We typically use Airbnb for our larger family gatherings. We do this annually and have always had wonderful experiences. We have RV camped at the White River State park for years and just love the area. For this trip, we used VRBO for the first time and were very disappointed with our experience. ||||First of all, be aware that you are charged $60 per person for each night if you have over 5 people. I missed that information in the small print when I booked. We had a family member that decided to come with us and I was charged an additional $263 as we ended up with 6 people. I have never had that happened before. This was a big expense that we were not expecting. ||||This is an old house, but is spacious. When we arrived, there were ants all over the porch and railing and we had to buy our own ant spray the first night. The host did bring ant trap after we informed her of situation. ||-Oven is old fashioned (doesn’t work right, burned everything we made) ||-Poorly Stocked Kitchen||*No mixing bowls, baking pans, colander, measuring cups of any kind (only had a single 1/2 cup). No pizza pan, hand mixer, kettle, griddle. There were a couple of cooking pots and pans. A couple small cookie sheets. We did mention our need for several of these items and the hosts did bring us some bowls and a casserole pan. ||-3 Lightbulbs were out our first night and we had to replace them, luckily we were able to find extra bulbs in a closet ||-Electric outlets in the kitchen + oven light didn’t work the 1st night. We had to hook up the coffee pot in the bathroom the first day (we were able to figure out how to reset the outlets later the next day and this fixed the problem)||- You are closely observed while you stay on the property and this was uncomfortable. ||||The hosts did respond to requests for items, but we felt that we were having to contact them frequently. ||||If we knew all these things going in we would not have paid the price to stay here as it was definitely not worth the money. ||||I would not...

Read moreThe area is beautiful, especially around the fall season with the leaves turning vivid colors. We have stayed at Newlands since the 80s. The fishing is always great. Most of the guides that float down the river stop in front of the river by this property because it offers some of the best fishing on the river. We always get a guide to take us out several times while staying here but also the fishing off the bank and dock also yields great results. |The Newland family has owned this awesome piece of property for several decades and has been an asset to trout fishing with their advocacy for the river (minimal flow from the dam). With our most recent trip a new family has purchased the property which will give the Newland family time to enjoy life at their own pace. Our most recent stay was most pleasant. The new owners seem to want to keep Newlands the way it is and only improve the property.| The views from the porch and the spacious cabin (#1) really was a great get away. We have stayed in this cabin before and every time we come there are updates. Each cabin has a grill and firepit with as much wood as you can burn in a night. It really makes it the enjoyable getaway for families to escape the day to day hectic life. |There are several other properties on the river. We have found that Newlands offers the best fishing (reason for coming!) and location of cabins is spread out. Even when at full capacity you still get to enjoy pace and quiet. Make sure you get your fishing permit at the local grocery store before coming because you may not be able to purchase one on site since everything has gone online with the AK game and parks. Looking forward to planning our next trip with...
