If you’re thinking about camping here to save a little money. Don’t. Even the worst motels in ocean city have better cleaner bathrooms and facilities than this place.
I cannot believe they charge 130.00 a night to TENT CAMP. And have the audacity to keep their bathrooms this way. The bathroom is filthy and disgusting with JAIL STYLE SHOWERS. You have to push the shower in and you get 8 seconds of Luke warm water. Are you serious? You can’t even wash your hair like this constantly pushing the water? Try shaving your legs and keeping a hand free to push for more water? LOL WHY IN THE HELL would anyone ask people to pay for this? Mold and mildew all over the shower curtains. Like covered. I’m not even exaggerating.
Multiple times we went to use the bathroom and there was no toilet paper.
The camp store is an absolute joke. The staff is rude and dismissive. Our site wasn’t weed whacked or cleaned of debris and trash before we arrived.
The WiFi is absolutely terrible.
There are plenty of staff here so it’s really unfathomable how it’s in the state it is in.
The tiki bar is cool. The band was a cool touch. For the price- to tent camp? I would never come back. I’ve stayed in so many great campgrounds for way less with way better maintenance and upkeep.
The shower situation is unacceptable for the price you charge a night. 130.00 a night to not even be able to have hot running water to take a shower at night?
Maybe focus your attention on running one less bar- and fix the condition of your deplorable facilities. Your guests want toilet paper and a hot shower. We can get drinks ANYWHERE. We can bring our own. Priorities? Weird. Questionable.
Also- we tried to book using a promo code for Christmas in July and the website wouldn’t let us, and I never got an email or call back. 25% is a lot of money especially when we saw what we were getting. Why even have a promo to bait people and then not honor it? The woman on the phone was so rude and completely unhelpful.
Another draw back is it really is kinda far from ocean city. Just not worth it.
Next time I’m paying 200.00 a night for a hot shower and a clean bathroom. I’ll stick to camping at places that care...
Read moreWe spent a week through Labor Day at Sun Outdoors Ocean City in Berlin, MD, as our final trip of the 2023 season. This was our second visit — and we had a great time!
In addition to a great beach area on the bay, pool, and other amenities, this place is about 15-minutes from the Ocean City beach/boardwalk. They run a complimentary bus back and forth to the Ocean City boardwalk and to Assateague Island which is a great reason to stay here. The bus driver, Becky, was great. She gave us helpful advice and provided easy way to get around without having to drive.
Our site (# 254) was a good size for our motor home. It was partial gravel and partial grass/dirt. It would’ve been nice to have more gravel or grass because I hate how the sandy dirt tracks inside. It backed up to a dense wall of bamboo which makes for partial privacy. We rented a golf cart which made it easy to get around (and entertainment for the kids). Our only negative is that the wi-fi was non-existent which is common among many of the campgrounds we’ve visited.
For the 4-legged campers, there is a designated dog-friendly beach plus dog run and dog wash station. We used it all and are glad they offered these amenities.
In addition the Ocean City boardwalk and to Assateague Island, the town of Berlin was fun to walk around on a day that was too cool for the beach.
The place went from having lots of empty sites earlier in the week to being nearly full by the weekend. And even with so many people, the place was kept fairly clean and quiet at night. The camp store was well-stocked with all the usual stuff plus beer, a cafe for food, an ice cream parlor, and arcade.
Bottom line: We had a great time at Sun Outdoors Ocean City and can’t wait to go back!
THINGS I LIKED: Clean and well-maintained property and facilities Complimentary shuttle to the Ocean City boardwalk and to Assateague Island Proximity to Ocean City
THINGS I’D CHANGE: Give us working wi-fi (please!) Add some gravel to the site to cover up...
Read moreWe have been to Castaways numerous times, usually in our RV. I've never had an issue or complaint until we decided to rent a cabin. We were told it slept 6. We barely had room for 5, 3 adults and 2 children. The "master" bedroom had a good size closet with drawers. The second room can't be considered a bedroom, as it was more like a large closet with a bed shoved in. No closet, no table, not even room for a suitcase. I barely had enough room to put sheets on the bed. The pull out sofa was filthy and so uncomfortable that we had to buy an air mattress for my 12 year old daughter to sleep on. The entire place was disgusting as far as cleanliness. The A/C vent in the master bed were caked with crud and dust. It took about 20 Lysol wipes to clean the vents. Once I was done, the wipes were completely black. The vent under the bathroom sink was full of dust and dog hair. I had to clean that too. The floor throughout the cabin was sticky and looked like it was cleaned with a dirty mop. The bathroom sink had a buildup of scum behind the faucet that had to be scraped off. Completely disgusting. For someone with allergies, I was very upset about how the vents hadn't been cleaned properly and obviously hadn't been in some time. I took pictures of the problems I encountered to the front office staff and they did absolutely nothing. The one male employee just said plainly, "yeah it probably shouldn't look like that." No apologies, and nothing done to try and rectify the situation. We paid $1,418.00 for Wednesday thru Sunday. For that kind of money, I at least expected a clean unit. If the office staff would have taken my concerns seriously, this would have been a much better review. But unfortunately, as with anything anymore, no one really seems to care as long as they've made their money, that's all that matters. I will even think twice before we come back down...
