I have traveled across the US and overseas for both business and pleasure for decades, and have never come into contact with bedbugs, nor been bitten by them, until our stay in Room 1 at this place!!! While the owner and his daughter were friendly, I am scarred by this experience. ||||The two-story hotel seems to be stuck in time, dirty, and appears to be a flop house of sorts housing sketch people in the old hotel while keeping a few rooms aside for overnight travelers. It was a horrible mistake to stay there. ||||The owner denied there were any bedbugs. There was no way we could have come into contact with them anywhere else, as our next stop was another hotel in another state the next night, and I had started to experience itchiness and breakouts on the 4-hour drive there on my face and hands! ||||I also followed up with the Virginia New River Health District to file a complaint and the contact said there was no evidence of any bedbugs. He also mentioned that he expected to get a copy of the invoice from Orkin, but almost four months afterwards, I still haven't heard back from him. He mentioned there was a new mattress cover on the bed in Room ! where we stayed, but whatever was on there the night we were there was old and gross. ||||In the end, I had all the evidence I needed with 20-25+ bites on my face, neck, hands, arms and lower legs!!!!! See photo evidence below. ||||Avoid this place at all costs. Drive to Blacksburg to stay at a...
Read moreAbsolutely pleasant atmosphere. The historic authenticity of the Inn is remarkable. It’s adorned with time appropriate decor and staff. The owner, Mr. Neely, is as mysterious and stoic as the beautiful Inn. Friendly and inviting, he takes each individual’s experience personal. Striving and stressing over comfort and class. You’ll immediately know him by his deep but kind voice and his contagious laugh. Full of hugs and stories, he is the perfect matri-dee for this classy but cozy atmosphere. One walk into the lobby, and you’re greeted immediately with a feeling of grandma’s favorite diner. The rooms are painstakingly personally cleaned by the kindest house keeper. If you need absolutely anything, she’s quick and with a smile. If you can’t find her, listen for the litter patter of her red speckled pup. It’s an older establishment, but somehow she keeps the marble, wood, and cloth smelling fresh and shiny. Her and Mr. Neely approach every request, situation, and need with sincerity and a smile. If you’re blessed enough to be there on a Thursday, you’ll be entertained with his house jam sessions. Super cool btw, and greeted by his huge mustache, and the smell of a home cooked dinner.

Read moreI recently stayed at the MacArthur Inn on the recommendation of friends. It was a personal business trip and this hotel is absolutely amazing in its history and the hospitality the hotel staff and hotel owner, Allen Neely, provided.
It's a historical hotel named after General Douglas MacArthur and there have been many other celebrities that have stayed there. I occupied the same room as John Wayne once did (cool).
The hotel is very quaint, clean, and the rooms are extremely comfortable. As a retired hospital administrator, I know a little something about customers (in my case its patients) and what they expect. The MacArthur Inn is definitely a must stay hotel if you are visiting Narrows VA or passing thru the area.
Perhaps the best part for me (an amateur history buff) were my several conversations with Allen and the stories he told me about the history of that part of Virginia and of the hotel itself.
Loved the very comfortable bed to sleep and the plush towels (not the thin kind you get at many hotels/motels).
Highly recommend you checking out this very...
