Best lodge I have ever stayed at! Stayed in the main lodge. The staff and owners were sooooo super friendly and accommodating!! The pride they take in their work here is above and beyond anything I have ever experienced before!! Especially with this weekend being on BBQ Days/Labor Day weekend when they were super busy!! Rolf checked us in and gave the lay of the land, history of the place, awesome tips for food and hiking on the property that did not disappoint, as well as, hiking, fishing and things to do in the area. Of the staff on site, Carol was amazing!! So kind and friendly and helped us with some extra coffee and towels and visited with us on some neat features of the hotel even though she was busy and we felt bad for interrupting her work. Melissa took time out of her busy day to show us how to fold the pillow cases in the neat way they folded them, and also provided us with some really awesome information about the lodge and surrounding area! The only other folks I came across were Harty and Marjorie – who it turned out were the owners the place! I thought they were staying there and started telling them all the wonderful things I learned about the lodge. They smiled……..shared a few additional details about the place with me, and at the end I asked, “where are you visiting from?” Turns out they owned the joint and I was soooo embarrassed!! They never said a word. Harty is super soft spoken and after I found out who he was, I said, was I correct in what I was telling you about your place? (Water fountain outside from Paris, artwork from an European tour etc) and he said, “Yes, I guess we did travel around and buy a few things for this place.” WTW!!??? How humble is that!!!??? Next morning while having breakfast in their bakery in town (which was super busy because of the BBQ days), he get’s up from the table he is having breakfast at with his wife and friends and starts serving coffee to everyone! Tells me he was a Captain in the Army 50 years ago and now he serves coffee in a bakery (and I might add with a smile!)|Pretty dang impressive!!! Marjorie eventually let slip they were voted the 23rd best lodge to stay in the world!! I believe it!!!|I went down the rabbit hole – as for the hotel itself. Best mattress and pillows ever!! Jacuzzi tub was super big!! If you forget soap, shampoo, conditioner, blow drier etc……….they gotchu covered! Small fridge in the room which came in handy, coffee pot and plenty assortments of coffee, tea etc……..beautifully decorated, overlooked the Clearwater river, a/c, heat, cable tv, couch with light for reading……….it had it all!! The Norman Rockwell painting hanging outside my room (101) was a wet signature from way back when!!! |Rolf hooked us up with a short hike on the property that went through a culvert under the highway to a beach and fishing spot along the Clearwater! |As for something negative to say……..I read the negative reviews on this place. All I can say is –it ain’t the place that’s the issue…….it might be you! Steep driveway – yes. But I was in a 4wd truck so not an issue for me. For motorcycles, there were plenty of them there so apparently not that big of a deal. Driving into Kamiah for breakfast? Shoot, it’s like a mile and they serve until 3p. If you want something not on your voucher, they will deduct $8 from the meal (which are super cheap anyhoo……I got the most expensive meal on the menu which was $14.99 minus the $8 voucher and coffee is free). You can get breakfast, lunch (burgers, salads, sandwiches etc)The turn to the lodge comes up quickly around a curve……I called a head of time and they clued me in on what to look for so I prepared, however, a sign warning you it is coming would be nice (I had to say something less than positive and that was the best I could come up with!) |The place reminded me of the cover of the Eagles album “Hotel California”. The copula on the main deck probably, but it was amazing to sit there and look out!! To the owners and the staff – you are something very special!! Thank you for a wonderful stay! We will...

We booked a cabin 1 month in advance and the day we were leaving to go check in they called and said the firefighters had needed the cabin so we said okay and they have us a room instead. They did not discount it for the short notice or inconveince which we were like okay whatever we'll deal with it not key it ruin the vacay for our mothers memorial. The room they said we'd have would be facing the river which it was not we faced a parking lot and a hill. Then we noticed we were overcharged by $80 so we talked with the manager on duty and she was very nice very accommodating and respectful but she had to notify the owners so we could get our refund. When we talked to the owners he degraded us called us liars even though we had proof from the receipt they made and the charge that was made through the bank statement. We also found out the firefighters canceled the cabin and they still did not notify us or give us the option or anything instead they rented it out and said oh but they have cancer so we gave it to them. The owner also immediately stated he hates dogs even though it says pet friendly and we paid $200 for a pet fee. He literally called my husband a creature. I also did not feel safe as they leave the outside lights off after 10 to save money. When we left I took pictures of the room in fear of being charged for something we didn't cause whatever they felt like coming up with. When we brought up issues with the female owner she tried to hush us so the other guests didn't know what was going on. They were very rude and still have not refunded the $80 extra dollars. I feel bad for the staff and guests being treated so poorly. Everything the website says about the view and the cabins and the so called bridge was a lie. Not worth the time or the waste of money. This place was...

Was bumped from my reservation of one of the cabins that I made and month in advance, was overcharged for the room we were given. When I tried showing the owner the overcharge, was accused of lying. The owner told me that he doesn't like dogs, despite them claiming to be dog friendly. The owner also insulted my family and referred to my son as a "creature" when charging me for more than two people in what was a room listed for 8.... The included breakfast IS NOT ON THE PREMISES, you'll have to go into town and get there early because it's the only restaurant open in the morning. However the staff was wonderful, not having any say in the owner's actions or Hardy's, the owner, decisions concerning your reservation. The so called river access is a joke, the trail is dangerous and difficult to use, and you're forced to go through a drainage tunnel, while stooping to get through and no lightning, only to find a dangerous drop, which is supposed to be a trail.... The pictures of the river were taken about a mile away. I discovered that after we checked in, and being told the cabin wasn't available, was in fact rented out to by the owner to someone else. Then lied about it when confronted. DON'T EXPECT THAT MUCH FROM THE OWNER TO BE HELD TO HIS WORD. The only thing that kept us from leaving the first night was how wonderful the staff was. We did however leave early because of the attitude of the owner and he refused to fix the...

I hope you make time in your life to visit Hearthstone Lodge Resort. The location above the Clearwater River is excellent. The lobby is warm and inviting. Our room opened up on to the back of the building and had a view of the river. The staff welcomed us with friendly smiles. Something I noticed about our room was the number of wall sockets available. I've stayed a numerous hotels across the country and most five or six plugs, usually as part of the lamp on the bedside table. Our room at the Resort had 24 plugs (seriously) in the room and three more in the bathroom with the jacuzzi tub. The hotel has a kitchen. They are connected to a local restaurant and bakery with the same name. We received a discount for breakfast of free for select items or an $8.00 discount from any other item on the menu. More on that in another review. This was a vacation trip for us, not a business trip. If only the hotels we use for business trips had this kind of set up. The only drawback for us is the poor cellphone service (Verizon) in the area. You will need to use the hotel wifi if you want to do anything besides text or making calls on you phone. There are dead zones with no cellphone signal in the Clearwater Valley.

This place is so unique! You’ll never stay in another hotel quite like this one. Kamiah (pronounced cammy-eye) is a quaint little town on the river in Idaho. We were passing through on our way from the coast to Montana and decided to spend the night here. We loved it! We stayed in the Royal Chateau room, which is in a smaller building adjacent to the main lodge. The room felt so homey with all the one of a kind touches. The owners are kind, lovely people. Everyone working there is friendly. The complimentary breakfast is excellent, you’re given a voucher good from 6am until 3pm at their bakery/cafe just a couple miles down the road. I’ve never seen more toast choices in my life (picture attached). Very good sourdough! We will absolutely stay here again next time we drive down the beautiful highway 12.
