The best campgrounds/resort I've ever stayed at. First, this is one of the most beautiful spots in Arkansas with some of the best trout fishing. Second, this resort offers almost every experience you could want. You can rent a campground spot and pitch a tent, you can rent a small hunting style cabin which is basically one insulated room with five beds, a countertop, and a mini fridge. So, very similar to having a campground spot, but they've just built a nice "tent" there for you. In the winter season, they rent these cabins out for less than 50 dollars a night. If you like camping in the winter time, but don't want to set up a tent and a bunch of other supplies, that's the way to go. Or you can rent one of their super nice cabins, which I've never stayed in, but they look fantastic. Essentially like a house. I would probably recommend those for a family coming here for vacation that want to stay on the river.
They also rent boats, have a small store where you can buy some supplies like firewood... they tend to almost any need you have. And it's just one small family that owns this little piece of paradise. If you're staying a while and want to get away from this spot for some reason, the family has lived here for a long time, so they can tell you what other spots in the area you should check out depending on what you want to do.
On top of ALL of that, if you're floating all the way down the buffalo river, where it ends is this resort, you'll then have to paddle about a quarter to a half a mile upstream on the white river to get out and the nearest public boat ramp on this side of the river. If you don't want to paddle that far upstream (which I've done, and it's not for anybody that isn't in super great physical shape), they will let anybody take their canoe/kayak out on their property for a few dollars. And that is only about one hundred yards upstream.
This resort offers nearly everything, and I've never found a place in the USA that I enjoy staying at better than this resort. That says a lot for me, because they are only about 10 miles away from my house, and I'll still go stay there once...
Read moreFor anyone who does not know on what to do; or, where to go with their kids, White Buffalo Resort and the surrounding area is great. This is my 2nd time visiting this place with my 10 and 12 year old boys. Once in August 2012 and April 2013. The cabins are great and clean, the owners are accommodating, the river is right there. I'm from Calif., my kids are not used to seeing deers running around, box turtles walking across the street, armadillos and other critters walking around. My boy who is 10 loves to paint, so we would find a great location, such as a 150 year old barn or the side of the river bed and paint for 5 hours. My 12 year old boy started to love fishing, so we fish. The real reason why he likes fishing is because of the local boys at Dallas bait shop. I'll explain later. Last year he caught a 6 lbs cutthroat and this year a 5 lbs rainbow. Well, he caught a bunch of other fish, these were his biggest. We hired a local artist and fishing guide named Duane Hada. Google and You Tube him. He is great with kids. The local bait shop we visit is Dallas. There is always a bunch of local guys there ready to share their stories and where to fish. My boy and I know nothing about fishing, and these guys helped us along. Some of these guys are world champ bass fishers. They were as humble as possum pie. My boy was allowed to make his own fly for fishing. Duane took us cat fishing, my boys caught 4 cat fish, Duane fillet them, we took them to a local restaurant, the 178 Club, and they cooked the cat fish for us. We stayed 4 days and my kids were not bored, and the resort is so quiet, I am not used to sleeping in. My boys and I slept till 10am and was late for our fishing trip. No problem, Arkansas locals understand, they are not like us from Calif., they are laid back. Check it all out. I hope this was helpful. Note: Sorry Californians about stating we are not laid back. But this life style in Arkansas is really relaxing. As a matter of fact, i have come across a lot of californians who moved to...
Read moreFinally getting around to writing this review. I have been wanting to for along time. I guess life is crazy and busy for us even in the pandemic though. I stayed bere with my wife and 4 children in July 2020 for a safe quiet getaway and it was a phenomenal experience. The resort was a like a refuge from the pandemic for my family. The cabin was emaculant and spacious. The whole view from back porch of cabin and walk down to the river was gorgeous. At the riverbank, you can relax and listen to the water flow by and breath in the cool fresh air off of the white river. It's like natural air-conditioning in the peak heat of summer. We hung our hammock down there by the river in the cool refreshing breeze, and it was a frequent favorite of our family to sneak a few steps away to for a nap or to read a book. At the river edge, you hardly need to look up as you are overshadowed by these amazing granite like bluffs which are so beautiful to stare at. The staff were extremely helpful and kind to us. We booked some time with their guide Brandon who was outstanding at giving us a head start on how to successfully fish the white river. After that experience, we filled our limit of rainbow trout on every occasion that we went out in our kayaks and floated down to the resort from upstream on the white river. Even caught a few brown trout also but threw them back as they were too small. Kayaking and fishing the white river was such a relaxing and rewarding experience. The fish cleaning station is spacious and the staff gave us pointers on how to cook it. So we had several amazing fish fries with our catches during our stay. Love love love this place! Such oasis from the busy life. The great people there makes it even better. Matt and Kyla and their crew made the experience so special. Will be back for sure! Highly...
