We had a family reunion here in early August, one of my cousins stays here with friends throughout the summer. Reading the reviews online, I was a bit concerned but prepared to clean upon arrival if needed. I have to say I was surprised when we arrived, but really people set your expectations realistically!!||||We had a cooking cabin #1 - so we had a room with a double bed and half bath, then a large room with 2 double beds, kitchen table, kitchen and full bath. You get a full size fridge and yes there were pots, pans, dishes. The beach is accessible directly behind the cabins by going down the steep hill or you can walk around to the boat launch and over. We ended up driving people/beach stuff down and back up..though you need a park permit to drive on the beach and it does get sandy so don't plan on taking your car. Again, its a lake set your expectations appropriately!||||The cabin was clean upon our arrival and while the blankets were old and obviously dishes are from garage sales or have some age to them, they were serviceable. The staff changes out towels each day but they don't vacuum or clean the unit while you stay, they did leave a broom and dust pan so we could clean the kitchen floor and bathrooms. If you don't want sand in your unit...then plan on having a towel outside and make your family take off their shoes and clean their feet before you enter. If you don't yes you will have sand in the cabin..I know amazing how that happens but you did it so deal and don't post crappy reviews because of your stupidity.||||We did have a burnt light bulb and the staff quickly came and replaced it. Whenever we needed something it was taken care of right away. ||||I will say some of our family members were surprised that the $50 a night rooms that say a bed and bathroom at how small the units are. But again, its a bed and a bathroom for 50 bucks plan on spending time elsewhere..like the lake!||||Overall everyone in our party had a great experience in part because we all came from Nebraska so we get it that the brochure and online information is exactly what you get. Again, this is not a 5 star massage parlor place, this a lake cabin where they assume you spend your time at the lake. If you need a pristine sponge, walmart is in Ogallala pick one up on your way to the lake. You want a clean cabin, keep your sandy feet outside your cabin..common sense people.||||I won't be surprised if the lodge sees us again, the beaches are amazing....especially for small kids...we were 30 feet out into the lake before we hit 4 ft water...so lots of playing area for kids. But at the same time, the boats and skidoos could come in and anchor off along the shore. But be aware that you are on state park ground on the beach, no alcohol, car permits required and anyone and everyone can come to the beach so plan on staking out your spot early in the morning. Also, sunscreen...because you will burn with all the sun, sand and reflection off the water. Keep it real and enjoy while...
Read moreI had read the reviews on TripAdvisor and I have to say...I was a bit worried about what we would find when we got to North Shore! Well...you were all wrong! This was one of the best trips I've taken! Lots of history surrounding this lodge...take an adventure...or just learn about Lake McConaughy!! We're here for fun right?!||||Let's consider this...the North Shore Lodge is located on a lake...with sand! Lots and lots of Nebraska sand (with very high winds!)! These rooms are used by people...on vacation...at a lake...with sand...and wind! LOL! This isn't the Taj Mahal...and if that's what your expecting...stay somewhere else. These are cabins...not hotel rooms! You do get excellent service like a hotel, however...the person servicing your room will show up daily on their golf carts! What do you need? Just ask...she just may have it! ||||Our kitchenette cabin was sandwiched between two other rooms with which we shared walls...we thought that might be an issue, but everyone was super friendly and we made some new friends! ||||An added bonus to this vacation spot...there is a cafe which is located at the lodge, itself...within walking distance of all the cabins!! We opted not to use the kitchenette in our room and ate all of our meals at the Lodge (hey...it's a vacation)! LOL! We were never disappointed...and we ate there everyday for 4 days! The restaurant does close early, so make sure you fit their hours into your plans! This cafe is super popular on the weekends (especially in the mornings), so get there early...or enjoy the view and relax just outside the door while you wait!||||Sit back and watch the management and employees working like crazy! It's a constant hub of activity! Tractors provided to come and pick up your boat from your cabin...launch it and then come back and get you when you're done boating for the day and return your boat to your cabin! So cool! The staff use golf carts for most things and they are running all over...taking care of everyone's needs! It's amazing to watch! ||||We made so many new friends and had such a great time...we can't wait for our North Shore 2017 trip...which has already...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed here to check out the possibility of having a family reunion here next year. I can tell you that the money we spent was actually money very well spent, because I now know to not waste our family's money on a dump like this. As you are driving through the resort it does have a certain charm. Yes it is old, but that's okay. What it isn't is clean. The cabin we stayed in was absolutely filthy. The carpeting was stained badly along with the cushions on the chairs. My wife would not remove her shoes while in the cabin. We had to stop somewhere to buy some flip flops so she could take a shower as she found a glob of red hair on the shower floor. I can also relate to a review about the beds making noise whenever you move a smidgeon. Looking at the general filth, my wife refused to lay her head on the pillow (I think the pillow case was clean, but I can understand her distrust). She ended up laying on her jacket. While I'm talking about pillows...is that what you call those things? I have never laid on a thinner pillow in my whole life. We complained about the pillows to someone in the lodge and we were told that we would have new pillows the following night as she told us they had been in the process of replacing them. We never got them. We ate at the restaurant for breakfast, which was pretty good, but again not very clean. ||||In summary, this place was a huge disappointment. I've stayed at many lake resorts, being originally from Minnesota and this was easily the worst. As I've said before it is mostly because of the disrepair and lack of cleanliness and it could be a nice place if just a little pride of ownership was shown, but unfortunately everywhere you turn this is...
