I found this place via HipCamp. I was expecting this beautiful back up site against the lake, what was advertised. The photos shown were from another campground and not even a part of where we stayed. It was nothing even close to what we had booked and the expectations were drastically disappointing.. This campsite has been horribly misrepresented and was worse condition than what was shown. When we got there there was huge a lack of care on maintenances of their facilities and landscaping. We came into a fire pit not even cleaned out. The ONLY reason for the three was because of the amazing staff & communication that was given by the Hipcamp host. They were amazing and did a great job! I would be willing come back to take professional spot photos for barter so you can have more accurate descriptions of the camping spots that are for bookings on Campendium and Hipcamp. Having other photos from other campsites is not a way to get good reviews and expectations of having that exact campsite was crucial for me to give a more positive review. I depend on alot of photos to determine if that is where I am going to stay or not where I book. It is never OK to misrepresent a campground for what it is not. Even the website is misrepresented. This campground was not the best but it was not the worst. Pricy for what the site had to offer. Staff lives on site. Many seasonal campers and kids driving around the golf carts all day. Pros: Right off from I-80, we found it super convenient to get to. Quiet time: 11pm-7 We did hear interstate noise the whole time. On our site -9 There was 4 feet of space from our RV door to a railroad tie. It was a drop and I belive it was there to prevent flooding. ( i did not find this to be safe at all. Luckily, We were careful and did not hurt ourselves. I found the spaces to be tighter than expected and smaller. Sites were not impressive but ours was dead on level with no blocks or leveling needed. That was a huge plus. This is the most hilliest campsite we have ever seen. Some spots take major leveling over others. We are experienced campers and have been cross country all over. The big hills were the big rigs and full hook ups had to go were it is super hilly. The hills had bad road ruts. I would not be wanting to take my regular RV up that road let alone a big rig. The pool was closed and not useable. The website also boasted of a water trampoline which also was not available nor seen on the lake. There was no “live music” which we enjoy. They did have a community campfire. They do have a cute lake to kayaks, canoe and fishihg and a beach to swim in . Small boat dock. This could be an amazing campground but it lacks upkeep, cleaning and basic landscaping /facility maintenance. We did see some trying to work on the pool. So much potential for this cute campground. Don’t go in with high expectations. It’s ok for those that are driving through the night or couple days stay. I would not enjoy staying more than 3 nights just due to the noise from the interstate. Quietness is a huge plus for me. I also included photos what was advertised as my booking to what we got. Please use my drone photos for your website and other postings. You are welcome to use them. It is never ok to use photos from another campground that does not even come near to what I booked.

We made a reservation at this campground to spend a weekend with our grandkids because of the advertised pool, playground, basketball court, etc. We have stayed here approximately 6 years ago and the pool was the best part of the stay. So when we booked, we looked at the map to choose our campsite in correlation with the pool. Upon arrival, we found that the pool was under construction, which was the main reason we booked. We did not notice that way down on the website, over the pic We went to talk with management and were told they were not available but they took our name and contact information and would get back to us. Management did not respond to our request to talk while we were there. We tried 2 more times to contact management, with no response. The counter staff told us we could take the kids swimming in the lake, which normally would be great but the beach was absolutely covered in duck and goose poop, everywhere. If you are going to advertise a swim beach, you need to clear it of feces. There were kids sitting in the sand on the edge of the water playing with sand toys in sand covered with poop. The playground is full of splintered and run down equipment. Most the the equipment is on hard ground, grass or dirt so if someone falls - no soft landing. The basketball court has one broken hoop that leans at a 30 degree angle. I am all for kids having fun, that's what camping is about. But, for the 2 days we stayed at Sleepy Hollow, it was unattended young kids recklessly driving around the campground in golf carts. Sometimes 6 or 8 kids in a cart, hanging off the back or sides. Our campsite was only a few feet from the road so all day long, up until almost 11 pm, cart after cart of kids speeding past our site. Lastly, a good portion of the campsite is built on a hill. The roads must have washed from heavy rains and they didn't bother to fill in the large gullies of gravel that washed away. Other campers had to try to navigate over the large trenches in order to pull into their sites. We had only inches to navigate our camper when pulling out. One wrong move and our tires would have been stuck in a 12" deep trench. For the $75/night it cost us to camp here, I expected way better. Poor management. Poor upkeep. Poor oversight. We made the best of it because of our grandkids but never again. We will not return. **As an update to this review. The manager, Stephanie called me - from a restricted number. She called to say there was a power outage. When I told her we checked out yesterday (as per our reservations) she mentioned she saw our 2 star review. When she asked why I was unhappy and I tried to explain, she argued with me and had a ton of excuses as to why things were not as advertised, she argued with me about why she had not gotten back to me and then proceeded to hang up the phone on me. Poor way of doing business, she apparently doesn't care about customer service. After the phone call with management, I have revised my review to one star instead of 2. She was rude, argumentative and awful.

Honest review. After reading the previous reviews I was nervous about our stay but you have to understand it's a campground. It does have some work that needs to be done, and it would be extremely helpful to have photos of each site so you know what site you are getting. All full hook up sites are a steep hill. We were on site 55 which was on the top of the hill (not ideal with family staying down at the bottom of the hill) our site had lots of grass but a steep incline for wanting to sit in chairs or stand. It was exhausting towards the end of our stay. Again, we were lucky with our site, but we noticed that a lot of sites had no space or a small amount of grass. Two members of our family got Cabin 1 and Cabin 3. Each cabin had ac and a mini fridge. There was water outside that you could use. It was a far walk to the bathrooms, and they should really have something more accessible for them. We had our grandparents with us, and having to walk there in the night made us nervous for them. It was dark back there as well. Some solar lights for a path to get to the road would be great. There was all kinds of stuff they could trip over. The kids enjoyed the beach, it was a nice area. The pool was still closed. That should be listed on the website so guest can decide if that is a deal breaker for them since there aren't refunds on reservations. Shower house definitely needs some work. But I had warm water and that's all I needed. Our dogs enjoyed the dog park, especially since there isn't much grass at campsites. They were able to go run off their energy. On the drive home, we did say we would go back, but now we know what sites to book. It's pricey for the type of sites you get.

We (my 5 sisters, my niece and myself) have been coming to this campground with our families for over 8 years. Our kids have grown up spending 4th of July, Halloween in September, and various other weekends here. Last winter the park was taken over by new owners. After this 4th of July weekend, none of us will be going back.

To sum up some of the issues with the new management...

  1. THE BUGS!!! The bugs were terrible at all 7 of our sites. In fact, one of my sisters always rents the cabin near the tent spaces, which was HORRIFYINGLY INFESTED with earwigs. She went to fill her water bottle up at the outside spigot and there were earwigs in her bottle because they had even been in the plumbing. They were at ALL of the sites. The flies were worse than I have EVER seen them ANYWHERE! It was like we were on a hog farm! This is strange, because we would always marvel over how amazing it is that there is never so much as mosquitos bugging you at night. That is no longer the case.

  2. The bathrooms.... Another thing we loved about Sleepy Hollow was the cleanliness. They had the cleanest bathrooms and showers around. This year there was an inch or more of standing (GROSS) water in the showers every time you went in, which is completely disgusting.

  3. The fun activities... The volleyball games, bags tournaments, etc have long been enjoyed by our family. The teenagers did play volleyball this year, but not without paying for a spot. The new owners have decided to charge for what used to be free activities. Not a huge amount, but still, it's the thought. They didn't even do the bags tournament at all. They had horsehoes instead.

  4. The laid back atmosphere... As I said, we've been coming here for years. Our kids have never had any run-ins with managers/employees at all. This year, both kids AND adults were harrassed by the owners daily. One of my sisters had rented a golf cart from the office (for $50/day). They have a list of rules, which were ALL followed. Still, one of the owners stopped my 19 year old niece, who was driving, her boyfriend, and one of my nephews, at the bathrooms, because her boyfriend was standing on the back of the cart, rather than sitting. I do not mean standing on the seat. He was standing where your feet go, and holding on. Then they would not let my niece drive the golfcart back to our camp site, claiming that she was not authorized to drive it. The kids walked back to the camp site and filled us in. My sister, who rented the cart, went down to find out what happened, skeptical that they had been kicked off for "no reason". She was informed, VERY rudely by the owner that, and I quote, "You were TOLD when you rented the cart that ONLY YOU could drive it." To which my sister responded that no, she was not told that. That she had read all of the rules, and that it clearly stated that anyone driving the cart must be over 16 years old, with a valid drivers license. The owners response was, "Then I guess I will have to ammend the rules."

They stopped another one of my sisters, who had brought their own golfcart, and told her she was driving too fast, that the speed limit is 10mph. Which is great, but this is an old, standard golf cart... it isn't even possible to go 15...So the if they were over, it would have been by 1 or 2 mph, which is impossible to know without a radar gun.

That's just 2 examples. There is a length limit on reviews, or I would go on.

  1. The price... This place has always been higher, per night, than most others, but it was always worth it to us. Now they have added on the pay to play activites, previously mentioned, you also have to pay to bring your own golfcart, and when my Mom's husband's son and daughter-in-law stopped by for AN HOUR to say hi and chat, they had to pay a fee just to drive in to see us. And that was just at our site, I am not referring to using the pool or partaking in activities.

The whole weekend was a bust, compared to our usual experience here. These owners have ruined this place in less...
