If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I’m not sure how this place had such positive reviews but I wanted to inform future guests of what the stay was truly like for us.
I was sorely disappointed in our stay. We stayed for two nights in June and thought about leaving midway.
First off, I realize it is mosquito peak season in the UP in May/June. We were prepared to deal with mosquitos but the first night we were there, we had to kill over 20 mosquitos in the cabin. They were everywhere and we kept up a body count. Several family members got bitten and it made sleeping a miserable experience. We at first thought that we had let the mosquitos in from moving luggage in but the cabins must not be well sealed - the second night we also killed around 20 mosquitos and were bothered all night. We only left once during the second day, and even hours after no one had entered or exited the cabin, mosquitos continued to pop up and we could not find a source. We left with bites on our faces, legs, and body. If the surrounding areas cannot be sprayed for mosquitos or the cabins properly sealed up, the owners need to provide mosquito nets to guests. As someone from Taiwan, I’ve dealt with plenty of mosquitos but this was literally like my personal hell. If you don’t want to be bitten everywhere and killing mosquitos every 15 minutes, I wouldn’t even bother staying here.
On top of that nightmare, the units are outdated and smelled mildewy. The towels were old and stained. We had to strip some of the bedding because it was sandy and felt like it was not cleaned between guests. The water is hard water and tastes rusty so we defaulted to using bottled.
We also had issues with the bathroom. The shower had almost no water pressure (like a drip) if you wanted hot water. The knob was difficult to use and the owners notified us that they were unable to fix it before we arrived. The toilet is squeezed tightly facing a wall, which made it hard to fit people of standard size.
The only pros were that the wifi was fast, the price is cheap, that the cabins had good lighting (for spotting mosquitos).
I sincerely hope the owners do something to fix the mosquito situation (netting, spraying, sealing properly) We had such a miserable time and will not...
Read moreThis was an AWESOME place to stay.
My friends and I stayed in cabin #9, and it was a great price: only $660 for a whole week!
The cabin itself was small, and only had one bed and a pull-out couch bed. But, for my two friends and I, it was perfect! It didn't really ever feel "small". It felt more... "Cozy"!
The cabin had just about everything we needed, too! Silverware, cups, plates, two dressers, soap for the shower and dishes, garbage bags, and more! We packed so much stuff thinking there wouldn't be anything there, but they had just about everything we could think of!
But, the best part was Don and Linda. They were very, VERY helpful. Whenever we needed anything, all we had to was ask, and they could do it for us! If we ran out of something, they would replace it. If we needed things to do, they had suggestions. When we asked for places to fish, they gave us multiple locations that might be good, and suggested a few places that would give us even more information on fishing. They were always really nice and really helpful, and they really made the experience special.
In addition, the cabins are only a few minuets away from the Porcupine Mountains in one direction, and a few miles from the town and grocery market in the other, and have a beautiful view of Lake Superior out the window. Very great location for anyone wanting to spend some time in the U.P.!
The only real "complaint" I have about the cabins would be the fire pit. The resort has motel units and cabins, so there was always people there. Every night, we wanted to have a fire, but there was always some other family there before us. It's not really the resort's fault, but it was still a little frustrating.
My friends and I had a wonderful experience here that we will never forget. I thank Don and Linda for helping that become a possibility by being so kind and helpful. I would totally suggest this place to anyone I knew for their...
Read morePretty fantastic location: right on Superior (our kids enjoyed playing in the frigid July waters and with the rocks on their beach). Check-in and -out were done automatically, and a key code on the door, so there wasn't any hassle about waiting in the office for someone to assist. Good communication from them, too, leading up to and during our stay. This is a short distance from the Porcupine Mtns Wilderness SP in one direction and Ontonagon in the other, we spent the better part of one day hiking in the former. The place has WiFi & Cable/Satellite (I don't remember which) TV. We booked one of the cottages so we could have the full-size fridge, oven/stove. Overall, it was a pleasant place to stay. Even had AC, which we'd find out later in our vacation can be rare in the UP. No issues with noise or anything like that. Excellent viewing for sunsets, as well (and much later than I'm used to). Really only minor quibbles were over where to park--a couple of the places nearest to our unit felt like they'd be inconvenient to people trying to either access the office or hang out at the beach--and not much covered space or porch outside. Kids got all sorts of wet and sandy playing at the water, and it was a little tricky trying to find a suitable place to let their stuff dry out. I was concerned they tracked a ton of sand inside during our days there, but luckily there was a broom to clean up after them. Apologies for all my photos being...
