||||This place which is referred to as a resort (what a joke) is probably the worst place I have ever stayed at in my life of traveling. They rent motel rooms by the night, or Rvs by the month. They also have cabins. Let me start with the pricing. Cheapest cabin is $695.00 for a converted shed. Yeah you read right, shed. Then there are 3 others, all built in the early 1950's. They range from $700.00 to $850.00 depending on which gem you rent. All have original electrical boxes, with the old type fuses. All are made of cinder block, except the shed. Have fun blowing fuses if you run to many electrical devices, as all the outlets are hooked to one breaker. Now the Rvs. They are old, crammed in and run from $695.00 to $950.00, yes you read that right, $950.00 per month. Now we get to the best part. The deposits. They are $200.00 and don't expect them when you check out. They always have an excuse why they can't check your rental for damage while you are there. Another joke. I am a disabled veteran, and stayed here for a month. I am on a fixed income, so $200.00 to me is a lot. When they wouldn't give me my deposit, I asked when would I get it. Answer: I can't give you a definite date. But all were sitting around doing nothing. Manager is real friendly until it comes to getting your deposit back. Then her whole attitude changes to you. When I left, I being former Navy, left the rental in better shape then I received it so there was no reason to hold my deposit. After one week of no deposit return, I enlisted the help of an attorney who works with veterans for free. He wrote her a letter, never received an answer, call or letter back from the "Resort". To make this part short, it took 7 weeks for me to receive my deposit back. So the question is, why did it take 7 weeks to give me back my deposit? Now lets talk about the water moccasin infested lake. If you have children, you had better keep them close, cause the shore line of the lake is crawling with them. They don't own any lake rights, as from about 25ft in to the lake is owned by the state so you have to purchase a fishing license. They have a public boat launch, cause they don't own any shore line and traffic is in an out through the camp area, all day long. Not very quiet to say the least. And if you are a family with children, forget it. There is nothing for children there at all. No pool, or any kind of things that a kid would do. And you definitely can't swim in the lake. I wouldn't recommend this place to my...
Read moreHad my first experience with this establishment this past weekend. Let me first off say that this place sits on a beautiful lake as Harris Brake has always been one of the premier fishing lakes in Central Arkansas and is very scenic. However, this place looked very ruined down and out of date. Additionally, there is absolutely zero reason why this place should be allowed to sell live bait. I am not sure if the lady inside was an owner or just employed there, but she was not very knowledgeable with the entire business module. Selling Minnows, (if you want to call them that), at $2.95 per dozen is a crime. Any bait store near Conway, etc sells them per LB and roughly $14-$15 for that LB. That is roughly 11-13 dozen minnows in that bag. I had to purchase 10 dozen minnows (because that's basically all you had in the Vat) at $2.95 per dozen spending $32 after tax. Not only the price of the purchase was absurd, but the lady said she wasn't able to count how many went in and not able to weigh per LB (Mind you there was a scale sitting on the counter in the back room where the Vats are). To Top it off once the minnows were in the bag she placed a rubber band over the bag without putting Oxygen in the bag for the minnows to keep them alive. When I inquired she advised that most people just take them outside real quick and put them in a bucket of their own and they do not have an oxygen tank there to put in the bag full of minnows. We were headed to Lake Nimrod to fish and had to buy bait at this establishment because the one closest to Nimrod was closed due to the owner on vacation. Luckily, we have a nice minnow chest with oxygen to keep the minnows alive or else we would've been SOL. Lastly, when presenting my method of payment (Because I was extremely ready to get out of there) she tried to act as if they didn't accept that method. I literally pointed to the front of the register to show her that it said right there they did so after speaking to her for a solid minute she allowed me to run my card and of course it went through without issue. We lost about $2.00 worth of minnows before we could even get them in bucket outside to keep them alive! We fish a lot of Central AR lakes very frequently and that includes Harris Brake, but never again will we stop at this establishment for anything...
Read moreWe stayed at Harris Brake Lake for 10 weeks while my hubby was working in the area. When we pulled our 5th wheel in we knew we had found the right place, as everyone was so friendly and willing to help us set up. The monthly rate was $350.00, including electricity, very reasonable! The laundry room was clean and $2.00 a load is reasonable. The dryers dried your clothes in one load! Harris Brake is dog friendly and our 2 labs had a blast. Just be aware that this is a fishing lake that has lots of hooks and tackle in it. We did not let our dogs swim in it after one got hooked. There is a swimming hole close by if you have swimming dogs. The management went above and beyond to accommodate us. The maintenance staff was on top of it and if I had any issues they were addressed immediately. Every Friday night they have a BBQ or potluck on the deck overlooking the lake for the guests. A nice complimentary extra and a chance to meet your neighbors. Tuesday night is Bingo night, another great activity. The grounds have a huge open area with large shade trees if you want to partake in outdoor games and activities. The fishing is awesome and those Southern folk sure know how to fry up catfish and hush puppies! (The best I've ever had!) We made many friends here and it was bittersweet to leave. The staff and guests are some of the best we have had the pleasure to meet in our working travels. The cardinals are beautiful, the fireflies magical, and the huge snapping turtles magnificent. If you are looking for down home Southern hospitality this is the place for you. If you enjoy fishing and like to catch a lot, then you must stay here. We camped at Harris Brake Lakeside Resort in a Fifth Wheel.||||Perryville is a dry county. There is a liquor store across the county line and in Morrilton. Mustang Sallys in Perryville is a great little sandwich shop. Right across the street from the middle of the levy is a road that will take you through a nice wildlife area into Perryville. it is about a 4 mile round trip walk from the campground. Ya Yas in Little Rock has a wonderful Sunday brunch. The Buffalo River is a great float river. They rent canoes and have...
