Our experience started with check in moved from 3PM to 4PM--exactly, not a minute sooner. The front desk staff, especially Amy Rose, were uniformly rude and condescending. They were also completely inept when it came to understanding the meaning "hospitality". We did NOT get the room type we requested per our reservation. Instead, we had a king suite with a sofa--not a sleeper. We were promised that there would be bedding for the sofa in the room. That was not the case and the hotel staff were too "busy" (i.e., "lazy") to deliver it "due to COVID". I should note here that NONE of the hotel staff were wearing masks nor was there ANY evidence that they took ANY hygienic precautions. Their "due to COVID" excuse for everything was a complete joke! Back to the bedding, I had to walk three hallways on a bum leg to the front desk. Next, we had our 11 year old granddaughter in the pool along with a post-wedding rehearsal group. At promptly 10:05PM, one of the same [lazy] front desk staff members came to kick our granddaughter out of the pool.
Breakfast the next morning was virtually non-existent after 9AM. I suppose that was also "due to COVID". We were thankfully not around the hotel during the next day so there wasn't anything the hotel staff could screw up or refuse to do. On our departure morning, I requested one of the hospitality gift bags that my sister and niece-in-law (some of the wedding party) painstakingly prepared. I was informed by another of the hotel front desk staff that, since my reservation was done through IHG and not using the tiny block of rooms* reserved for the wedding party, they couldn't give me a gift bag**, even though my sister--who made the bags--was sitting 20 ft. away.
I do not, as a general rule, write hotel reviews. This is a necessary exception. If you are planning a get-away or event near Oconomowoc Wisconsin, choose a different hotel. The hotel manager deserves full "credit" for our experience. I've stayed in 5-star hotels around the world and some "dumps". This qualifies as one of my worst experiences, ever!!!!
I am sure that one of the hotel staff will no doubt write a "Sorry for your experience" rebuttal. "Sorry" is a good word to describe the hotel and staff management, the hotel's policies, and their staff training.
When I had tried to call to reserve a room--four times--the hotel did not answer their phone.
** The hotel mgr. wanted to charge the wedding group $5 per gift bag to distribute them. Ultimately, the mother-of-the-bride demanded about 30 undistributed gift bags and did the job the hotel staff were...
Read moreOur room was like pictured. We stayed in a 1 bedroom double bed suite. The only thing I didn't like about it was our bathroom door would not lock and with 3 kids a locking bathroom door is a must but we were already settled in by the time we realized this. Also more than 4 place setting of everything in the kitchen would have been great since we had 5 of us in the room. The room could have been dusted better before we got there but was other wise clean. They don't come in and clean during the week either just basically change your garbage and change out the towels and a couple days they didn't do that I had to request it along with vacuuming. Cause of course with 3 kids that's like a daily chore. We stayed for 7 nights so we took full advantage of the breakfast which was good, nice variety but when the weekend came they had a very hard time keeping up with demand. I waited for French toast sticks for over 20 min which they just decided to not put out cause finally by the time the end of breakfast was coming close. The social hours during the week were great though! Basically a free dinner along with beverages that include free beer and wine! The staff was very nice I just wish they did recognize IGH club members other hotels we have stayed out give you free beverages when you arrive and have no problem giving late checkouts. We tried to get at least an hour added on to our checkout due to running behind from waiting for things at breakfast but could only get a half hour. The pool was clean and warm. The outdoor grill were great but take along time took cook compared to our at home grill. Over all we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this...
Read moreThis place is very nice. And their breakfast and dinners are wonderful. their rates are a little high, but the more you stay, the less you pay or more you earn. Join their membership program (free to do) if you travel a lot, that can really save on cost and you can also be rewarded with free rooms. If I had to stay again for a business trip, I would definitely pick this place. Front desk workers are very accommodating as well. One tip for anyone who is allergic to feathers(as I am), have the management remove all of the pillows out of the room and bring you back the ones that are labeled polyester fill. Multiple times they said no feathers, I open it up and the tag says filled with goose feathers. So if you book in advance have them remove those, & clean the room and bring you just the good stuff. actually if it's a real serious allergy I would have you recommend them to strip the bedding and to bring you clean budding that has never been around the feathers. I mean there were feathers all over the bed as well so I do believe one of their comforters has feathers. So when I travel there, I bring my own comforter and pillows. But they do have other things they can accommodate with. Just make sure to bring that up beforehand and even if they say they don't have feathers, maybe say for precaution you'd like them too remove all of the pillows even the spare pillow and only bring back the ones that are labeled polyester fill and ask them to wash the bedding and to check the tag on the comforter and have them remove everything from the bed and make sure it's safe for you by the time...
