My small family (wife and a 4 year old) and I just spent a few days at Gull Four Seasons. Here is our stay in 2 words: "Just OK." 3 stars, maybe even 2 and 3/4 stars, would be my rating on this place.||Price: C+|Not expensive, but I feel like it should have been a little cheaper for the chalet quality and boat rentals. We were appreciative of the last-minute booking on a crazy-busy weekend, however. The game-room games were $.25 - $.75, which was awesome. ||Staff: A|The front desk and boat staff were always helpful. No issues there. However, we're really low maintenance. Most issues we try and fix ourselves and complain internally. (MN Passive-Aggressiveness)||Grounds: C-|We sort-of knew what we were in for from the beginning. The initial impression was underwhelming. There is an abundance of maintenance-esque clutter and pallets all over the outskirts. Untended trees, bushes, garages, and even spider-ridden building exteriors. Now-now, spiders should be expected, to a point, with any lake-side area, but our building was almost eerily covered in spider "pods," which meant no lounging near the bannisters to look over the lake. The Game Room was fun, and while the pools (multiple) were not perfect, we enjoyed them non-the-less. The inner-grounds and beach were nicely clean of general trash and clutter though.||Lodging: C-|We had a "chalet" which are just 1 br mini-suite and a pullout bed in the main room. These chalets are horribly dated in every way. From small tube TVs to scratchy wool blankets from the 80s, some improvements should be considered. The hot-plates barely worked though it was nice to have a microwave, dishwasher, and full-size refrigerator. There was also no oven. The bedding was OK in the bedroom, with the exception of the old comforter, and bad on the pullout. Some staining was seen on the pullout's sheets. Oh, and my wife was startled by a large spider on the front couch, which crawled along her back... Again, I give a little pass considering nature on the lakefront, but this should be addressed a little more somehow. ||Beach: B-|The beach was sandy up top (good for kids) and rocky near the waterline (bad for kids). The small rocks were slippery and difficult to walk on. The water was rather nice and weed-free though. I also fished from the docks and caught some nice bluegill in only a few minutes. Much of the beach is dedicated to docking and boating rather than for swimmers.||Boating: B (Fishing: A)|We rented the pro fishing boat, and it was fun. Though I thought it was pricey for a 1/2 day at $90+gas. Regardless, we had a good time, and holy cow, there are a lot of fish in Gull! We would drop the line and catch sunnies and sm mouth bass in seconds!!! If you're there to fill a stringer, get a depth finder, look for 1 of the drop-offs (ex. 5' drops to 20'+ in almost a cliff-like fashion) and you shouldn't have any trouble. Smaller boats were available, but would have only suited 1-2 fisherman (not family-friendly).||Other activities: B-|We heard the canoes were free, but the waves were a bit much on our days there. The same issue for us with the paddle-boards. The pools were OK (A+ if you asked my 4yo). The Playground was OK. Bar/Lounge for daddy? Sadly - no. Food/Restaurant? Nothing there either. On the nice side, our grill was brand new, and each chalet had their own.||Side notes:|Bring your own towels; paper, beach and bath! Also bring kleenex and personal cleaning/grooming supplies. |I guess I could recommend this for hardened (i.e. what spiders?) fisher-families on a budget, particularly if you have...
Read moreThis resort worked extremely well for our group of 47. Being able to rent the "get-together" room for the week was fantastic! We were glad to have this air-conditioned room with its kitchen and tables plus chairs available for visiting, meals, games, and the sharing of family history photos. We appreciated having the outside picnic tables and grills, plus it was convenient to have the play equipment near this area for the little ones.||This resort has a nice variety of rooms, cabins, and condos (some with great views of the lake). Each group in our party could rent the unit that worked best for them. Some of the units are simple (which was good for people on a budget) but all the units were clean. All the units have a kitchen, which worked well for us. (We like to have people provide their own food for breakfast and lunch plus their own beverages. Then we like to all gather together in the evening for dinner.) The resort is small enough that it was an easy walk between these units and the "get-together" room. ||Our group had a great time on the pontoon we rented for the week, plus we enjoyed using the complimentary canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards. A few people did need to use Benadryl for swimmer's itch and learned to avoid getting in the water near the shore.) The non-fishing group using the pontoon enjoyed going out to the sandbar area to play in the water. The fishing group only caught small fish which they released, but they had a good time. Several people enjoyed using the bike trail nearby, and we all enjoyed the beautiful sunsets. ||Sue and Dan and their family plus the staff are very nice and were very responsive to our needs both during the planning for this reservation and during our stay. We made our reservation about a year in advance to be able to find room for our large group. Sue was helpful in letting us know what week would probably be available. She also was helpful in letting us know what cooking equipment, etc. was available and what we'd need to provide.||We always have some members of our family who can't join us for the whole week, so it was very important to have this resort's reasonable daily rate for those in our party who stayed in a motel nearby for a few nights in the cute little town of Nisswa.||This was the eleventh family reunion for our large group since 1985. We've stayed at a variety of places all over the United States, and it seems like this resort met our needs better than any of the other places we've stayed. It's not a fancy place, but that's not what we were looking for. This reasonably priced resort had all the amenities we needed for a great...
