I booked the hotel because I thought Wyndham was a nice, reputable, upper scale chain. The pictures online of the hotel, including the rooms, lobby, pool and hot tub looked nice, as well. The hotel was not as nice as advertised and not up to our standards. We would have changed hotels, however, would have lost money and had a difficult time planning our trip/travels at a different location.
The room was not clean. There were stains on the carpet and on the couch. There had been water damage to the room, as evidenced by the bad paint job over peeling paint in the window frame and paint over what appeared to be mold on the ceiling in several places. There was one partial roll of toilet paper in the room - not enough for 4 people for a two night stay. The beds were comfortable, however, the comforter was bunched up from laundering and therefore, really thin in some areas and the bed skirts were outdated and looked old.
Wi-fi was provided, but was so poor, that we used our own phone data to access the internet.
The exterior of the hotel looked decent, except for the large, dead rat, lying for both days next to the bushes in front of the hotel.
The pool and hot tub were a disappointment. The hot tub had disintegrating walls that crumbled at the slightest touch and was chlorinated so badly that skin and eyes burned with use. The lighting in the pool area was dark and not at all lit up as in the pictures, as if some of the lights were purposefully left off. There were towels in the pool area only one day, and not both.
The breakfast was not at all up to standards. The first morning, there were no clean tables available, and only two other people using the dining area. There was a small refrigerator with gallons of milk and individual tubs of cream cheese. There was dry cereal, bread for toast, dried biscuits, "fake" eggs, an empty area where sausage gravy was supposed to be, and items to make waffles. The "hot" items, were not hot - as it appeared there was no system for heating the eggs and gravy. I had to ask for a table to be washed and for some gravy to be refilled. The process of getting help took about 15 minutes. There was no water to drink. There was no coffee in the dining hall, rather, you had to go to the lobby to get coffee. The coffee was in decanters that were not kept warm, so it needed to be heated in the microwave. The juice was watered down as noted by my own family and another group of women that came down to eat. There were paper plates, plastic spoons and plastic forks available for use. However, there were no napkins, paper towels or anything to wipe hands or faces on. There were also no knives to cut waffles or spread butter, jams or jellies.
It appears that the hotel is staffed by a family, as there were a couple children lounging in the lobby and minimal staff available at any given time. Upon check-in, we could not pull our van up to the front door, because it appeared a staff vehicle was parked there, (it was there for most of our stay). Upon checkout, I waited at the front desk for about 10 minutes with another young lady who was also awaiting service. She told me she had been there for awhile. I picked up a phone and dialed "0" to get some assistance and had to tell the staff that there were two of us at the front desk waiting for service.
Overall, it was quite a terrible experience and we will avoid any stays at AmericInn and Wyndham properties...
Read moreWe were looking for a place to stay off I-80 as we were headed back home in Illinois the next day. This place is right by the raceway, but since there was no event, the hotel was fairly empty. Since I was not familiar with Newton, I assumed all the fast food/restaurant places were all close by. However, the vast majority of places were about five miles away off the next interstate exit, so unless you walk to the truck stop across the street and have McDonald’s, you need to drive further. ||When we checked in, the manager (I believe) checked us in, and we were on the third floor. We have never stayed at this chain before, the lobby was nice, and it reminds me of the Country Inn & Suites. We threw down our bags and then left for dinner and then noticed the manager was going to the parking lot as well, and I thought perhaps he was either just getting some fresh air or was going to see what was going on as we did see some people just hanging out in the parking lot (but they were not creating any issues). ||We then come back about 30 minutes later and turns out the manager is friends with them as not only is he still in the lot, but he is just sitting down in the middle of the lot on the ground chatting with them! No clue why he did that and why they just do not go to the lobby as there was plenty of space. Our room faces the parking lot, and later I looked outside to see our view and sure enough, he was still on the ground.||As for our room, there were a couple of outlets that were out, including the one that overlooked the desk. I did report it when we checked out and the person claimed there was another switch that must be on. Not sure where this magic switch is, but if that is the case, it needs to be labeled. They have DirectTV and have a very large selection as they have over 120 channels, as well as some movie ones. The elevator button was loose, something I can't remember ever seeing at any other hotel. ||For the pool, my daughter and I checked it out and we loved the main pool as the water was nice and warm, as we are used to frigid pools. The workout room was funny, as it looks like they may have just converted the sauna as they just stuck two machines in there and that is it. The whirlpool was also a letdown, as some of the paint was chipped and there was a sign that it would take a few minutes for the jets to go on and we waited and waited and if they ever did go on, it was weak so it wouldn’t surprise me if they just closed that off as it seems less hotels are offering that.||Regarding breakfast, it was disappointing as I was expecting something close to a Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express breakfast, but the options were limited and what they had was low in stock. Their decaf coffee was terrible as well. They do have a small bar, which seems out of place, but I guess it is there for the race crowd.||I did see the hotel won various awards, but the last one was in 2022, and I could see why they have not won anything recently. While nothing really bad happened when we were here, but if we were in the area again for a race, we would probably pick...
Read moreAbsolutely livid with this place. During the entire stay everyone was nice and my kids even liked the people that worked there. We had a birthday party and my kids went swimming. We piled everything, towels, made sure trash was in the trash. Picked everything up and put the pull out couch back the way it needed to be and we left. I regret not taking pictures because the next thing we know $250 is being taken out of my account and then $100 and then $50 and then $25. I called the police, the hotel staff sent me a video of the entire room filled with the trash we left in the trash can. We even made sure to clean up after ourselves down in the breakfast room in the morning. Calling my card to report fraud on Monday. I am so distraught that they even insinuated we left the hotel that way. My kids are very respectful and we wouldn't leave anything like that as a guest. Police called though I'm not sure what we can do. The front desk lady even saw my husband clean up after our kids for breakfast, one of the ladies had her kid there and my daughter said hi after they came out of the office and the lady told her daughter to come back to her and leave my daughter alone. I'm starting to wonder if it was because of the way I looked? Our satanic shirts and my dreads. We are nice people and smile and wave and help when it's needed and mind our own business. It's sad that we were judged. Very upset with the situation and hope no one else has that is like us has to deal with this situation ever. The money I spent on this was planned for so long just so my daughter could have a good birthday and they took every cent because we were different. Smh. NEVER go to this...
