Read moreWe arrived at 3:20 in the afternoon on a Tuesday and the office was CLOSED FOR THE REST OF THE DAY!!! That might have been fine if I had made a note of our campsite number OR if there had been cell service in the park so I could have pulled up my reservation email. What campground office closes for the day at 3:00 (or earlier?)??? We drove around through the campground looking for a park ranger or anyone who could help. We spotted a campsite with a sign that said “Host” and had a park ranger truck parked next to the camper in the site. I knocked loudly and got no response.
Finally we found a spot where we could get a very faint cell signal and pulled up the confirmation. And once we knew the site number we were able to find it after much driving around and around. It was a very frustrating experience!
Other than that, the site was nice, and the campground was sparsely populated and quiet. We were there to drive up Mt. Washington, and it’s nice that the campground is close to the auto road.
By the way the Mt. Wash. auto road is privately operated (we had assumed it was a state thing) and cost $72 for the 2 of us! A lot more than we were expecting. They did give us a $10 off coupon for a meal at the nearby restaurant The Notch. So we had a yummy breakfast in a very nice restaurant for a good price the...
Read moreSite 94e The campground is very nice. It is 5-6miles to Gorham and 6-7 miles to Mt. Washington. There are many many hiking trails nearby. The campground itself was well maintained. The bathrooms were clean. The sites were not too close together. We chose a site that was so uneven that we had our tongue jack on the ground in order to get level back to front. Luckily side to side was pretty level. In looking at other sides, we just happened to choose one that wasn’t well suited for our 30 foot trailer. there were many sides that would’ve been really good for us. This one just wasn’t it. It was, however, a large site, very little shade, but we could put up our screen house and still have plenty of room. We happened to hit three nights stay where temperatures were well above average and the mosquito activity was very high. Which meant we didn’t do as much in the area outdoors as we might have. That isn’t the campgrounds problem, just bad timing. We would come back here and stay again. Just be a little more careful about the...
