We were having a family reunion and needed a group site. We were having a hard time finding an open group site and ended up finding this one so we went with it. It's ok, not bad but not great. It is right off the road and right next to the Colorado River. The group sites are set up weird. We stayed at group site #2. We weren't really sure how to park our trailers so that they wouldn't be in the road. Group site #1 is even worse. I have no idea where you would park a few trailers at this one. There is no easy way down to the river and I was concerned about the kids falling in the river. The campground is next to a off road trail so during the day the road was pretty busy with Jeeps and side by sides. So not very relaxing. During the night you could hear passing cars while sitting around the fire. We couldn't really hear them once in the trailer. There was no campground host. So people using the trails would park their cars and trailers in the campground which doesn't leave a lot of room on the road. The restroom is a vault and it is actually in a structure. Which if you know the campgrounds in the area a lot of them are just fenced in with no roof. So that is a plus. There is a pavilion covering the picnic tables but there isn't a lot of space between the parking and the river. It's about a 45 min drive one way into Moab. Over all we had a place to stay and we had a good time but I do not plan on...
Read moreok primitive site by the river. flat ground, good tables, pit toilets, uncrowded. we camped there and SUPed the river down to Hittle Bottom. no water spigots but we were prepared and had brought water in. A couple of things we ran into that may be good for others to be aware of 1)Be prepared for wind. a wind storm came up just as we were getting off the river. By the time we got back to camp our tents were pretty stressed by the wind. We put the poles down and covered our tents with our rainflys and some heavy totes to hold it all down (55 mph gusts). 2 of 3 tents come out ok. 1 tent had a bent pole. Next time I would undo our poles and make sure it was well staked before leaving. in 2 hours the storm was gone. cleaned out as much dust as we could and stayed for a lovely evening. 2) we found a couple black widows lurking on the picnic table and in the corners of the restrooms. We took care of the ones we saw and didn't see anymore the rest of the trip but I'm sure there are more. Check the tables before you...
Read moreLandscape here is great! It definitely felt like a unique place in Utah. Being next to the Colorado River was also very cool. It was easy enough to find places for tents. It was dark enough to do some star gazing. The downside is that it's very close to popular road that we were often through out the night awaken by headlights and loud car engines. Also I am not sure were the rules were posted but it was not easy enough to find and we were approached by strangers trying to take our spot saying that they said they had rights to it even though we paid for it?! They eventually left us alone. NO...
