What a neat little find. We would have never known about Mount Greylock had it not been suggested by the property we were staying at.
If you want a great view of the leafs changing colours, this is your spot!
Located in the heart of The Berkshires, Mount Greylock is the highest elevation in Massachusetts, and offers trails, photo spots, a war monument, and even has a small Inn at the top.
The views from the top are breathtaking, and you can see into multiple states (New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Connecticut).
While we were there, we climbed to the top of the Veterans War Monument Tower, and took in the views before checking out the inn which had small gifts and even a cafe with open views and picnic tables. We learned that you can actually stay at the inn from summer until fall (October).
We also watched a paraglider take off from right in front of us, which itself was a neat experience.

Read moreMt Greylock is a tremendous resource and great natural beauty. There are miles of trails for all kinds of users from hikers and bikers in Summer to snowmobilers and snowshoers in winter. The forest is uniformly old field with occasional large trees and many old stone walls, save for the summit areas. In terms of trails, for something challenging, we recommend the Thunderbolt, a steep old ski run that leads from Greylock Glen to the summit. Also difficult and interesting, though seldom visited, is Mt Prospect on the western side of the range, accessible from the Hopper. For something easier or with children, we recommend the Cheshire harbor trail for those who wish to summit the mountain. If you just want a nice walk in nature, enjoy the trails in the Hopper on the Williamstown side or Greylock Glen on...
