I usually never take time out to review a resort. But this resort, the staff went all out and was so friendly, personable and approachable that I felt compelled to write a review to acknowledge their customer service, the overall experience and the way the resort felt when we were there during our recent vacation in end of June to July 4th (6/27/25-7/4/25)
Front staff Jay (3pm to 11pm shift) was great. Very friendly and had lots of recommendations of place to visit around the surrounding area of Newry, Maine. Always approachable via text message and always knew my name and called me by name when he saw me. The activities the resort put out in the lounge for the kids was also the best I have seen in the many timeshare resorts I been to. Thumbs up to the resort and team for thinking about the kids.
Greg (11pm to 7am overnight shift) was extremely friendly and helpful , the first night we checked in as we got there at 3am after (15 hour) drive from NYC to Newry. On our second to last night my daughter saw a teddy bear at their mini gift shop and since my daughter refuse to part with it, Greg was so nice to buy it for her. The gesture touched my heart and may our trip extra special.
Unfortunately we didn’t know their summer season begins after July 4th. Most resorts the season begins after Memorial Day. But I guess, not here. So we were 1 week too early which meant most activities didn’t start yet. But on the flip side, we had the resort all to ourselves and also the undivided attention of all the staff. Greg said the staff works between Sunday river and the other two resorts. The Grand Summit lodge and our resort - The Jordan. We went to visit the other two resorts and the golf course on our last few days and we loved the decor and feel of our resort more. It was more modern and sophisticated, also bigger. The sister resort looked older and less expensive in comparison.
The room we got check into on the first night was a studio deluxe and it had problems. The closet door was broken and we didn’t know it was a Murphy bed with a sofa bed. So we called front desk regarding a room upgrade. The staff in the morning Gary, saw the notes left by Greg and we were allowed to upgrade (on the house) to a bigger unit - two floors with two bedrooms, a sunroof, balcony and two private full size bathrooms with loft upstairs bedroom and a master bedroom with full living room and full kitchen. It was a surprise and well received upgrade on the house. We loved it to say the least. We didn’t have our housekeeper do much except to change the towels and take out the garbage. I guess they must had been happy. They were friendly and gave my daughter rubber ducky and bubble bath soap. On second to last day another housekeeping staff got my daughter crayon, coloring pages and candy. Their mascot Eddy and Betty the yetis are quite adorable. And it’s an ongoing theme throughout the resort.
They are trying to make this resort an all season resort. But you can tell they are mostly ski and winter snow season resort and best time to come is during the ski season. Probably most popular time too.
Our check out was July 4th, but we stayed nearby for the firework show at Gotham, NH. As the resort prepared for Independence Day they put out a lot of treats and glow sticks as well as stickers and candy. Which was a nice surprise.
The resort also has grills that allow guest to use any times. We grilled! Also had a pool and hot tub … too bad the hours were so restrictive and close early that we only got to use it for 10 mins on one of our days. Lastly the gym was open longer, and guest can use it whenever.
Making s’mores on the fire pit seems like a big thing in Newry and in the neighboring town. So we did that activity twice. It was fun! The resort provided all the supplies.
Personally, I love the feel of this resort and highly recommend them. If it wasn’t such a far drive, I would go more often. Maybe in the future will try to go here...
Read moreHonestly, wanted to like it. I thought with a fall visit at a reduced rate for a wedding I was getting a deal but a reduced rate apparently meant a dirty room and disconnect between the staff. From the website, the pictures of both the hotel and rooms give the impression of a clean and well-kept establishment. Checking in was a different story, while the staff was pleasant during interactions, upkeep is minimal. Scuff marks all over the walls, chipped paint up and down the corners, dirt, and debris in all common areas as well as our room on check-in. The moment we got into the room we went out onto the balcony to see our view and immediately were met with an empty Bud Light Blackcherry Seltzer can. There were pizza crumbs on the couch and sunflower seeds on the carpet. Not a great start. This caused us to check the bed linens for cleanliness and while the linens seemed fine, a bit yellow tinted from use, the linen-covered bed platform the mattress sits on was torn and broken. I've managed hotels before and know that sometimes these things happen and you don't have the materials to fix, for 186 rooms, I get it. But it's offseason and this is when you tackle preventative maintenance issues and this does not seem to be a priority for them. We brought up the seltzer can and pizza crumbs to the front desk and asked for some sanitation wipes, the man at the desk cracked a joke about behaving at dinner and handed a packet of wipes to us without a sorry or offer of resolution. So we went back to our room to dispose of the can and wipe down countertops and surfaces (not something you want to do yourself for 180 dollars a night). The next morning I brought the issues up the front desk who were far more apologetic and offered a change of room, but since we were already unpacked and everything, I declined but asked that housekeeping go and clean the problem areas. When we got back to the room later, the bed was made, trash taken out and dishes put away but the crumbs on the couch were still there both on top and under the cushions, and the sunflower seeds were still on the floor. At this point we have a wedding to get to that was held onsite. With all of this COVID stuff taking place the staff was not very concerned with people wearing their masks while walking around. I thought they would be a bit more strict on the social distancing and mask-wearing considering the problems that arose with people getting COVID from a wedding in Millinocket a couple of months prior. People were allowed to dance tight together without masks, walk around freely without masks. If I were a guest just staying in the hotel separate from the wedding I would have been concerned and I was participating in the wedding. Upon getting my bill for the stay, I was charged $420 total, included was the services fee, which I find comical considering the lack of. I have extensive years in hospitality and the first thing I would have done would be to deduct the service charges from the bill. I wasn't asking for a comped night or free drinks or anything that maybe others would use a dirty room as an opportunity to milk from the staff. I was asking for a clean room which I didn't receive. I would be mad as a hotelier to get a bad review without the opportunity to resolve the issue. We went to the desk twice and the issues were not resolved. During these times it is paramount that your establishment is clean, Rule #1 in fact. I thought with an off-season rate at a highly rated (on other review sites) resort was a deal.. but I'm afraid I paid too much for...
Read moreGorgeous newly renovated lobby but old run down rooms. The mattress felt like it was 50 years old, every move in the bed felt like a spring was going to pop through. The toilet barely flushed from the start and then we ran into some plumbing issues that maintenance had to come in to fix. The kids were afraid to use the toilet after that so went to the new bathrooms in the lobby for the rest of our stay. The coffee pot was one of those extremely cheap ones that barely drip to make a single cup. Don't expect a real glass carafe one or a k cup one. The worst part was the coffee shop didn't open until 7 and was understaffed. There was no coffee in the lobby to grab, only tea. We ate at sliders and the breakfast, definitely below average food. Also, bring bottled water with you for drinking and the drip coffee pot, unless you wan to spend $8 for the bottle of water they leave on the table for you to purchase!!!! The kids loved the hot tub outside. The old steam room had a light dangling with visible electrical wires which certainly looked unsafe. It was closed the next day. I visited the spa hoping to create a basket of gifts for a friend who is ill, but there were no price tags on anything or a price list. I had to ask for every single item and the lady had to look up each item while helping other customers. I finally got frustrated, put them back and ordered them online. The pros of the Jordan are the gorgeous new lobby, location to the mountain and the convenience of leaving your skis with the ski valet. The older gentleman working the ski valet was so kind and definitely deserves recognition. I certainly hope the rooms undergo a...
