I gave a 3 star review because there was good and bad things about this park. Good- the bath and shower area was very clean and kept up nicely! Also, we did not stay in the cabins but they did look pretty nice and some had good access to the lake. Bad- the campsites, at least in our area campsite B, were way too close to each other. You could here each other’s conversations and see right into each other’s RV’s. Also, although this was a State Park, I feel like the maintenance of the park could have been better. There were no trash bins throughout the park either except one dumpster on the way out. Also, the main road leading to the state park was under construction so you had to take a long and winding detour through some pretty sketchy neighborhoods and on some really poorly maintained roads to get there. Not to mention having to travel this same route if you wanted to go into Natchez for the day. Also access to the lake from your campsite is possible but only by small trails leading down to small sections of the lake which were overgrown. You could however get better access if you got in your car and drove to the public pier. Also, the hiking trails evidently had not been maintained well, although we never really used them because the park ranger told us when we checked in that they were closed. So, there you have it. Maybe the review would have been a little more positive at a different time of year or if the road construction had...
Read moreThe park rangers are super nice and very helpful. The cabins show their age but are comfy. We stayed there in December so didn't need the AC, but the furnace worked great. I would suggest you bring extra blankets if you are cold nature and your own firewood since they were out of firewood for sale when we stayed there, although several local chain stores sell firewood. Towels, soap, toilet tissue, and linens are provided. There was a microwave and full size fridge, as well as an electric stove. There are dishes, pots, pans, cooking and eating utensils. No hot pads and the eggs stuck to the bottom of the old pans provided, but we were able to fix meals and enjoy relaxing evenings with the family by the fireplace. There's a TV with dish, but we opted for board games and puzzles. The whole area was extremely quiet and peaceful with marvelous views. The roads in the park are in very good condition and we enjoyed our walk to the lake and the playground area. Drive slowly through the park because...
Read moreWe've camped in state parks across the country and this has the dubious honor of being the worst. The detour entrance has you driving on a horrible road. The campground is TOTALLY poorly marked and has you entering on a extremely narrow, curvy one line (two way traffic) road. We have a short 5th wheel and it was difficult getting into the narrow space. Camping spaces are right next to each other. We left a day early forfeiting the $ paid for another night. The campers next to us did the same. The only reason I didn't give it 1 star was because the bathroom and showers, though dated, were very clean and the ranger I called on the after hours phone was friendly...
