Had a really nice time van camping here. We had site 19, which offered lots of space and privacy. All the sites seem to be spaced apart well, but some sites have less tree coverage than others, leaving them more exposed and they definitely vary in ground space and distance from the road. There are several walk-in sites available too. Potable water is available, and the vault toilets are well maintained. We saw the camp hosts (James and Kelly, they were awesome!) bike through a few times and even heard them reminding folks that the generators need to be turned off by quite time (10pm-8am), which we appreciated. Road has some bumpy spots throughout, so be mindful. The beach was nice and sandy, but it is smaller. Fortunately, only about 4 other groups were there when we went and had plenty of space. We will definitely come back and highly recommend for those interested in a semi primitive camping experience!

Clean semi private sites. Each has a picnic table and fire ring with a movable cooking grate. I saw 3 clean bathrooms and 3 wells for drinking water along the camp road. Camping hosts were friendly and answered all my questions. They rode by on bikes a few times a day. Lots of trails to explore. If you take the right forks, its a half mile hike to a nice beach. Lots of stars at night. Felt like I was way up north though didn't have to drive for hours to get here. I saw wild turkeys, deer, and lots of other birds and little critters. I will definitely camp here again.

Very nice campground. Close to the city and first come first serve, no reservations, so it's great for a quick get-away. The added photo is a nearby campsite, not a big deal, too each their own you know. Just makes sleeping in a tent feel a little more vulnerable with what's happening around the country.

I rather enjoyed my time here! We stayed for just two nights, but the weather was wonderful and the sites were a good distance apart.

Some good info in advance...

Sites are first come first serve. We were charged $15/night & two vehicles per camp site. Find your site and get back to the front billboard to submit payment and site info. Early birds get the worms here.

AWESOME HIKING TRAILS. These were one of my favorite hiking trails yet. Great for birdwatching or learning about new plants. I loved the rolling hills through woods and enjoyed the more natural trails. So much fun.

Roads are BUMPY. The roads are all dirt and because of the large amount of sand the water collects and made a bunch of interesting potholes.

Outhouses provided. No showers. They have scattered a few outhouses between sites but don't hesitate to bring your own toiletries!

Lots of people driving by. Because of the first come first serve don't be surprised if you have a few onlookers driving by scoping out your site.

There is a beach not far from the campgrounds you can walk or drive there (parking provided). The beach was pretty packed when we checked it out so we decided not to stay, but if you can get there early you can enjoy this...

Great spot for first-come, first serve camping on or near a beautiful lake. The accommodations are simple but present where needed, the sites are big, there are a ton of trails, beaches/easy access to the lake, it’s fairly quiet and the campground hosts were above par!! We noticed the northern lights were peaking from our site and were able to catch a spectacular show when we drive just a bit out for a clear shot north. IMO the best sites are 9 & 34, 34 is a walk in but it’s not too far and views are similar to 9. 10 is nice but one of the trails runs right through the back of the site which was very confusing for the doggo. Because this is a state forest campground, there’s no ice or firewood for sale but there are gas stations near by. Fall colors were incredible this...
