I've been coming up to this strectch of the North Fork for years, but always camping. I've driven past these lodges many times and wondered what the stay would be like. Well, I can honestly say that I didn't want to leave after my 4 night stay. I love this river and the cabins are in a perfect spot. It was so chill and relaxing on so many levels that I cannot wait to get back. For the $ spent it was perfect. Your not getting posh 5 star hotel treatment, but it was perfect to me because of everything else and for the $ spent. The hosts, Mike and Michelle were great! Very polite, very helpful, and easy going. The kitchens have all the basic ammenities, but if you want to make or cook something that requires additional gadgets, I suggest bring them with you. The tap water clean and crisp with no taste just the way water should be. If you want a rustic experience harken to the days like when I was young, this is the place. Not too many places like this left - keep it just the way it is. Can't wait to bring my extended family back next year. Thank you...

We stayed in the Jim Crow cabin-- it is the most isolated of them all with several stairs to descend to reach the cabin. The deck offered a gorgeous view of the grounds and the river. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. No TV and limited wifi, but plenty of games and puzzles to borrow for entertainment. There are convenient places to swim and fish in the river. It was an absolutely gorgeous place to relax for the weekend. If you are looking for the solitude and peace of the woods and river without the hassle of camping, this is your place. My only complaint was that our room had a smell similar to cigarette smoke when we first walked in. After opening the windows and door for a bit, the smell subsided. We found a cigarette butt in the bbq so most likely a guest prior smoked inside. Gnats can get inside pretty easily and will fly around the light fixture, but they really don't...

Beautiful property overlooks the North Yuba River, with pleasant lawns and huge pine and fir trees. The friendly owners have placed small decorations, flower gardens and sitting chairs here and there, creating a very relaxing ambiance. ||||The cabins are clean and comfortable, and their kitchens are very well equipped. Some are right on the river while others are in the woods.||||Highway 49 is right across the river, but sits higher, is shielded by trees and this section has very light traffic, so the road is not an issue.||||Cabins do not have unnecessary irritations like TVs and telephones, but do have rather slow wifi.||||Bring groceries up from Grass Valley as Downieville and Sierra City are very small with limited supplies.||||There are good hiking trails in the lakes basin area from Gold Lake trailhead, about 35 minutes' drive.||||Recommended for lunch: vintage local hangout Red Moose Cafe in...

I wanted to love it but it was so expensive and it didn’t feel like a good value. The grounds are gorgeous as is that whole Downieville area. The person who checked us in and out was friendly. The cabin was alright but not for 600+ for two nights. Not a holiday weekend either. With a little tlc this place could be amazing. A lot of the lightbulbs were burnt out, the amenities were non-existent and the towels were so tiny we could barely wrap them and were smaller than average. Coffee maker but no coffee and the furniture was old and uncomfortable. If it were half the price it would’ve felt like a decent value but I would’ve rather paid what I paid and had coffee, nice towels, a hair dryer and some pamphlets about the area.

What a surprise Sierra Shangri La was! I was not expecting the accommodations to be as pristine as they were from the well kept gardens and lawns to the rock beaches of the North Yuba River which literally runs right by your door step. What a relaxing stay! Just enough local history to keep you engaged. Great place! We were there for a week in August and going back for a weekend in August. Charlie and her crew keep the place so clean it is incredible! Mike is always ready with a friendly smile and local story. Mike and Charlie are the Management team and are true professionals at making you feel right at home! They really did add to the enjoyment of our stay! I also thought the board game and lending library were great!

This is a beautiful, quiet place. You hear the river everywhere you are and the forest around you is fantastic. Rebecca is wonderful, and my wife and I enjoyed talking with her. The cabin was clean and we loved it. There are lots of cool little places to sit down by the river and lots of green grass. We would definitely recommend this place if you would like to get away to a wonderful place!
