We come here every two years for weeks at a time and our stay is always pleasant. We always have a huge lobster boil for our family who lives here in Maine every time we come. In fact, one of my cousin keeps a camper here year round because the campground is so nice and family oriented. We have always been treated kindly and have never had a problem with anyone here. However, this years visit was a little off and has me questioning whether or not we will camp here again. The morning of the lobster boil my husband informed the office we had family coming to visit and even invited the ones in the office to come and join us. That night we where approached by a gentleman who flew up to our campsite on a gator (whom i later found out is the husband to the actual owners daughter). He honestly had dust and rocks flying. He stops the gator and so it goes...
Us: Hello, how are you? Male: is this vehicle with you (pointing to my brother in laws truck)? Us: yes sir Male: well are they visiting? Us: yes sir Male rudely: Well did they check in? Us: no sir, not yet. We told the office this morning we had family coming. Male rudely: Well have they even paid to be here then? Us: no sir, we didn't know they had to pay. Male rudely: Well someone needs to go pay for them and tell the office they are here..you know I like to know who is coming in and out of MY campground.
I was speechless, never have we ever been talked to so rudely by anyone at this campground. Yes, there is a sign posted visitors must check in, and my fault for assuming that letting the office know that morning we were having visitors was enough. We truly didnt know that they had to pay to visit. So i walked down to office, i was shocked at how he spoke to us and i am sure my face showed it. As I approached the office I saw the same gentleman outside as he saw me as well. So, he follows me inside and he stands beside me. So it goes...
Male: "Do they know that the speed limit on this road inside the campground is 5 mph?" And since he gestured his hand towards me, it lead me to believe he was talking about my brother in law. Me: "I am sure he does sir, but i will advise him if you feel he was speeding." Male: "We have had children almost hit by vehicles here." Me: I understand, I am sure you have, I will let him know. Male: I mean literally we have almost had children hit by vehicles here. Me: I heard you sir. I will let him know.
I am pretty sure he just wanted to show his authority towards me one more time by throwing the "speeding" part into the mix. Our campsite is not even in the busy part of the campground, infact it's at the very beginning of the campground, right after what "use to be" the guard shack. So, I have to disagree with him that anyone from my crew was speeding, especially after the way he approached our campsite with dust and rocks flying every which way and then after the way he left.
I will not give this campground a bad rating because it truly is a nice family oriented campground with lots of activity or because of one person who possibily had a bad day. But, as a paying returning camper of the camprground, he definitely should have approached and spoke to us better than what he did, especially infront of my family who had never been there before (first impressions are important and that put a bad taste in...
Read moreI had high hopes for this campground based on reviews but we were very disappointed. Our site was small, rocky and far from level. Electric wires are not secured and run along the sites, and in places where one could trip over them. The only positive aspect of the site was a nice rock fire pit.|I had to return to the office to request a map and the wifi password, and received a very sarcastic response when I asked for the password. |The interior roads are full of potholes and and rocks. People (including staff) zoom around in golf carts far above the posted speed limit raising huge dust louds which came into our camper through the screens. |The worst part was the noise. Loud music till well past midnight, obviously intoxicated people hollering (obscene language) at all hours made us stay indoors with the windows shut. I am so glad we only had reserved 4 nights! We were relieved when the weather turned stormy cancelling the bonfire.| There is only 1 bath house which is insufficient for the number of people in the park. |There is a pretty lake, but it wasn't enough to outweigh the negatives. |To top it off, they charged $50/night. I would understand if it were in the midst of a high touristy area like Bar Harbor, but it is effectively in the middle of nowhere.|We have spent the last 6 weeks exploring and enjoying Maine. There are many lovely campgrounds here. This is NOT one of them. |We will never...
Read moreWe just spent the last weekend at Duck Puddle, and gave it a 3-star rating because there were some things that were just not for us. The lady who checked us in on Friday was very friendly. The store had all the extras that you may forget. We had site 30, it was an ok spot, rather sloped, we made it work. Beautiful spot right on the lake. We were also adjacent to the restrooms/showers. We did not have a picnic table on our site; the site (29) next to us had 2. It worked because my sister and brother-in-law stayed right next to us. The picnic tables were propped up on rocks due to the heavily sloped sites. This campground had many seasonal campers (meaning they parked and rented for the entire summer) downfall was all the golf carts. I think we have decided that if the campground has or allows golf carts, it is not the campground for us. I find them a little obnoxious. I am also not a fan of seasonal sites with all their site "art". How many garden gnomes does one need? Some of the sites looked rather trashy. Downfall of being next to the beach- it is a very small beach area, and people were very loud. I, by all means, am not trashing this campground. If you have kids, or are traveling with a large group of friends or family, and your objective is to drink, play loud music, and sit up until 3 am, then this is the...
