We reserved a room on July 31 to stay at the Swiss Holiday Lodge on August 21. We went to see the eclipse in Madras, Oregon, and wanted to have a room halfway back home. We have two kids in elementary school.
On the way back from Madras, there was very little cell phone reception even when there were multiple bars showing.
We made it to the Swiss Holiday Lodge at 10:30 p.m. The office closed at 10:00 p.m., but there was a doorbell for after hours check-in. We rang the doorbell several times, and no one answered. I called the number for the hotel, and no one answered. I knocked on the door to the owner's residence, and no one answered. I tried ringing the doorbell again. After about a half hour, we left without knowing why the owner wouldn't even answer the bell to let us know what had happened.
We tried to get another room, but everything at a reasonable price was sold out because so many other people were driving back from the eclipse. We had to drive all the way home and didn't get back until 4:00 a.m.
I called this morning, and the manager said that they tried to call us at the wrong number. It seems that they mixed up a 7 with a 1 in our number. However, given the spotty cell phone coverage, I don't know that they would have reached us regardless. Apparently at 10:00 p.m., they gave our room away.
What really makes this awful is that when we got there, a half hour after they gave our room away, they would not even open the door to tell us what they did. That half hour could have made the difference in us being able to get another room. Or at least, we would have know what happened.
I think that it is so rude to give away our room that we had reserved for almost 2 months and not even tell us when we got there. It wasn't even...
Read moreI am from the Midwest and have lived in Siskiyou County for 15 years. I have long recommended this little spot for my family and friends when they come to visit because the rooms are nice enough, it's got easy access to town and the interstate and really fair pricing. However, this particular instance has me rather disappointed and ensured I would never recommend it again. I had a close friend who came up for her husband's appointment, and she was looking for a spot to stay for the night. I told her Swiss Lodge was a good option! She booked. Her husband was in the hospital, and she wanted company. We agreed we'd come over and take a brief swim, then head to the park for a little picnic. We were not even in for more than 10 minutes when the front desk/owner came up and asked if we were all guests, my friend said no she was and we were with her said before she could finish her sentence he said "absolutely not, you must leave, you are not welcome to invite others" I was shocked. I've never heard of such a policy. It was myself, a 6 year old, my 17 year old and their hotel guest. He was short, unwelcoming, and quite frankly, I won't be recommending them any longer. Also, I noticed the pool was actually in a state of pretty bad disrepair, cracks, and gaps...
Read moreReally enjoyed our stay at the Swiss Holiday Lodge! Mr. Abel and his family are wonderful hosts. The motel has all the charms of a unique and cozy 1960’s local motel. And the fabulous bonus of being thoughtfully and beautifully renovated while retaining it’s charm. Our room had fresh paint, very nice bed and attractive furniture, and the bathroom had a top to bottom first class upgrade. New sink, smart mirror, and beautifully retiled shower. The parking lot has recently been repaved and is smooth and easy to drive on. There is a covered area to grill or have parties and gatherings. There is also a seating area outside with a fabulous view of Mount Shasta. The continental breakfast was very generous and well thought out. Oatmeal, yogurt, cereal, pastries, fruit, coffee and juice to name some of the items. Lovely flower gardens on the grounds and hammocks to relax in as well as a swimming pool that is available in the summer months that was covered up now. Not to mention the price for the room was very reasonable and so close to Mount Shasta and the town. So if you are planning a stay in the area I highly recommend the Swiss...
