Update: So I realize now why dog leash laws are so relaxed here. I was outside my camper across from the public restroom and the camp host at site 163 was talking to a friend of his that I've seen here before because I recognize the dog. Well the dog was not on a leash and when it seen me it started to come over to us but the owner was able to call it back and then the camp host proceeded to take it to his fenced in area. Later that night I'm minding my business walking the dog when the camphost at 163 approached me saying it wasnt his dog and he wanted me to know this. I'm guessing he knows about my previous inccident so he decided to rudely put me on the spot to avoid accountability. Obviously that friend of his comes here a lot and should have been following the leash laws from the get go especially as he stands right next to the camp host. It only became an issue when he noticed me standing there after my previous incidents. Camp hosts should lead by example and that means making sure their guests also follow the rules not just part time when its convenient for them. Whats it going to take a dog being attacked to address this standard.
I really like this campground. I have 2 dogs one that is very old and sick and dying of kidney failure so being able to camp this summer with her and letting her enjoy herself has been my #1 goal. What I dont understand is irresponsible dog owners who do not leash their dogs. I have had 3 instances where dogs came running at us. ODNR is very responsive in taking care of the issue and I have no problem calling them. I wish there was a way to Crack down on bad dog owners that make this adventure less than what it should be because they feel they are above the laws. I dont trust any dog or owner especially when it comes to my fur babies. We have found that walking the nature trails instead of the campground is much safer and...
Read moreOne of the best campgrounds we've stayed at in Ohio!! Numerous sites are heavily wooded with a little alcove containing your fire ring and picnic table so it's secluded and private! Most sites you couldn't see neighbors. Best campground playground I've ever seen with a merry go round, zipline, climbing wall, slides, etc. Had a sports area with gaga pits, basketball courts, soccer nets, etc. Also had a FREE mini golf course, holes 1-9 are really fun and challenging. We ran out of time to play 10-18 but they were boring looking anyways. Very wooded dog park my dog enjoyed. Laundromat available in shower house #1 & 4. They had a storybook trail my 4 year old greatly enjoyed. Really neat looking disc golf course (we didn't try)! My ONLY complaint was the shower. The shower head nozzle was fixed so you couldn't aim it anywhere. The spray pattern was a big circle with zero water in the middle and the only bench was located OUTSIDE of your shower curtain in the main hallway for all to see. Like the kind they had when I was a kid 25 years ago. Most campground showers have been updated with benches inside your curtain area before your shower area and have movable nozzles. Could definitely use some updating! But at least the water was hot, shower house was heated, and...
Read moreFirst time at Deer creek. My first impression at check in was WOW. We usually camp at Cowan Lake, and I've been very impressed with this campground. The employee at check in was so helpful and she pointed out great places to hike and fish around the lake. We didn't have much planned as far as exploring the area, just some R&R, but now we're heading out to see the area! She highly recommended we check out the restaurant at the Lodge for lunch and I think we will! We stayed at site #108. Our campsite is very spacious, but it does have a rather steep hill you have to navigate to get to the picnic table and fire pit. I found taking the outer edge behind the electric hookup is the easiest route to the lower portion of the site. It was very unassuming when we pulled up. But sitting out here this morning, I feel like I am in a cabin in the foothills of a mountain. It feels private and serene. We can't wait to see what the state park has to offer, and to...
