The Tullymore Golf Resort in Stanwood Michigan sits nestled amongst 800 acres of pristine Michigan woods, meadows and wetlands, the perfect venue for a golf resort in The Great Lakes State.
The Tullymore layout is unique in that there are five par-3 holes and five par-5 holes. And with five sets of tees (six on the scorecard thanks to the Combo tees), Tullymore offers a suitable yardage for all level of players. The course plays anywhere from 4,668 - 7,250 yards, with slopes that range from 120 – 150.
In creating the golf course, it’s almost like Engh took a painting and recreated it on natural surfaces. The white sand bunkers glisten against the lush green fairways and greens and every inch of the property is meticulously maintained, from the bunkers to the water hazards. Engh has done a fantastic job positioning greens in unconventional ways, many of them angled away from the approaching fairway. What that means is smaller landing areas that require pinpoint accuracy on approach. Their subtle undulations will require good green reading skills as well.
Tullymore is truly worthy of any serious golfer’s bucket list. Conditions are spectacular, staff is friendly and knowledgeable and, if you’re part of a stay and play package, the accommodations won’t disappoint.
Tullymore is as refreshing to look at as it is fun to play. It doesn’t have the elevation changes of some Northern Michigan courses, but Tullymore will rival any course in this part of the state for aesthetic value. The white sand bunkers often lay several feet below the fairway or green complex and many of them are surrounded with grass mounds making them seem even deeper. The sand is soft and fluffy and easy to play from.
If your score doesn’t live up to your expectations, relax and look around, you can’t help but enjoy the natural beauty and serenity of this property.
Tullymore also has some impressive practice facilities, including a driving range that can accommodate 22 golfers at a time as well as separate areas for chipping and putting practice. Take advantage of this as, a good short game will go a long way to scoring well here.
In addition to fantastic golf, Tullymore has some impressive accommodations that are part of their stay and play packages. Lodging options range from hotel-style rooms at the Hideaway, perfect for a couple’s getaway, to condominiums the Residence Club – 3- and 4-bedroom condos and custom cottages that can sleep up to ten people. Need something bigger? The Lodge at Tullymore has 10 bedrooms and can sleep up to 24 guests. All have high end amenities such as flat screen TVs in the living area and each bedroom as well as large outdoor patios.
All stay and play packages include a buffet breakfast in the Taproom at Tullymore. The Taproom also serves lunch and dinner and Tullymore is famous for throwing some great events that are open to the public. On our visit, they were hosting a Craft Beer Festival, with craft brew from several local – and one distant – breweries as well as a southern barbecue buffet, with pulled pork, barbecued chicken and all the fixings.
For golfers who develop an appetite while playing, there’s Tully's Halfway House, conveniently located at the turn. Grab a bite of lunch or a few snacks and your favorite beverages as you head to...

Lodging: 3 Stars. We stayed at the Hideaway, a motel layout with nice rooms. Comfy beds, with full showers vs econo tubs which was a nice touch. I think this is the most basic lodging available (no 'friges nor microwaves in the rooms), but it worked out well as our group stayed on the backside, which had a stretch of lawn and room to enjoy tailgating-like evening activities. We brought our own grills and provisions. The Hideaway is at Tullymore but we had to check in 10 minutes away at St. Ives Inn--'makes no sense.
Courses: 4 stars. Both Tully and St. Ives were in very good condition, great fairways, fair rough, fluffy sand, and nice, but slower than expected greens. Both had nice ranges nice and close to the clubhouses and 1st tees. We saw the bev cart often and the selection was solid. Tully had GPS carts-- good for yardage, bad when you're locked out even though you're still "in bounds". Note that the courses are 5-6 miles from each other with 1/2 the trip through a winding neighborhood.
Food: 2 stars. Service: 3 stars. To go wraps at Tully's at the turn were very good with friendly service. Another time, we sat on the patio for lunch almost 1.5 hours before one of our rounds and barely made it to our tee time. We ordered salads and sandwiches from a nice server. We were the only table-- our salads and sandwiches took 35-40 minutes. My chicken southwest salad was served with over cooked, skin on chicken breast pieces with bonus gristle. It was returned for a decent sandwich. The 1/2 way house at St. Ives had food fit for an 16 year old -- 'dogs, brats, and maybe burgers too, along with chips. Best to bring your own breakfast because there's none to be found at either course. Most annoying was no coffee to found, so most of us hit the local gas station-- how hard is it to have coffee service available?
The courses are the draw, but the mixed hospitality and lack of modern food and beverage are the reasons I won't be back for any stay and plays. Can do much better a few hours Northeast...
Read moreI don't get into posting negative things ever, but this just has to be said...I met up with my dad, brother, and a friend to go golfing in late October. I was about 1/2 of a step into the pro shop and Gary (let's call him Mr. Personality) told me right away that I couldn't golf because I was wearing jeans. So, I told him that I was coming from and hour and a half away and it would have been nice to know about any dress code when I booked the tee time. He told me that I booked the tee time with him and that he told me about no jeans and collared shirts. I told him that he in fact did not. He told me he did and that was just that and that I was welcome to purchase some $80-$100 shorts or pants. Now if this was my fault, then sure, I guess I'm purchasing some pants, but I can promise with every ounce my being, he did not tell my about this dress code. I mean, all four of us were coming from an hour and a half away. That's something I would remember before making the trip. So Mr. Personality then told me that there were a couple other 4-somes golfing that had to buy pants because they too wore jeans. So I of course just had to ask if maybe, just maybe he forgot to mention to them about the dress code and he said he told them too. And get this...Mr. Personality even told us that he had to turn away another 4-some FROM CHICAGO that were wearing jeans. Chicago!! That's a hike!! And to turn around and not go golfing. WOW!! So just for the heck of it, my brother mentioned that we wear jeans every time we go to Arcadia Bluffs (a super nice course if you haven't heard of it), and this is exactly what Mr. Personality said...."I FIND THAT HARD TO BELIEVE". So, he, the face of Tullymore Golf Resort just called us liars for the second time. This was sooooo unprofessional. After being told we were liars for the second time, we just left. Disappointed is an understatement. It's a long way to travel for the way we were treated. We literally all had to all change our schedules to make this happen....
