A Charming Step Back in Time (and a Perfect Base for Adventure!)
Nestled in the quiet, historic town of Dutch Flat, the Dutch Flat Hotel offers a truly unique experience. As one of California's oldest operating hotels, it's brimming with Gold Rush charm, transporting you to a bygone era.
My recent stay solidified its place as a favorite getaway spot, and I can't wait to share why. From the moment I arrived, the staff's warmth and hospitality made me feel welcome. Check-in was a breeze, and I was soon exploring the hotel's fascinating collection of historical artifacts. I stayed in Bordello and then moved to the Honeymoon suite which was not only beautifully decorated and comfortable but also spotlessly clean. The Honeymoon Suite was simply magical, with a large bed and a comfortable rollaway bed for our kid.
One of the things that sets the Dutch Flat Hotel apart is its thoughtful amenities. Having access to a guest kitchen was a huge plus! Being able to prepare some of my own meals, especially with the conveniently located grocery store right across the street, added a level of flexibility that I truly appreciated. This is particularly helpful for families or those on a budget.
And let's talk about location! Dutch Flat itself is a charming town, perfect for a peaceful retreat. But its proximity to several ski resorts is a major draw for winter sports enthusiasts. Imagine spending a day on the slopes and then returning to the cozy comfort of this historic hotel!
The highlight of my stay, though, was the amazing breakfast. It's clear that the hotel takes pride in providing a delicious and satisfying breakfast experience.
Beyond the comfortable accommodations and convenient amenities, the Dutch Flat Hotel offers something truly special: a sense of community and connection to history. It's a place where you can relax, recharge, and experience the charm of a simpler time. Whether you're seeking a romantic getaway in the Honeymoon Suite, a base for exploring the nearby ski resorts, or simply a peaceful escape, the Dutch Flat Hotel is the perfect choice. I highly recommend it and can't...
Read moreRepeat customer! I have utilized the Dutch Flat hotel on a few occasions, and each time has been very pleasant. Dutch flat it self is very quiet and a great place to escape the everyday and step back to a slower time. It's proximity to 80 makes it a great place to stop in-between Truckee and Auburn, or just a place to visit in it's own. The Hosts of The Dutch Flat hotel are amazing, they went out of their way to ensure my comfort. My stays consisted of days at a time and utilizing the guest house (dentist quarters) was a home away from home. Initially, the options for food were limited, (the Monte Vista, located just off 80 was about the only option in the Flat area, this restaurant is very good, but that is a different review) since the Dutch flat itself was limited to breakfast and make your own, and also depending on occupancy of the main hotel itself, since my accomodations were the guest house, and my work hours prevented enjoying breakfast. But, from the other reviews and guests I have spoken with, breakfast is always delicious with a wide variety of options to choose from. Now, don't mistake my meaning, this in not a restaurant in the normal sense with wait staff and a full time kitchen. This is a guest level option. Now, with that said, The Dutch flat has recently received their license to serve beer and wine, for which they have a good selection, and are now serving dinner, I was lucky enough to be invited to the "soft opening" and was able to sample a few of the menu items. First was the Charcuterieutery plate with a wide selection of cheese and dried meats, I followed this up with the Chicken pesto, then was able to sample the Pizza, all while haveing a few of the available beers on tap. Everything was delicious, and I am looking forward to returning. My hats off to Leif and Wendy along with all of the staff who made my stay...
Read moreA hotel with great history, well decorated and maintained with convenient location. And can’t beat the price. Definitely a hidden gem, I can think of many ways to host events at this hotel, there are many possibilities. We stayed there for one night, when we arrived there was no staff at the front desk, luckily we weren’t the only family there (it took us 30 mins to find our room) and the other families helped us. We joked about how creepy it would be if we were the only ones staying at the hotel 😆I’d sweat. The downside for us has been no free breakfast as we expected, and we did not see any staff on site during our stay. Luckily we brought enough food with us. They left their kitchen open and we were able to microwave our takeouts and brew fresh coffee in the morning.
Important side note: the sunrise/ sunset balcony rooms share the bathroom. It was awkward when we realized we needed to share the bathroom with strangers 😂 additionally because it is an old hotel, so expect no soundproofing. We could definitely hear the sneezes, kids running around, etc. from either next door or downstairs.
Overall it was an impressively well maintained hotel with lots of decorations and history. They have an old piano that I still need to try, and the fireplace was on next to where other families left their snow boots. We didn’t get a chance to explore much and rushed back to our room for rest; we packed and headed out after breakfast in the morning. We will...
