The roads in are good for any rig. Nearby Overton has supplies. Since I don't drive an RV, I'm not sure where in Overton to fill and dump, but for folks with mobile containers there's water at the park and for composters there is a vault toilet in the Overton Wildlife Mgmt area (beyond the camping and parking areas, across the bridge...you have to look for it).
The area is crowded. I camped across the wash from Poverty Flats off of Sand Mine road. That area was crowded, and Poverty Flats, which I could see across the wash, was positively jam-packed. The view is great, and there are some interesting things to see: for instance, the trailhead to the ruins of St Thomas is about 4 miles hiking/biking or 6.5 miles by good road (these distances are from Sand Mine...further from Poverty Flats).
It's a typical snowbird-heavy dispersed camping area with acceptable roads, plenty of OHVs and room for lots of rigs. If that's what you're looking for,...
Read moreGreat free camping area. We camped on the north side of the road, right along the canyon edge to some awesome badlands below. Very spacious (at least this time of the year).
There is no staff to check in with. Just find a spot and post up. I recommend disconnecting from your RV and cruising the sites first. Some dips and grades south if the road might make those areas impassable for larger rigs.
Spectacular views, and it’s about a 10 minute drive to the southern entrance of Valley of Fire State Park, UT, which was also spectacular!
If you have a high clearance vehicle (Jeep) we recommend the Bitterwater Back Country Trail. Parts of it are in washes, so don’t attempt during wet weather. Parts of it involve minor rock-climbing, but not too bad. Our Jeep JK 4dr with a 2 1/2" lift and 33" tires had no problem, but we took it slow and it took us about 8 hours to travel the...
Read moreAs a full timer in an RV, I have noticed that through my travels in the last year,, finding a location to park for a few days is a challenge in its own. The flats are a good distance from either Mesquite or Vegas, but I do enjoy my time while out in the desert. There are views in all directions that are pleasant gaze upon, and the night sky is just that much better.. All times I have stayed, it seemed to be spread out where nobody is too close or to far.. If coming in from the north,, nice little townships that have most of the items needed while passing through, and the folks seem friendly as well. Be some what prepared for gusty winds that show up in...
