General Impression: Small, quaint campground with plenty of green room but limited access for big rigs. Cost $47.50 Value: 4 This State Park packs a lot of value for the nightly rate.
Campground: Some of the campsites are tight even for microvan parking. There are a few that accommodate large rigs; however, the loop can be a little tricky to maneuver through when the campground is full due to limited overflow parking. The campground is one loop situated on a hill with trails into the park area and 2 picnic pavilions with bathhouses inside the loop. Because of the layout, some of the campsites naturally have more room than others. Campsite # 34 Campsites asphalt pads with grass surrounding them. All sites are back in. Most campsites needed some leveling blocks but all had full hookups 50 & 30 #thifty. Each site has a picnic table, a grill, and a fire ring. No propane fill, but Tractor Supply is about 4.5 miles away. They have a dump station located near the ranger station/camp store with $5 fee for non-campers. Wifi: yes Campground: 18 Mbps down / 3.9 Mbps up Starlink: 86 Mbps down/ 3.75 Mbps up Verizon: 19.7 Mbps down/ 0.8 Mbps up
Noise Level: This campground is surrounded by park and backed up to the Cherokee Reservoir so it is very quiet and has little light pollution as well. Amenities: 9 individual bathrooms with large showers and air conditioners in each room that automatically turns on as you enter to regulate the temperature. Bathrooms are cleaned daily and it shows! They look and smell so clean! Dumpster easily located at the front of the park entrance. Laundry: 2 washer and dryers – one set at each bathhouse and $2.00 to wash or dry. Unfortunately the large pool is permanently closed. No playground in the campground but there is a large playground in the state park. Other facilities: walking and horse-riding trails, basketball, volleyball, tennis, frisbee golf course, and a boat access to the Cherokee Reservoir. Dog friendly: No off-leash area or pickup stations, but plenty of trails and green area to walk the pups and trash cans for poop bag disposal at the pavilions. Camp store: A small store with a few essentials available during afternoon/early evening hours. Walmart is only 3.5 miles away. Camp staff interactions: Didn’t really have much interactions with camp staff. Because we made our reservations online and paid ahead we were able to go directly to our campsite and set up. But we saw staff cleaning and mowing around the area and they seemed pleasant and...
Read moreBeautiful area. Unfortunately, we only stayed one night. Sites are very decent, all sizes but only a few are full hook-up; water, elec AND sewer. Only about 50 sites total, 9 I think w/sewer.
Office employees & the parks Ranger were sorta standoffish upon our arrival. Not really any type of greeting. Ranger didnt speak at all. Also, they didn't ask the usual questions. "What size our RV was, how many vehicles, if we needed full hook-up, etc..." They just weren't welcoming or informative per what we're used to. I had to ask for pretty much everything. Maybe they'd had one of those days, who knows! Or, maybe they thought I knew already.... ¯(ツ)/¯
Didnt realize until after we were assigned our site that they even had sites w/sewer hook-up. We travel full-time for work, just over 5 yrs now, and while this worked out for a single night, normally it would not; spouses' jobs are sometimes lengthy/long term. More & more State Parks tho are adding or increasing full hook-ups which is awesome but most still only allow about 10 days max for a stay. Some have special circumstances, just have to inquire.
Still, Park is about 20min off hwy which is convenient. A real gem with hiking trails of all types, and spacious grounds that look to be extremely well-kept. We'll visit again. Retirement is just around...
Read moreI made this my basecamp when I did some motorcycling riding in the smoky mountains.
This is a nice full service campground.
I was tent camping and if you are tent camping I would suggest getting the site that has the tent pad back in the woods from the main site, This site has a tent pad next to the parking pad and then a second tent pad a little short hike within the woods
The only reason I suggest this is that you have plenty of shade versus the other sites.
Nice shower and laundry rooms.
This place is more of a rv campground than a tent campground but is is a very...
