The rooms are nice but I had to wipe down the tables and counters and the toilet seat myself with Clorox wipes, because there were stains that hadn't been cleaned. The bed sheets were itchy. There's a 1-inch gap at the bottom of the room door that allows noise from the hallway to come in. The assistance at the desk is helpful. There are frozen food items, chips, fruit bars ans granola bars available in the lobby to buy, and there's a breakfast.
The breakfast is not very good. It consists only of liquid or powdered scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, hash browns, cereal, tortillas, pork carnitas which is shredded pork, salsa, some scant fruit helpings, with a basket of oranges and apples, and a container with a selection of bagels and muffins. This was a disappointing breakfast because I was expecting pork bacon, pork sausage, a pancake and waffle station, grits, french toast, home fries, American food, but it was carnitas and tortillas and salsa and turkey and chicken meat. Please add hot American food to the station to add more variety and selection. At least some bacon and real pork sausage would even make a difference. There are also no butter packages. They have large jars of condiments which is less sanitary than individual packaged condiments, including butter was even in a jar and the lid of the jar fell into it which contaminates the food with germs of everyone's hands who touched the lid, instead of individual butter packets you grab and go. They have a toaster to heat up bread...it was a very small and disappointing breakfast station and nothing was particularly delicious.
The suite is nice and comes with a full size kitchen including a full size refrigerator with freezer, induction stove, microwave and dishwasher. There are plates and cups and cooking utensils and dish soap in the cabinets and drawers of the kitchen. There are paper towels, and a coffee setup, too.
The bathroom is nice, with a walk-in shower with a door, and a separate sink area. The bathroom sink wasn't cleaned thoroughly so I also cleaned that with Clorox wipes. One of the hand towels had multiple strands of long straight hair in it.
I paid a lot of money to stay here at $300 per night, and the suite is nice but, for the price, I expect far better quality of cleaning, of the selection at breakfast, and more staff at the front desk especially on a Friday evening. There was only one person at the front when I arrived and eventually there was a line of people waiting to check in. The person at the check-in was very professional and courteous and also went out of her way to find plastic eating utensils for me when I purchased ice cream.
I recommend guests bring their own bed sheets, their own clorox cleaning products, order an extra towel or something to cover the gap under the room door to keep noise out, and be prepared to order from Doordash or Uber eats for breakfast. The breakfast was very disappointing and I just feel the price charged per night justifies a much better quality and more selection of hot food than what's available. I also had stains on the desk chair and on the cushion table in front of the sofa which can be removed easily if the room cleaning was more thorough.
There is free parking lot parking, a pool and spa, and laundry.
Overall this is a very nice hotel that needs some improvements to be 4-5 star in my opinion particularly with more thorough room cleaning and the breakfast food selection, and they'll be top notch quality if those improve, because everything else is great.
3.5/5 Location is a 20 minute drive from New haven but it can feel like it's further than that. Service is excellent but 4 stars because of the quality of cleaning service where hair was in the bathroom and sink nd toilet weren't clean. Rooms overall are designed for comfort but the gap under the door makes it noisy and the itchy sheets and stains on furniture make me question...
Read moreI don’t believe I’ve ever written a hotel review, but this experience warrants one. The experience was sub-par from the beginning to the bitter end. We booked the hotel because we had a swim meet in the area. This is important because when my family was awoken by a fire alarm at 1am, and not able to go back to our rooms until almost 3am, this is a huge problem when my daughter was scheduled to wake at 6:30 in order to prepare and get to warmup for her swim meet on time. It turns out the reason for the fire alarm was that someone ( or a group of someones) was smoking weed somewhere on the 4th floor. As we waited outside in the cold, the police and fire truck arrived, I will add there was no urgency so it was clear early on there was no danger. We waited for them to blow a fan on the 4th floor to get rid of the smell. At some point they allowed people on the 1,2 and 3 floors to return to their room. Those of us on the 4th floor had to wait additional time. There was no attempt to identify the individuals or communicate to guests, this is likely because there was NO manager on site and in the hours since this started, not one manager ever arrived. This left a very earnest night clerk who was very kind, but clearly left adrift and overwhelmed. Management never addressed the issue with any of the guests, as they should have done since all were impacted. In fear this would happen again I asked the front desk if they were monitoring the floor. In fact they were. While I smelled a hint of weed, the overwhelming odor ( and the maintenance person I actually saw on the 4th floor, was deodorizer. Overpowering deodorizer, industrial strength because maintenance was vacuuming constantly and spraying deodorizer to mask any complaints of weed. If this was their solution, I question why we were evacuated the night before for a ‘smell’ rather than a threat to life. I also question the hotel’s overall handling. It’s an issue when guests have to confer with fire and police to get information. Extremely shoddy management. I attempted to go to front desk several times on the second night, NO ONE was there. On a lesser note, despite 3 phone calls to front desk and 2 calls to their tech department, there was no working WiFi. Additionally, the main switch in the living room area controlled the lamps in the bedroom area. In order for my daughter to go to sleep, all lights had to be turned off despite the separate rooms. How ridiculous. Did I add that we waited 45 minutes to check in because the front clerk didn’t know how to check-in and had to use a calculator for check in?
I will always regret NOT staying at the Marriott, but my daughter said this was where most of her team was staying. Even with that, I tried to cancel and book Marriott anyway. Unfortunately, even several days before the trip you are unable to cancel without paying a minimum of one night’s stay. As well, as compared to the Marriott the rate was absurd. I was fooled by the online reviews and assumed that something about the property was outstanding, I was very wrong in that assumption. I don’t know who leaves those reviews, but hope that someone making a decision also seems this one. This hotel is substandard, even for the type of hotel it is. Overpriced, exorbitantly for the type of hotel it is. Understaffed. Lacking management. And quite frankly, there seems to be no degree of care for their guests. None. Not only would I want a refund, but feel I should have been PAID...
Read moreAs a Hilton Honors Diamond member for many years, I enjoy staying at different properties across the portfolio whenever I travel, and this solo weekend getaway trip was no different. However this property missed the mark, big time. ||Advance check-in and room selection the day before arrival went well. Around lunchtime several hours before I planned to arrive. I received a welcome text from the hotel recognizing my Diamond status and advising that they were here for anything I needed. Nice touch, but would they follow through? I responded asking if my complimentary spring water is available in the suite, or would I need to stop at the front desk? ||Advised of the latter, when I arrived around 5 PM I did stop at the desk to get my water, and was also given a plastic room key in case the Digital one didn't work.||Digital did work, and I proceeded into my room. I noticed that the room was a little cold, so I put on what I thought was heat. It was about 39-40 degrees outside, so heat would be needed. I figured it would take a while to warm up.||Fast forward past dinnertime. A couple hours after arrival I noticed it was still cold in the room. I tried all different settings on the thermostat to no avail. Cold air was still coming out of the unit.||So now was the time to take the front desk up on its offer to this Diamond member to provide anything I needed. I advised in the text that I was trying to get heat and asked what am I doing wrong? The response was, "Yeah. I can send someone up to help." Yeah? Is that professional? Does that portray that you care about my issue?||Half an hour later, a man showed up at the door. He fiddled with the thermostat and the unit by the windows, and determined the problem could not be fixed. He left presumably to check if any other rooms were available. He returned a few minutes later to advise me that the hotel was sold out. I said I guess that means I will freeze tonight. He said he was sorry, but offered no further solutions. No further communication came from the front desk.||Needless to say, I spent the night shivering and did not sleep well because of this. At age 64 it's hard to fall asleep as it is. Having extremities such as my face not covered by the blanket exposed to the cold did not help.||In the morning I made sure to check-out in person rather than via the app. I told the woman at the desk that I had no heat. She seemed indifferent and surprised by this, so apparently my situation was not communicated between shifts. And although she did also apologize, nothing further was done or offered to compensate me for what I went through.||I left the property in a heated Uber car and never looked back because there is no way I would ever return to subject myself to those conditions ever again.||While it is true that I exercised my privilege as a Hilton loyalty member to choose my own room, I had no way of knowing that the one I chose would lack such a basic amenity as heat on...
