I have given this area four separate chances. Each time has been a huge disappointment. But yesterday was the worst. We were having my son's graduation party at the EAST group area. Website describes the area and all of the amenities you get while there. And it is by reservation only. Supposedly. We had people pulling up and parking in our lot in order to use the bathroom before leaving. I asked one man to leave that had parked in our area, and he called me a Karen and told me to shut up and leave. I took a picture of his license plate but never reported him. There is also a group area for campers down a ways, and they came in droves to use our bathroom. Some of the boys from the group site were being very loud and obnoxious at the restrooms, horsing around, and we asked them to keep it down. They gestured that I was crazy, and I said, "Okay, I wasn't being rude but now you are so you can go ahead and move on." These brats must've went back and told their parents that we told them they couldn't use the bathroom bc much later their parents came and confronted us. I explained the situation. A little while after that, two park workers showed up. One of the men was quiet and respectful. The other was very rude, accusing, and condescending. He would interrupt me, told me to calm down even as I calmly explained the situation, asked me if the boys we had told to move on had been "American" tho he wasn't trying to be racist? (I'm still not sure what that was about...did he think we ran off kids because of their ethnicity? Or does he think other ethnicities aren't American? Btw, the kids were white) He later denied he told me to calm down, attempting to gas light, but even my husband heard him say it to me! They insisted we had to allow others to use the bathroom and that's just the way it "has to be". We paid a lot to reserve the area so we could have it to ourselves. And the website does NOT specify that it is a shared bathroom in the description. What if these other guests cause damage? Would I be responsible? And why don't they specify that on their website? So ultimately, you're paying a lot of money for a shelter and some overgrown lawn to pitch your tent in...Then the obnoxious worker proceeded to make up an excuse to investigate our area, saying that a couple of the shelters posts had holes in them and they needed replaced, they just wanted to check them out. THEN said, someone hung lanterns on them 6 or 7 years ago and burned holes into some of the posts. I wonder why the poles had needed replaced for over 6 years and they just then needed to look at them? Then searched our area while they faked looking at the posts. They treated me like a criminal in front my guests, crashed our party, and embarrassed me in front of my family and friends and children. The quiet, nicer worker went back and sat in the truck after a few minutes. The obnoxious one continued to patronize us for ten minutes more or so. Worst experience ever! I paid too much money to be harassed, name called, and persecuted. Never again! We didn't even go back for the second night we had...
Read moreMy family has visited Cave Run every summer since 1995 and we have always stayed at Twin Knobs campgrounds. The campsites have a good amount of shade and privacy. They’re clean and well-kept. They have electric hookups or primitive sites. They also have singles and doubles, as well as a group site you can rent for an extra large group... we had extended family in and got to rent it out one year which was really cool. Lots of opportunities for bike riding and hiking. They’ve got trails that are kept up well and fun for a day off the water. A few years back, we hiked the Twin Knobs Trail that is about 2.5 miles, slightly challenging due to the steady uphill grade. It spirals around a mountain and when you get to the tip top, there’s a view of the lake, albeit limited due to trees. It was nice tho. ||The bathhouses are well-kept and availability is good. There’s ice for sale at the guard shack at the entrance. They’re strict on how you park your vehicles on your site; so beware of that. Also dogs are allowed on leashes anywhere in the campgrounds/lake. You can reserve sites in advance (maybe 6 months out?) on their website. ||We’ve always left our pontoon parked in the little alcoves around the shoreline of the lake and never had any issue with theft or vandalism while leaving the boat there or while we’ve been gone from our site during the day. ||The lake is close by and is a blast... we’ve had fun bringing our own tubes, skis, waveboards, & jet skis over the years... the lake is deep and clear enough that you don’t have to worry about debris sticking up out of the water like some lakes I know. ||There’s a beach, which is great for playing in the water, but I’m not a fan of the sandy parts... i didn’t go over to the beach last year, but the year before, I went to lay out and it was pretty sad. I was stuck in this section with tree shrapnel and not much sand to speak of. But if your goal is to entertain kids, it can do that. And there’s some nice stations to wash the sand off of you near the bathhouses plus a store to get cold drinks and ice cream. There’s also a store at the marina where you can also purchase souvenirs, shirts, gas for your boat, or rent boats if necessary. ||We love this for a fun family trip every year and plan to keep coming...
