Pretentious and rude – read ALL reviews before booking and stay elsewhere. I booked the summer special for one night as the promotions for food, drinks, scenery, and pool looked amazing, but unfortunately, it was the worst experience I ever had at an Inn, especially one that is Select Registry. I regret not reading reviews here before booking. I highly encourage you to read the owner and manager responses to all the reviews. I was blown away when I read some of the responses as I never saw anything like this. I suspect I will receive a rude response as well for posting an honest review of our stay.
Went to the tavern and proceeded to see the hostess who was extremely rude and made us wait for 10 minutes to see if we were permitted to sit outside. It was not raining and the place was not full. She kept whispering to waitresses, etc. It made us feel very uncomfortable and was odd for a place that wasn’t full. She came back with a very cold and rude response and said there must have been a miscommunication about eating at the tavern then told us she would seat us. It was an odd experience and no one there smiled at all – hospitality 101.
We were seated outside and the waitress was extremely annoyed with us as soon as she approached our table. She coldly asked if we wanted drinks and when we said no, she quickly removed the glasses from the table. A few minutes later, she returned and when my mom asked her a question about the menu, she cut her off. Never experienced such attitude and rude demeanor in a restaurant.
My mom and I got up and left without ordering based on how we were treated. On our way walking back to our room, we saw our butler which is something the Inn emphasizes as a key service for every guest. While he was nice, he was very inexperienced. After we told him what just happened, he said sorry and that the only options to eat in town were a Burger King and Subway. He didn’t offer to get a manager to see what could be done. He then told us that this happens often there!!!
Very upset, we went back to our room and heard a knock on our door - it was our butler. We thought he was going to offer us a dining option, something to make up for what happened, etc. It was just him offering cold water and two macaroons. He then said since we were hungry, he could bring us more macaroons. REALLY?
We got showers and laid down, looking forward to leave the next morning. We got a call over an hour later (a little after 9:30 p.m.) from the concierge to see if we wanted to come up for food. We asked why someone would call after one hour – no comment. We declined since we were showered and in bed. Quite frankly, disgusted with the experience and the Inn. The concierge who called told us he would notify the manager so we could talk to her the next day at check-out.
The next morning at check-out, the person at the front desk asked how our stay was and when I started to proceed and asked for the manager, she said she was the manager – so why not graciously approach us and talk to us about what happened instead of asking how our stay was when she already knew it was horrible. She was also cold and didn’t apologize (common behavior for staff here). Honestly, she didn’t even care. When we asked about management the night before, she told us the gentleman that greeted us at the tavern was an assistant manager. So here was a manager who saw what was going on and ignored it.
I asked her what would be done to accommodate our rate since we had a horrible overall experience. She said the restaurant is “different”. It’s part of the Inn which is promoted in the specials, not to mention the only place to eat at the Inn.
This place is pretentious and cold. Hospitality does not exist here and it’s obvious from the leadership responses to the staff behaviors that there is no regard for the customer experience. Spend your money elsewhere and stay where you are valued as a customer and respectfully treated...
Read moreLet me begin by saying how incredibly disappointed we were with our stay. While you have a beautiful place in the hills of VA, your accommodations were less than average for the prices you charge and the woman who checked us in was rude at best. We find it will be best if I just list the items of disappointment than to rant in a lengthy note. We were delayed getting into Baltimore given air traffic and weather delays in the area and thus were not able to spend the night Friday. We contacted your staff as quickly as possible and were told there was nothing they could do in accommodating our cancellation, that no refunds would be available to us and that if we wanted to try and get a return then we should reach out to the wedding parties as there was nothing they could do. I am sure that our hosts had nothing better than to discuss a refund the night before the wedding. At a minimum, we should not have been charges your hospitality/resort fee as we were not even there. We have traveled all over the world from boutique hotels to national chains and have yet to stay in a place for the nightly rate you charge where there was no bathtub in the room and where the rooms were so incredibly small. We could barely maneuver our suitcases in the space. In addition, most bathrooms are fully equipped with toiletries where yours lacked shampoo. Very disappointing rooms. While the event itself was beautiful, the accommodations for the rain were not well thought out by your staff. Rain happens but a plan to accommodate your resort guests should be a forethought not after thought. The mosquitoes under the tent were horrible and there was no way to get from the wedding to the dinner without getting soaked unless your guest had brought an umbrella. How difficult would it have been to have your staff there with umbrellas to escort your guests to barn? The lighting along your pathway was spotting from what appeared to be lack of bulb replacement. In the dark, on wet pathways and on a steep hill this made for treacherous navigation back to our rooms ( we will gladly post pictures). The lighting along the slatted bridge was out and I got a heel caught in the slat, ruined a perfectly new pair of J. Renee shoes but fortunately avoided hitting the pavement. Accidents happen but when your waitstaff is cleaning up and knocks over the red wine on your dress, one would have suspected to be approached by the manager in the type of facility you proclaim to be to determine how to remedy the situation. Obviously, this did not occur. Thus when I brought it to the front desk attention upon departure they said I could leave the dress and they would do there best to take care of it. As the dress was packed and we were late for our departure (see below), I opted to take care of it myself upon return to our home. Upon check in the manager asked if we would like coffee at 9 something and as we had an early flight we declined. The manager then said she would call her staff to accommodate the earlier time with our beignets and coffee at 6:45. We gladly accepted as there are no coffee machines in the rooms and it was quite a drive to find that first cup given the location. Delivery was 15 minutes late and with two sips we dashed to the front desk to pay our bill and delayed yet again in negotiating the cleaning of my dress and printer mishaps. All in all our experience was not impressive against all the favorable reviews sites have posted regarding your resort. We will not be back nor would we recommend to others given the exorbitant price you charge relative to the value received. Very very...
Read moreWe got married at the Inn on Nov 17, 2018 and my husband said he wanted to take the lead on this review but a year later I am doing it because it is long overdue and I wanted to share how wonderful The Inn at Willow Grove and the people are. I cannot even think where to begin. I’m sure there is not anything I can say that has not already been said about The Inn. First, this is not your typical Inn with all the beautiful cottages on the property is more than just an Inn. Before we drove up to see the venue, I was pretty sure I had found what I wanted for a destination wedding weekend just from what I saw online. When I pulled up in front of the house I was sold before taking the tour. The Inn at Willow Grove is just that place that feels like home. Everyone who works there, and the owners alike, treat you like family. There is a genuine kindness that exudes from everyone. The grounds are impeccable, the spa is wonderful, the cottages are beautifully decorated and so comfortable you never want to leave nor do you miss your own bed. The restaurant and pub have wonderful culinary so I just knew the food for the wedding would be delicious with a creative touch and the wine selection was impressive. My wedding guests, till this very day speak of how beautiful our wedding was and wonder how I found such a gem. My wedding was one of the best days of my life, unforgettable. I had a wedding planner and the team at the Inn worked seamlessly with them to make it all happen and had nothing to worry about. They were professionals till the end and right on the spot if I wanted for anything. I have not one complaint and I spent 18 months working with them to plan our perfect weekend and wedding from accommodations to guest and rehearsal dinner. From bride and groom luncheons to reception dinner and breakfast for guest the morning after. I had 8 outside vendors they had to work with as well and there was not a moment that this team fell down. Always happy to help in any way. My only complaint is that I had to leave sooner than I would have liked but our honeymoon packing awaited us at home. I was what you would consider an old gal for a bride at 51 but it was my first time being married and wanted for us to have something we could look back on and enjoy the memory we shared with family and friends. I hate to use such a catch phrase, but it was truly an amazing day a bride’s dream wedding and venue. None of that could have been without those at the Inn at Willow Grove. My husband and I will be returning every year for a visit. We are headed there Dec 6th for the weekend and his birthday. We will be getting another couples massage and hitting their charming store “Objects” where I buy their signature coffee all year round. We are excited to be having lunch at their “Forked” restaurant on Main street and dinner on the property at “Vintage”. Looking forward to my signature French pressed coffee and warm beignets in the morning such a classy touch but it should not surprise me since this place speaks nothing but class with a touch of rustic glam with the most truly authentic and professional staff. You will fall in love with the Inn at Willow Grove as my husband and I have. If you are planning a wedding The Inn should be the first best choice you make for your...
