My hunch is that the regular manager was on vacation during our stay in August, as other reviews mention staff who were not there during our visit. The fellow who was there seemed much more familiar with the Napa property than with the Willamette area. ||Our room was spacious, attractive and clean, but not worth the $908 per night which we were charged. For that price, one expects close to perfection in a rural inn. ||Prior to our stay, we asked about suggestions for wine tasting. We received an email indicating they would be forthcoming, but there was no follow through on this. ||The breakfast was good with pastries and fruit, but it would have been nice to have been served some butter and some protein, as well, yoghurt, perhaps. And instead of sticking a plastic bottle of half and half on the table by the coffee when we asked for something other than artificial creamer, placing it in a pitcher would have been nice. ||Also, we tried to enjoy some wine and cheese, which we purchased locally, one evening on the deck, but were driven inside by a swarm of yellow jackets. At that time, it seemed like the air conditioning was not turned down enough in the common room given the 87 degree outside temperature. ||The service overall felt indifferent. I had problems working the coffee machine in my room (my fault), but couldn’t find anyone around at 7:30 a.m.. We also were unclear when and where wine and cheese were served in the afternoon/evening, as mentioned upon arrival. Maybe this could have been written down somewhere in the rooms. Also, a listing of recommended restaurants in the area would have been appreciated. ||There also was a strong sulphur smell emanating from the faucet in our bathroom, which we were told came from the well water (that’s excusable in a country inn). But I had a bigger problem with the design of the bed: the mattress sat on a platform which extended 6 inches outside all sides of the mattress. I bumped into a sharp corner one night and took a big gash out of my leg. ||So all in all, we were less than impressed with our stay, an opinion shared by another couple with whom we traveled. Maybe at half the price we would have been...
Read moreLOVE this place! Perfect couples getaway. New, clean, nice and quiet, never heard other guests while there (presumably due to the respectful policies in place to genuinely ensure enjoyment of all guests). Coffee was outstanding (a must for a Seattleite), food delicious and well-presented. Lea and Andy were gracious and accommodating, and had great restaurant and winery recommendations for us.
Having stayed here twice now and had a perfect experience both times, I think the couple of negative reviews here are COMPLETELY unfair. (While I won't address all the points specifically I had to chuckle at what some of the guests seemed to be expecting, or at a minimum acknowledge they are likely new to B&Bs and how they work). If you've stayed in many B&Bs you will realize this is as good as they come. Trust me, you don't want to be in your room listening to a group of other guests hanging out drinking in their room or common space when you're either trying to have a romantic evening or go to sleep after long day of wine tasting. Nor do you want the hosts constantly around making small talk with you at every turn; they have lives too and are gracious and friendly enough, but are not here to be your companion any more than a hotel would. Nor do you want to smell another guest's Dominoes pizza or Chinese food smell lingering in your room all evening because they brought food in; OR not be able to sit outside on the common area veranda and enjoy the view because another guest has spilled food all over the couch and the pillows so they need to be removed and washed (this unfortunately happened during our visit when another guest broke the rules and left a big mess for the owners to clean up in the morning-- now that's rude!)
I agree with the comment that if you want to hang out with friends and socialize, or want a house for more eating/cooking in, then this probably isn't the best fit for you and you should just vrbo or rent a house. But if you're looking for a high class place to stay and plan to dine out and mostly just relax in your room then you won't find a...
Read moreWe booked this inn for a one-night stay in the wine country several months in advance of an event. For the price we paid – nearly $600 for one night – we expected luxury, and although the inn was pleasant, it wasn’t exactly luxurious. Some small touches could go a long way toward earning it five stars. For starters, there should be more than one bath towel per person in a room for two people. And there should be two robes; there was only one, and only one pair of flimsy foam slippers that we chose not to use. Two pairs of a higher-quality slipper would be nice. There was a light blanket in the closet, and it had a very strong, unpleasant odor, possibly of fabric softener. Small things suggested someone was in a hurry when the room was prepared for our arrival: the safe had been left locked by a previous guest, the hair dryer had been left out of its bag by a previous guest, and there were only flavored teas in the room, nothing for someone who enjoys plain black tea. We also felt that the breakfast box could use some upgrading. It consisted of two over-cooked (dark green yolks) hard boiled eggs, two little packets of pepper but no salt, a couple of tough croissants (without butter) and a Danish, a very small portion of yogurt (and no bowls either in the box or the bedroom), orange juice, and a fruit bowl. On the plus side, the fruit bowl was fresh and had a good assortment of berries and melon (plus two small pieces of tasty orange). Other pluses of our stay were a comfortable bed, and a pleasant patio outside the entrance, although with a view to large high-power lines. At a lower price point, this hotel would win us back, but should we return to this area for a visit, we’d probably try different...
