Not the lazy paddle I was looking for. This river reminds me of the bogue chitto in how shallow it is for most of the run within the park. You can stand in most of the river and not be waist deep. That makes for some swift currents and difficult paddling. In most cases when it was too shallow and/or the current was too strong you can just walk it. I almost made it from the beach to the bridge, but the *rapids wore me out and then the rain the thunder started. I gave up and floated back down with the rest of the families. This is definitely more of a floating than paddling situation. The park itself is large with rv and primitive camping sites. There are playgrounds and covered seating, plus a bathroom with showers and laundry. They have tube rentals, you can't use your own. Unlike the chitto, this river is clear of large trees or obstructions other than the limestone croppings. It was $5 for the day use, and the staff was pleasant.

First time visit here with some friends. We had a really good time. Not many people were there when we arrived. So it was a nice slow, relaxing, tube trip and very quiet. So we really enjoyed that. The water was cold and that made it nice on a hot August day in lower Alabama. The entire park area was really clean and I could see this being a nice place to camp in the fall when the tempatures have come down to below 115 to something better suited for camping. Like say something around 55 degrees. No alcohol allowed signs near the water area and that is good to see. All in all it was a good time. The young man driving the bus that dropped us at the tube entry area was courteous and very respectful. He and I chatted till drop off. That's always good when it seems they enjoy their job and helps guests have a better experience. So thank you to him. I'm sure we will visit again.

This was sad because the campground is very nice and the restrooms and shower facility more than adequate. After arriving (I was tent camping), I paid and was given directions to a camp site, which I thought I followed. I put up my tent and laid out my gear about 3 PM. I then drove around what appeared to be the entire camp ground, came back to my site, read for a while, took a nap, went over and showered and changed, and then read some more. About 7:30 that evening, a rep from the camp ground came by and said I was in the wrong spot and would have to move. I told them I was surrounded by 14 empty sites, it was almost dark, and it was ridiculous to have to move when camp ground staff members had been coming by and saying nothing for over four hours. They refused to allow me to stay, claiming the site was reserved for the NEXT day (I was travelling and would have been gone before 8 AM). Anyway, they were adamant, so I requested my money back and said I would leave. They complied. When I went up to the office to get my refund, they were all standing around laughing about the incident. I told them that they all should have been ashamed about how they handled such a simple situation. They thought that was pretty funny. If the campground had been crowded, I would have completely understood. When it was standing as empty as it was, their solution was a travesty. The worst thing to me, I had already called my wife and told her this would be a great place to bring the RV for a month. It really should have been a nice...

The place is very nice with lots of open space. The speed limit is 15 MPH due to its narrow and winding road that leads to the camp sites. Which brings me to mention that if you get there after hours ad haven't been there it will be very hard to find the tent site, specially because nobody was camping there at the time we were looking for the site. One other person and I were driving up and down looking for our sites. The letter one gets did not have instructions on how to get to the sites. Thank goodness for an RV camper that drove to guide us to it. These sites with electricity have street lights and are brilliantly shining all night and go off with the sunrise 🤔. Also, if you haven't been there, be prepared with a block out tent or take extra tarps to put over your tent to block out the light. I was miserable during the night as I had trouble sleeping due to how bright it was. The person that arrived the same day I did ended up leaving a day earlier, but I couldn't because I was there for an event. I will post a picture of how bright the light is, and you can see for yourself. There is a park for the kids, and they can freely play and enjoy the outdoors. I saw a few riding their bikes, too. The bathrooms are very spacious and clean. The only one thing I noticed was that the curtain had some mold spots at the bottom. The RV area is in an area surrounded by lots of pine trees, and there are no street light poles brilliantly shining...
