I will preface this by saying we did not actually stay at this hotel, but we had been planning to, before actually seeing a room. A few days before our stay, I called ahead to see if they would have a big enough room to accommodate my family. We have three children in our family and it is not comfortable to fit all five of us on two double or queen beds. So we often look for rooms that have adjoining rooms or suites with 2 rooms or at least 3 beds. He assured me that he had two different kinds of rooms that would accommodate us. We settled on the prices and then mentioned the fact that we had seen several bad reviews and asked what he could say to us to make us feel better about staying there in spite of these reviews that we were seeing. He said to come on down and check it out. So we did. We drove up there on the first day of our trip and the same man who is in the pictures of this hotel standing at the front desk handed us a key to go check out the room. We, my husband and I, walked in and the very first thing I noticed was there was a dead bug sitting in the middle of the doorway where a welcome mat should be. So I first had to step over the bug. As I'm looking around the room I could see a few more bugs on the floor, all dead. Thankfully. But a small matter of sweeping that up before we saw the room would have helped in this situation. I lifted the comforter on one of the beds to see if the sheets looked clean and they did not. There was what appeared to be dirt and hair on the sheet itself and on the underside of the comforter there was a long, large yellow stain running up the seam. At this point I had seen enough but looking around the room and walking out of the room, I realized I was stepping on what appeared to be soft spots in the room floor. It was some kind of the linoleum or fake wood flooring I'm not sure exactly what the flooring was made of, but it was not real hardwood and it was not tile that looks like hardwood. As I was walking out of the room I noticed several more spots that not only were soft but some of them were coming up making a mini hill in the floor. We returned the key to the front desk and said that we would pass, he said okay and let us go. He did not even ask what was wrong with the room. He knew that we had planned to come up and stay there three nights at almost $200 a night, And he did not ask why we didn't want to continue and use this room. Edit: Since the manager has chosen to reply to this view review and said that the bugs were no big deal and I'm overreacting and that we were in a hurry, which is why he didn't ask us why we didn't want to stay in that room. None of those things were the case. The bugs were cockroaches, the sheets were nasty, covered in dirt and hair and he's choosing to focus on the fact that it wasn't a big deal and we were in a hurry. We weren't in a hurry, we never gave any indication that we were in a hurry, if we were in a hurry why would we have come in and just checked out the hotel room before saying hey yeah we'll book it. The real thing is he never asked anything we walked in he knew we were coming and he didn't even inspect that room to make sure that it would be clean enough for us to stay in. And if that's how that room is I'd hate to see how other rooms were and that's supposed to be one of his bigger more expensive rooms. I left this out of my original review because I was trying to be nice even though the room was horrible and not clean I was trying to be keep my opinions out of it and not sway people to just skip trying here. But there are nicer hotels not far from there. The only thing he's got going for him there is that he is right on the river none of the other hotels can boast that they are on the river and he's right about that but if he would just do a little bit better job of keeping the rooms clean he would have a booming Business There is a motel not far from them that does not look much better from the outside than the Suwanee Gables does but when you get inside you can tell the difference in...
Read moreAs a native born Floridian, I have watched much of the "Old Florida" bull dozed to make way for newer, pricier attractions, such as Cypress Gardens turned to Lego Land. Arriving here is like stepping into a time capsule, but in the most rewarding way. Despite our late night arrival, the staff were prompt and helpful getting us checked in and accommodated. Anyone whom has stayed here, was handed an actual door key, and expected modern day chain hotel features are being unrealistic and dare I say missing the most beautiful feature of this little quant stop along our travels; it's window view into the Golden Age of Natural Florida Tourism almost gone and forgotten. Even if you're not stuck in a time machine such as I, you'll find a stay here very relaxing in this clean, comfortable, and quiet little hidden gem along the Suwannee. For those needing specifics; the staff here are friendly and very warm, like familia. The room was very clean, well stocked with towels and toiletries. The beds were spotless with fresh linens and comfortable. Parking is with ease. The views are great and our children loved dipping in the well maintained pool. It doesn't get any better than that folks! Thanks to the lovely couple running Suwannee Gables Motel & Marina, we'll be...
Read moreI prebooked 3 rooms next to each other as I was going to be traveling with 4 tweens and my parents. Upon checking in they explained they could not honor my request and that there would be several rooms in between all of us. I explained why that was not acceptable to which they moved us to the other side of the motel (the old dirty not updated side) and gave me a joint connecting room with only one bathroom and a single room. There were 2 towels provided for 6 people and when we tried to shower we discovered that the drain in the shower had no pipe connected to it so the water just collected under the tub and into the exposed ground underneath. One of the bedrooms had a pile of dirt and dead bugs on the floor that someone swept and failled to pick up. Upon checkout they did not know how to use the new "system" so I was not given any type of receipt of my stay or what I was to billed. Of course, I should have been insistent to receiving a receipt because they have billed me for 4 rooms and after multiple attepts to have a refund issued they have not...
