I've had some great times here, a beautiful place with cheap camping. However there seems to be a crime wave going on recently and after parking in the trailhead parking lot for 1 night I came back to find all the wheels stolen from my car.
The thieves (meth heads) left my car on logs and took all the rims and tires, smashed a window, stole a few things from inside the car, took the gasoline, and messed with the fusebox. I think they failed at stealing the car and got pissed and just took everything they could.
The police don't seem to care because it's BLM property and the BLM doesn't have enough staff to secure the area.
You most likely won't have a problem in the campground area but leaving a car in the trailhead parking lot overnight can be a bad idea here.
I also learned that a search and rescue volunteer was shot several miles up river (East) from here in early August. There are people squatting in the woods and also people protecting their illegal marijuana grows. Be careful up here, its beautiful and a...
Read moreILL FOREVER BE GRATEFUL FOR THE BLM STAFF, AND RANGERS that oversee this place ! Always !!! They keep it clean and clean up after those who can’t seem to do it themselves! It is a fair distance from the actual river. And probably best if you bring your own drinking water 💧 Bear lockers for food USE THEM!!! Be bear aware at this camp… LOCK ALL SMELLS IN THE LOCKER ! Trails are moderate.. narrow ! I had no reception and if you’re coming from nevada city , coyote road is the last place for really good reception. 4 ton limit coming across bridge if you’re coming from nevada city. So if you’re planning to camp, it may be wise to carry emergency car tools/plugs/fixaflat, because if you use AAA they would have to take the long route around due to bridge limit… Campgrounds are fairly close together… but you can find a couple with privacy there’s one or two double spots and the price here is pretty amazing considering THE amount most campgrounds are...
Read moreI like this camp because it is so far from the highway 49 and it is cheap. Last time I was here several years ago, it was only $5 a night. The downside is that is is not an easy access to the river, although there is a hiking trail that parallels the dirt road - back to Edwards Crossing bridge. Mid week, I slept in peace and quiet. Met a hippy couple and had dinner with them, cuz campfires were not allowed - due to high fire dangers. This place is a great base-camp for exploring the Malakoff Diggins State Park, North Bloomfield, Yuba River and numerous other historic mining sites around Tyler Foote Rd and...
