We have stayed at Dwell Box each year for the last 3 years, each year in a different 'tree house'. The first 2 years were exciting and very satisfying. We were very anxious this year to stay in 'The Box'; a cargo container on the hillside that is elevated at one end, offering a wonderful view of the woods. Well, unlike our prior visits, we had cleaning to do before we could settle in.The air conditioner was filthy. My wife wiped grime off of the unit inside & out with paper towels which we brought 'just in case'. Even though there were paper towels supplied, we were glad we had them as I had to clean the exhaust fan in the bathroom which was 'caked' with dust. When my wife opened the refrigerator it was so frosted up, the door would not shut. I had to melt the ice (with a lighter) just so we could close the door. It was evident this was a common occurrence as the plastic inside the door was broken several places when other occupants had tried to shut the door. The curtains that were hanging needed cleaned if not replaced. The rugs needed swapped out with clean ones. We are not strangers to 'less than perfect' conditions, we frequent State Parks so you know not to expect conditions like your home. But you expect a little more when you are paying what is being asked. The BBQ grill was full of ashes and needed to be emptied & cleaned before it could be used. The ceiling fan in the bedroom was without bulbs which made it a tad dark. I usually don't 'unload' on a business but it was very disappointing having stayed & enjoyed the past stays. The price paid for a glorified 'hunters cabin' was what sticks in my crawl. If there was a chance to complain to the owners, I would not air this in public but since I couldn't find one I thought they should know. We will not be back. After the above review was posted, the proprietor reached out to me. He was very disappointed that I had not contacted him prior to my negative review. He said he would have made it right. How? By bribing me to falsify an honest review. What kind of business integrity is it that doesn't make it right, period? We were the ones wronged. We paid a hefty price for a disgustingly dirty unit. He should have apologized, refunded or comped a future stay. He blamed the cleaning people...which is a possibility but the disrepair we witnessed (as shown in a couple of pictures) is evidence that the property had been in that condition for some time. They have many units, each one unique. We stayed in 2 previously and were extremely pleased, planning to return each year to experience each one available. My delay in adding the additional review with photos was in hope the owner would rethink his reaction and possibly mend a fence. Evidently, our future patronage of his business is not important or the fact that he took advantage of us without remorse. I would hope that he has started paying attention to his business and seeing that people get what they are paying for. It is a beautiful setting and when the cabins were new with weekly upkeep, they were exciting.

I booked a night away at The Shack. Seemed to be the smallest one, which was perfect for just me. 2 people would be fine if you're there to be close, but anymore than that I would say is too much (my own personal opinion). The Shack is the first stop in the tree house village. Enough parking for 2 cars. You walk across a wooden bridge that stays lit with string lights to your tree house. The porch has a (very) small charcoal grill, 4 chairs around a propane fire pit (which gives great heat). You'll find a soaking tub (very roomy- coming from someone who is 6') and an outdoor shower. The inside is very small, which is why I believe 2 people is plenty here. Theres a small bench style table for eating that's connected to the kitchen. There isn't much of a kitchen (no stove/oven). There's a mini fridge, few pieces of silverware, cups, pans, french press for coffee, plug in water heater (for tea/coffee) and a plug in heater for cooking with a pan. There's an Indoor bathroom with a shower and toilet (sink is in the kitchen). There's an extra bed on the bottom level but the main bed in the lift. To get up, there is a steep latter that takes a little arm strength and if you're tall like me, you won't be able to stand straight up. I recommend brining your own pillow if you're not someone who can sleep on just anything. Again, I cannot stress this enough: this is not a big roomy cabin with all your needs. Think of it as an actual camping trip, so bring essentials that you must have just incase it is not supplied. But don't bring too much (especially food or frozen things because it is just a mini fridge). Now for me, this was a peaceful, relaxing, and beautiful night away. I adored the simple life for a night. The soaking tub while the fire was going was wonderful, as was a hot outdoor shower in the cool morning air. You are in a little village, so you may hear others or dogs from other tree houses. I will definitely be looking at staying in the other locations just to see the subtle differences.

My husband and I stayed in the Arrow. And we absolutely loved it! This was our 1st time staying in a treehouse, and it was a blast. It makes you feel like kids again. Our house was very clean. The inside and outside hot water was quick to get hot and stayed hot! I used the outdoor soaking tub and relaxed for almost 2 hours in it before I decided to get out, but it stayed remarkably warm. I was happy to have a flushing toilet and fresh running water. It's a tree house!! Our suspension bridge in, was so fun! We had plenty of space inside and out on our deck area. We used the mini wood stove and the outdoor gas fire pit. I text them to check if they had more fire starters before I walked down to the supply area and they got right back to me and told me right where they were. We didn't cook in the house so I can't speak to any of the cookware but the mugs and utensils were clean . It was really nice to have all the linens provided and shampoos and dish soaps etc. Loved that we were out in the wilderness but with neighbors. We didn't have any issues with privacy, there are curtains by the outdoor tub and shower. Also warned that the wifi might not be good and we had no trouble with it at all. Did school work on line and watched movies. It really exceeded our expectations. It was so much fun. It's not ment to be a fancy hotel. So don't book it if that's what you're hoping for. We drove over 5 hours to get here and would come back again. It would be fun rent out all the houses with our adult kids and our families. We also tried out their recommendations. We ate at Park St Pizza- delicious! And everyone that worked there was super friendly, great service. And we went to Hershberger's farm & bakery. Reminded us our our home towns farmers market. We loved it. Great selection of all kinds of snacks and bakery treats. Everything we got was excellent! Heading to the Football Hall of Fame tomorrow on our way home. Can't wait. A perfect weekend get away!
