Read moreThis place is an absolute charm! A magical and mystical place where all you want to do is relax and take in the sounds and smells and just take life really slowly. This is my favorite place to hike and camp and one of the cleanest areas I've ever camped at. The waterfalls are pristine, the bayou is clear and the rocks and clay and sand are bug free. It is a very primitive area that has been untouched by agriculture and civilization. There is spotty phone service but that doesn't bother me because I go out there just to get away from people and problems. There are plenty of areas to set up camp. There is no electricity, well I haven't seen anything to plug into. Just go out there in a rugged vehicle that can handle the bumpy terrain and slick gravel. Once you turn left onto the path that says Kistachee Bayou Campground, you will be driving for about 15 minutes on uneven , unpaved roads that are covered with beautiful red dirt and millions of pine needles. It is a little slippery. Last time I went , which was two weeks ago, it rained the entire time I was out there, but I knew that days before I set out on my trip and I didn't mind the downpour at all. I just couldn't keep my fire burning. Other than that, the temperature drops a bit at night so it may be 75 to 85 in the beginning of March during the day but by nightfall, the temperature will have dropped to about 60 to 65. Especially if you camp at the lowest camp site right next to cliff that reaches out above the water falls. So bring...
Read moreExcellent camping spot. I just went 11/21/2020. ($2/day per vehicle - pay at fee station). This camping area is located on the Kisatchie Bayou. A paved walking path with benches is at this campsite. There are several levels of parking, Upper, Mid, Lower. Upper area is to the right immediately after the fee station. This is really just an overflow for parking but I do think some do camp here as well. Middle parking area offers ONE drive-up parking site. The rest of the campsites near the Middle parking is walk-in. The lower section is also walk-in camping. Each site has a fire/pit ring, picnic table and trash hooks to keep the trash off of the ground. Male and Female vault bathrooms are here also. THERE IS NO RUNNING WATER HERE. There is also a nice trail that starts at this camping area. This is a first come/first server campground. There are a ton of places in Kisatchie to set up a tent and rough it out. This is more of a family friendly camping site. Pets are allowed. Firing of guns are not allowed here. Definitely, a great camping site to enjoy a few nights in the woods next to a beautiful bayou! FRESH SPRING water is not far from this campsite if you want to fill all of your jugs and bottles. From Par Rd 321, turn onto Par Rd 380, go 1,000 ft/.2 miles and you'll see 2 pipes on your right with fresh...
