We were booked to stay here two nights. We came home early from the beach so our kids could play in the pool which was advertised as closing at 6. We put our suits on and walked over to the pool just as a staff member was turning off the splash pad and locking the gate. I asked if the pool was closed, and the staff member said "Yes, the pool closes at 6." I assumed we had misjudged the time and took my two crying kids and baby back to the campsite. When I arrived back, I checked my watch and saw that it was only 5:35. My husband went back to the pool where the staff member was sitting in a golf cart. My husband asked again if the pool was closed, and the staff member repeated, "The pool closes at 6." My husband said, "But it's 5:40 now. So the pool is open." The staff member said, "Well you would only have 15 minutes to swim." "So the pool IS open then?" My husband repeated. "No, the pool is closed," the staff member finally said.
If my kids had been able to swim just thirty minutes that would have made their day, and we would have happily gotten out of the pool at 6. If we had arrived after 6, it would have been our own fault, and we would have simply stayed the night to play in the pool before we left the next morning. But if the pool hours are whenever a staff member feels like opening and closing the pool, then there was no point in trying to swim the next day. We decided to check out early and start heading home. We went by the front office before we left, and we told the office staff that we were leaving because the pool had closed early. The office staff said, "I wish you had told a staff memeber so we could have opened the pool for you before 6." We said that we DID tell a staff member, and he made it clear that he would not be opening the pool for us. I don't know if this is an issue with a single staff member or a campground wide problem, but closing the pool thirty minutes early right as a mom and three kids in swimsuits are arriving is not the kind of behavior you expect at a campground geared...
Read moreAfter four years of full-time RV life, we've experienced a wide range of campgrounds, but few places have felt as welcoming, well-run, and memorable as New Bern KOA Holiday. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this campground is something special. The grounds are immaculately maintained, with spacious sites, clean facilities, and beautiful views of the Neuse River. Families thrive here whether it's kids riding bikes under the pines, neighbors gathering around evening campfires, or peaceful mornings spent by the water. There's a sense of calm and comfort here that's hard to find.
At the heart of it all is the incredible management family: Chino, Leni, and children. Their warmth, dedication, and hands-on care shape every aspect of the guest experience. They're always present, always helpful, and clearly love what they do. It's no surprise they've earned the admiration of both local residents and travelers alike.
And we've also seen the rare occasions when guests forget that camping is a shared experience. During our stay, there were a few individuals who didn't quite align with the peaceful, family-oriented vibe this KOA is known for and exhibited reckless golf cart behavior and loud, inappropriate conduct that could've posed a concern. What impressed us most was how quietly and professionally management handled it. There was no drama, no disruption just calm, steady leadership that ensured everyone's safety without compromising the welcoming spirit of the campground.
We've made wonderful memories here, and it's clear this KOA is more than just a place to park, it's a true community. If you're looking for a clean, safe, and family-friendly place to stay, you won't find it better than the New Bern KOA Holiday.
