I would just like to start out with saying that this is only the second night of my family of 13 (staying in 3 separate cabins) being at the "resort" and this is a list of all the things that have gone wrong ALREADY:
the cabin - overall, the cabin is beautiful and has a nice home-y feel to it. However, considering the fact that 5 people are staying in our two room cabin, the measly three arm chairs in the living room was a little bit of a setback. We ended up having to pull the chairs from the kitchen table into the living room when a couch/love seat could easily fit in the area provided.
activities - according to Point Lookout's website, "10-pin Bowling Alley featuring arcade, billiards, foosball, event room, and large screen TV's" are all things that are accessible to guests who stay here. However, when we went to check out the bowling alley, the doors were locked. The day before, the woman at the front desk told us that the hours for the bowling alley were 7 am - 8 pm. We tried to check it out at 2 pm. Huh?? We proceeded to go to the front desk to ask them what was going on. A different lady than the day before told us that apparently "bowling is a winter sport and nobody goes bowling unless it's raining." So they closed the bowling alley for the ENTIRE SUMMER. Again, HUH???? She then told us that instead of bowling, we could use the foosball and pool tables. Also, the "resort" also advertised a disc golf course. In actuality, the "disc golf course" was a tree with a bell hanging on it. AGAIN, WHAT????? I would like to point out the fact that my family includes an age range between 6 and 73. Somehow, I don't think the 6 year old will be playing pool anytime soon. And I doubt the 73 year old will be wanting to hike trails. Bowling was really the only thing that we could all do as a family on site. The thing that really made everyone a little angry is that the staff completely acted as if there was no problem and that it was not an inconvenience at all. The staff was not understanding at all and it was a big disappointment.
fire pit - while we were at the front desk discussing the bowling alley situation, we asked about the fire pits that are available for rent. We were a little surprised to find out that it costs $25 to rent a small fire pit for ONE night. We asked the lady at the front desk when we needed to request the fire pit by so that it could be delivered. The lady told us that we could call any time before 8 pm to request one. We called before 7 pm and they did not answer the phone so we left a voice mail. In the voice mail, we requested to have the fire pit delivered so that it would be at the cabin when we returned from dinner (and also left a phone number so they could call if there were any issues.) When we got back to the cabin at about 8:30 (after they closed) the fire pit was nowhere in sight. This was extremely disappointing to come back to considering we had been anticipating having a nice night around the fire.
We still have 2 nights staying on the property. The hiking trails and scenery are absolutely beautiful, however I felt the need to write this review because of the sort of ridiculous things that have happened to us so far. The rest of the trip still remains so we will see how...
Read moreI have been to Point Lookout several times in the past, and I like it so much that I am hosting a family reunion there this summer for my extended family! Mary has been great with all my questions and handled my ignorance of the usual procedure for scheduling a group. The resort is under new ownership over the last few years, but they haven't missed a beat. They took out many of the cabins, making it even better. The cabins are all beautiful wood inside. There are one, two, and three bedroom cabins. Each of the cabins has a fully stocked kitchen and gas grills, as well as a personal firepit outside. The three bedrooms cabins have a beautiful fireplace. Actually, I would try this property if you like camping but don't want to rough it! The area is breathtaking with Camden Harbor and Camden Hills State Park down the street. Actually, I would try this property if you like camping but don't want to rough it! Belfast is a nice place to shop and has museums. If you go to Mid-coast Maine, make sure you take a schooner trip out of Camden ( the last time I checked, it was $55-60 for a two hour tour). Then travel just one town south, and go to Rockport Harbor. It is a real working harbor, just as pretty as Camden, but quieter and less of a tourist town. Good places for lobster are Graffam's Brother in Rockport, Young's Lobster Pound in Belfast, and my favorite, Claws in Rockland. (Rockland is just one town south of Rockport). Enjoy! In the pictures, you'll see having fun at Rockport Harbor on the train engine and standing in front of the view from Camden...
Read moreWhat a wonderful place to sit back, relax, and explore the mid-coast of Maine. The cabins are actually the way it looks in the pictures!! This is a great compliment. The woodwork inside our three bedroom cabin was wonderful. The place is well equipped for light cooking. We ate all breakfasts in after a quick stop at the supermarket. There is a fire pit, a small grill, lawn chairs, screened in porch with adirondack chairs. It's great just to hang out in the screen in porch and enjoy the great, cool, Maine summer. The check in was contactless. All the instructions were given clearly and right on time. Same with checkout. Ashley was very responsive to all questions emailed to her. The beds were firm and comfortable. There is a electric wood stove if you ever want to use it, and normal central heat and AC. The Roku on the TV is an excellent addition. It allows you to cast from your phone to watch anything you want to that you can access from your phone. You can also log on to your favorite streaming service with your own account. The wifi was fast and reliable. There are trails on-site. We did not have time to explore it but it seems like a wonderful thing to do. Oh, yes, and the unit is clean! Suggestions: More garbage cans in the rooms, more towels for the floor in the bathrooms, pot holder for hot dishes coming out of the oven. Warning: The rooms are NOT soundproof. Even low conversations are clearly heard in the other rooms inside the cabin. Be careful of what you say LOL. All in all, it was a great experience. Highly...
