San Juan Campground — Hotel in Monroe

Sites are located right next to the river and you can hear the soothing sounds and easily walk down to the water to soak your tired feet after hiking one of the nearby trails. There is a road right next to the campsites which can be busy when folks are driving up to get to the trailheads for hikes. The campground is clean and well maintained by the campground host.

We stayed at site #1 which offers more privacy than most of the other sites. All sites are FCFS. The pay station and camp host are located 2 miles away at Troublesome Creek campground. The camp host was very friendly and helpful. However he wouldn't honor our Access Pass 50% discount. The sites are only $27/night so it wasn't a big deal. The host was out of firewood for sale when we were there but we were able to purchase firewood 12 miles away near Index.

We hiked the Frog Mountain trail nearby and recommend that hike if you don't mind some elevation gains. There are other trails nearby as well but you will need a vehicle with good ground clearance to get tot the trailheads.

We enjoyed our stay over a long weekend and recommend this campground if you want a nice relaxing riverside basecamp for some...

About to drive here with the family! coming from tacoma wa! It's a 2 hr. drive but I believe itll be worth it.

For anyone else that maybe like me... I'm a rock hounder so anyone who likes rockin and wants to know about this spot and what it has to offer us and our rock needs... Nice quiet campground, cost for 1 spot is up to $27 a night as of 6/14/25. Several nice places to put a tent within 20 feet of the river and not a lot of traffic. As others have said there's no cell signal for...
