The Manor House Inn is an absolute dream! The house and the grounds are breathtaking. From the moment you pull up - the stately front door with lion door knocker, the gorgeous foyer with detailed carved wood and dramatic staircase - every single detail is impressive. It is sophisticated, elegant and charming. The decor is romantic and regal. The innkeeper is welcoming and accommodating. She went out of her way to give us some tips on the surrounding area but was also very mindful of disappearing to give us space to enjoy the home and the grounds (and make us feel like it was our own weekend dream home!). Although we were told it was a "full house" this weekend it did not feel that way. It was quiet, calm and relaxing. Our room, the English Garden Suite, was newly renovated but remained true to the period of the home in furnishings and decor. It was nice to be down the end of a hall and feel like we were in our own wing of the mansion. Very private suite feeling. The bathroom was bright and clean with a huge tub and shower! I absolutely loved the scent of the soaps and lotions provided (locally sourced Im sure!) but can you believe they even included makeup remover wipes?! Im sure a smart woman was behind that little detail! The snacks and drinks in the beverage room were often replenished and nice to have chocolates, fruit and cookies when we arrived and again when we came home in the evening. We enjoyed our morning coffee in the Adirondack chairs in the back garden. Breakfast was delicious (veggie frittata, roasted potatoes, fresh fruit salad - YUMMY!). The entire property is meticulous, dreamy and a MUST SEE! We had a delicious dinner at The Boathouse and had drinks at the local pub and brewery. The surrounding towns were super cute but the Manor House was the true highlight of our getaway for sure! Make a plan to visit - you will...
Read moreThis jaw-droppingly gorgeous late Victorian house is just about the best place you could hope to stay. If you love old houses, quiet villages and friendly people, Norfolk and the Manor House are for you. Do note - this house is 123 years old and the walls are not sound proof. You should expect to hear footsteps on the stairs, the radiators clanking lightly now and then, and the pipes when a toilet is flushed. All this simply adds to the charm and authenticity of this Gilded Age gem.
My husband and I stayed two nights in the Spofford suite on a fresh chilly weekend before Thanksgiving. We would stay forever if we could; the room is cozy and warm and the temperature easily controlled by the house's original steam radiators. There is a nice closet with ample space, two dressers one with a mirror, a fireplace with comfy arm chairs and ottomans, and the bed is very comfortable.
The common areas downstairs are just spectacular - there is a sense of the house's history and grandeur while at the same time feeling comfortable and occupied.
The breakfasts we had were excellent - some locally sourced ingredients, delicious OJ and a beautiful dining room to start the day.
The proprietors Kristen and Adam are incredibly gracious and welcoming, attentive and ready with conversation or advice.
We were truly sad to leave this beautiful house and experience - we were ready to move in and hope to go...
Read moreMy wife and I loved our stay at the Manor House Inn! The house is over 120 years old and is historically authentic. We felt comfortable and safe as this was our first time staying overnight during COVID times. The owners, Adam and Kristen, are super nice and know the area very well. We stayed in the Victorian Suite as part of the romantic getaway package. When we arrived there were flowers, a small bottle of champagne and home made chocolate chip cookies waiting for us in the room. The room was very spacious with a seating area in front of a gas fireplace. The room also had a bathtub jacuzzi and a king size bed. The bed was extremely comfortable, had lots of pillows and a heavy comforter. We stayed 2 nights with breakfast served to our room the first morning as part of the getaway package. The breakfast was delicious. Fresh fruit, waffles and smoked bacon. Our second morning we enjoyed breakfast in the dining room. We had omelets made with fresh eggs from the owners hens. It was remarkable. The area has lots of things to do-hiking, skiing, mountain biking, wine trail and beer trail-they even have an old historic theater (The Infinity Theater) which unfortunately was not open due to COVID. My wife and I took advantage of the hiking trails and the breweries. It was the perfect 25th anniversary getaway. I highly recommend this wonderful Inn. Thank you Adam...
