It's a quiet place to park your camper or pitch the tent near a lake, but that's about it from what we could tell. The overall rating over 4 stars is being very generous. Owner is nice; proud of the campground; and, spends most of her time on the phone. The office/store area was clean. Laundry area was clean and worked.
We were there 3 nights, including a Friday night. My impression is that weekends might be a little noisy with kids, parties, dogs, and traffic. But that's to be expected at many campgrounds. It did quiet down before 10.
Extremely rough road coming in. Not sure if the owner maintains it or the local government, but it is really not a fun 1/2 mile at 5 mph pulling a trailer or in the 1-ton truck without a trailer. And, watch the low hanging cables/wires across several locations if you have a tall rig. We were told by someone who followed us in that we only cleared them by inches in a couple spots.
Most sites are seasonal. Some of the cabins appear to be seasonal too. Many sites are not well maintained and have a lot of extra, unused, stuff scattered around. Apparently there are very few rules on what you can do or have at your seasonal location. Others do their best with what they have to work with.
Short term site we were in was large enough, level, and mostly dirt and gravel. And we all know what happens when it rains on dirt. But, a pull-thru with a stump at one end, really isn't a pull-thru. There were several other stumps around the campground that could cause problems with equipment.
Electric appeared fairly new, so apparently recently reworked in some locations. Sewer connection didn't have a cover. Water connection had a 4-way split setup to serve two sites that leaked horribly. Attempts to fix it without interrupting service to the neighbor's trailer were futile.
Needless to say, if we ever get back to the area, we'll be looking for a...
Read moreFirst let me say that I booked this trip back in January so I was very dissapointed when we arrived after driving 12hrs. When I booked I told the lady we had 2 families traveling with 27ft campers and she said the Camper sites could accomodate us and she mentioned the sites had water and electric with no sewer we thought ok no problem. Upon arriving we pulled into our site and tried to hook up our electric only to find a 110 (2 prong plug). The camper sites 2 and 5 had no 30amp electricity. I looked on the map and it showed out site as camper site all the others sites in the area had 30amp hookup. It was late so we didn't even hook up and went to bed. We woke up early and noticed the campground was mainly seasonal camper we was the only 2 there for a week all the other sites had full hook up and overall the campground is not cared for, our sites had a sign "pop-up campers only". Why would they put us here when I clearly said we had 27 ft campers? To make the area look even worse they even allow the seasonals to put up 6ft fencing blocking the view of Pushaw lake. The bathrooms was filthy and my daughter spotted beer cans on the floor.. great for families, ha? NOT!!!. ||We quickly decided we was not spending our week here we called other campgrounds for openings and found another campground nearby with full hook up at the same price. If your reading this review take it as seriously as you can and look else where or you...
   Read moreFirst, the good:
The people working there were wonderful. The swimming area was ok. Kayak rentals were great and we had fun kayaking on the lake. Facilities were nice and clean. The proximity to Bangor was perfect and reasonably priced so if you need to stay in the area for a Bangor event on the cheap this is a good deal.
Now, the bad. Like others have said the road leading in there is ROUGH. The campers are packed in and looks like at least half are seasonal residents. The tent sites were definitely not anything to write home about. Our site had not a bit of shade and on a 90 degree day that’s a big deal. Our site also had trash, tons of cigarette butts, and a huge DEAD FREAKING BIRD on it when we arrived. They also had two little girls (who seemed like wonderful little kids) working as janitors cleaning the bathrooms. Having grown up in the family business of running a campground myself, found this to be completely disgusting and unprofessional. Their map is also a bit deceptive as it makes it look like the tent sites are on the water, which they are not. There is a trail through the woods leading to a makeshift pallet “dock” leading to a swampy area. The folks a few sites over had dogs who barked constantly during our stay. We also had issues at the swimming area with children stealing my husband’s shoes and using them as water toys. Not a place I would recommend for that authentic Maine...
