They've finally gotten this place cleaned up, a couple years ago this campground was a mess but now it's being taken care of! Most of the sites have galvanized pipe corrals for four horses, while a few still have the older wooden post corrals, but still descent shape. All sites are now reservation only, so that's been helping reduce the homeless campers, but there are still a few non-horse campers rolling through in the evening and taking up sites and leaving early in morning to avoid paying. Bathrooms are cleaned daily now, there's two muck pits, one at each end and for a small campground that's plenty and they're easily accessible. The trails have all recently been marked with colored tape, which is nice, but the main trail to the beach is marked well and you can ride for miles up and down the beach front. IF you ride North, be aware you'll be sharing the beach with ATVs but heading South is all people and horses. Lots of of open camp sites, nice fire pits with swing out grills (rusty from salty ocean air, so aluminum foil or your own grill to sit on top). Some sites have little tent space, but plenty of room for truck and trailer with many sites big enough for those longer Living Quarter trailers. The road in from Hwy 101 is a bit bumpy with some good sized potholes. The mosquitoes were really bad in the morning and evenings, so fly blankets, masks, and some strong deet flavored OFF! We didn't have masks or blankets and our horses were covered in bites in the morning, probably would have been worse if we hadn't sprayed them with repellant. Beautiful campground, great place to be if you want to get away from the...

First, there are not a lot of trails to ride on. And what is available is all DEEP sand that the horses have to walk thru that can cause injury. We even spoke to the rangers and asked for help with maps and trails. They even told us there was not many trails, but there was a section that had SOME trails. However, it was 4 miles one way in deep sand to even get to the small section of loops and then you had to come back the same way thru the deep sand.
Second, non horse campers are allowed to stay at the horse camps which makes no sense to me.
Third, there is a resident tweeker who rotates spots in his RV with his dogs and his cats. He harasses campers, called the sheriff because his dogs are aggressive and you were standing by his campsite in the road.
Fourth, people drive in and out of the camp all day. Including those who are not camping there. I am assuming they are looking for an open spot to stay in? Not sure.
Fifth, the mosquitoes were HORRIBLE! got out of the truck and instantly got swarmed by mosquitoes. Us, the dogs, and the horses were covered in bites by the time we left.
Drove 10 hours to get there and was very disappointed. Don’t waste...
Read moreThis is one of our favorite horse camps. Our family has been coming for 10 years now. Unfortunately this year we had the worst experience with the 2 lady volunteers Brenda and Annie they drive a big dodge with Montana plates. Our first night there they were so rude came at us first thing being hostile because we parked in the wrong spot. Due to no over flow parking. The second day they were back driving about 20mph my kids were walking and had to jump to the side another camper yelled for them to slow down. The third day they came back starting and being rude so I asked their names so I could report them the got so rude we had call the cops on them. This was the only issue we have everything had here sad that some people hate their job why even volunteer if you hate the campers. Unfortunately we were not the only ones complaining about the ranger had...
