This a new hotel and there were many good things going for it, but there are things to work out.
At check in, the manager was very kind and personable. It is clear that she very much wants the hotel to do well and is caring. The lady working at the front desk was kind, but seemed a bit unsure of herself with what she was doing.
The rooms themselves are nice. The beds are very high off the ground. The hotel does offer step stools for the beds, but I thought it was a bit strange how high they were off the bed. The TVs have Dish network so local channels are not provided which I thought was kind of strange. They do have pizzas at the hotel you can purchase, and a vending machine, but is close to other restaurants in Monticello. The breakfast was nice and it is a nice, open area to enjoy the breakfast. When I was there, the breakfast was sausage patties, eggs, pastries (including bagels, biscuits and and toast), cereal, fruit, make your own waffles, yogurt, juice and coffee. The young man who was working the front desk and the breakfast area was very kind.
My biggest complaint was the problem that I had with the TV when I came home after a meeting. I picked up dinner and was wanting to go back to my room at eat my dinner while watching some TV then head to bed. The TV in my room was not working. I went to the front desk and asked and she suggested one thing to help. I went back to my room, it still didn't work. Then she suggested I unplug the TV for 10 seconds then plug it in and try again. That didn't work. I headed back to the front desk. Then I asked if she would just go and try something as I was becoming frustrated. She said she couldn't go into a room. I then said that they need to either fix the tv, refund my stay and I'll go somewhere else, or switch my room. At that point, she went to my room and tried to fix the TV. She spent nearly 5 minutes and then said that it didn't work. She then spent the next few minutes on the computer at the front desk trying to switch my room. I got another room, directly across the hallway, and the TV in that room didn't work either. I went back to the front desk and told her that this is the last try, either put me in a room where the TV works, or refund my money. She then went into another rom and turned on the TV, saw that the welcome channel worked then came back to the desk and switched me to that room. I got to the room but then saw that none of the channels worked on the TV. I went back to the desk AGAIN. Finally then she went from room to room until she found one that worked. On the forth room, she found a TV that worked, and switched me into it. This whole process took over 30 minutes. I was beyond frustrated as I was sitting with my dinner the entire time. Also, the way that I was spoken to, as if I was being unreasonable for wanting to have a working TV was rather disappointing. Then, after receiving the key, the lady at the desk was spoke down to me remind me "how to use the remote" for the TV. I really wanted to say to her that it is not my fault that SIX rooms (three I tried and three she tried had TVs that weren't working), but I didn't. My heard tells me that she genuinely did not mean to be rude or was not rude to me intentionally, but possible there was a lack of training in how to deal with guest problems and concerns. I would recommend some more training in how to word responses from staff to guest complaints.
Honestly, this experience with waiting over 30 minutes to get a room with a TV that works and the way it was handled by the employee at the desk, makes me hesitant to choose to stay here again.
The hotel is nice, clean and worth the price...as long as the TV in...
Read moreThe town was interesting and had some nice restaturants. The hotel was good for the most part. The staff was friendly. The continental breakfast had all the foods you'd expect from a budget hotel. We had 2 queen beds. Each had four pillows.
I'm not a clean freak but I've seen too many episodes of Hotel Impossible so I always inspect my room probably more than necessary. No bed bugs. (Relief!) Rubbing the tops of the door frames and pictures produced dust that fell down. The hotel supplied pump body wash was empty. There was a bit of mold in the caulking at the top of the shower enclosure and the bathtub was stained. I don't know if it was permanent or whether some scrubbing would clean it. The worst parts were the beds had white linens. A sheet on top of a comforter on top of another sheet. There was a spot on the top sheet that I think was blood. The top of the ice bucket was dirty and gross so we didn't use it.
I don't want to be too harsh but the good was average and I did find some short tcommmings when I...
Read moreMy friend and I stayed for 2 nights over Labor Day weekend. On the 3 morning we extended our stay by purchasing another day. We left around 1:00 for an appointment and returned a couple hours later. Although we had left our Do Not Disturb sign on our door, when we returned we found our room had been cleaned and our belongings removed as if we had checked out and forgotten them there. When the front desk staff were asked about this, some of our items were found in the lost and found, but our food and drink items from the refrigerator were not located. When we asked for some sort of compensation for the cost of the items, they insisted they didn't exist. After we repurchased more food and drink items, the staff called our room and told us that the items had been found in the laundry room. They were not willing to give us some sort of compensation by taking some of the cost off of our room. Until this incident, I was completely satisfied with my stay at the hotel. I am not sure if I would be willing to stay...
