I stayed at the Best Western in Paducah, KY on Husband Rd on Thursday night, April 18th. We checked in at 11 pm and were asleep by midnight. At 1:20 AM my wife and I heard a jiggle at the door and then an audible "Beep" which is the sound of the door unlocking. The door was dead bolted and chained. As I looked up,the light from the hallway poured into the room, meaning the deadbolt disengaged and the door physically opened up. The chain stopped the door from opening any further. I called out "Hello" and the door shut. I got out of bed, put on pants and went to the hallway to see no one. I was in room 221 and saw that there was a camera a couple doors down from my room. I went down to the front desk and told the attendant that someone had just entered my room and he said that was not possible, as no one else has a key. I told him someone must have a master key card or a room service key and he told me that wasn't possible. He is of some Indian descent, all workers there were, and barely understood what I was saying. I said I wanted to know who just tried to get into my room, and I wanted to review the video footage. He said that the footage was kept off site and that we couldn't review the footage until the morning. I told him I feared for the safety of my family and he acted as if he could not care any less. He said he couldn't review the footage until 9 am. I said we were on our way to Atlanta and would be gone by 8 am. I told him that I would be back at 7 am to review the footage and if he didn't help me then I would get the authorities involved. I also told him I would do whatever necessary to protect my family and that if someone else tried to get into my room it would be a bad night for everyone. Needless to say I didn't get back to sleep after that. At 7 am, I went down to talk to him to review the footage. He basically acted as if we didn't have that very same conversation 6 hours earlier. He told me someone would be in by 12:30 to review the footage. I told him I was going to call the police. He didn't care. He told me that someone would be in at 12:30, that they would review the footage, and that someone would call me back that afternoon. I called the police, but they said since no one was harmed and nothing was taken they could not file a report. No one called me that afternoon. I called on Monday and was told that the owners had not reviewed the footage yet, and that someone would call me. No one has contacted me yet as of almost a week later.
The facility is fine. The rooms were comfortable and clean, the breakfast was good. I have no complaints about the hotel itself, but when a random stranger walks INTO your room in the middle of the night that is a big red flag for me. I have no idea who they were or what they were doing, but it was not just some random guy that got the wrong room, because whoever it was, they had a KEY that UNLOCKED my door. And the staff there made NO attempt to find out who the person was, offer me any kind of refund, or contact me since. Will not be back to a Best Western any time soon.
FOLLOW UP: It has been 2 months since this happened. The manager left a response that the matter would be investigated and also sent me an email saying the same. NO FURTHER CONTACT. I've emailed and called several times since to try to see if they were able to find out who tried to enter my hotel room and no response or reply. They insist that my safety is a priority, yet it is apparent that that is far...
Read moreOut of all the surrounding hotels this had some relatively high reviews. Decided to stay the night. For me the visit was good there were some disappointments.
The pool is outdoor - they have yet to clean it so couldn't use it. The AC in the lobby is not on (because the owners are Indian) thought it was weird - I'm Indian and I would prefer it to be on. Breakfast is not stuff from the dollar store (as another review stated) but it is very limited. For example an apple is cut and saran wrapped - why would you do this? especially in a covid era.
For the wife it was horrible. Bed bugs all over her. She didn't know what they were and was freaking out. (She had slept with the kid in a different bed). She thought they were ticks and was worried about lyme disease.
She was also not happy with managements response: lack of empathy, attitude, and doubt. Luckily we had pics (taken in the bathroom since the kid was sleeping at 5am and we needed light) so then the manager said: this is in the bathroom, bedbugs are not in the bathroom.
Summary Highlighted in Chronological Order: no pool no elevator (just not installed in building) no ac in lobby - highlighting maybe management is taking short cuts elsewhere to save money (in this industry you have to worry about sheets not being washed after sex or just nasty people using them - after all anyone with some money can get the room you were in) *very nice evening manager - he was doing a lot of damage control hence we didn't see the warning signs and stayed the night very limited breakfast (apple, donut, yogurt, maybe missing 2 more items) reviews also have stories of other people having horrible experiences bed bugs and trauma fear of brining bed bugs to our home an indian manager in the am - assuming owner since a little kid went up to her while she was at work. she seemed tired - not built for customer service. I work in customer service and am aware it can be draining when you deal with upset people. my wife was polite but just wanted to leave the area. she wanted to leave right away after the manager doubted bedbug story
Tips: people staying on 1st floor seemed to have a good visit we were in 218, another user had left a horrible review about 208 - so the younger people get put on second floor. if you have to stay stay on the first floor honestly its not hotels fault - they could have managed it better though. someone stayed in a cheap place got bed bugs went here didn't tell staff and we got it - hence the reason we told the staff ....it could be their fault as they didn't do proper cleaning after the last visit its expensive but doesn't have the name assigned to it (hilton holiday inn etc) we made the mistake of going with $ - next time we will also go with name (2nd night we went to hilton garden inn in indiana - had a wonderful experience) see google reviews great hotels 15m further away (thought this was +100$ and 3 start so we would be safe - that was...
Read moreFirst the good: Shower was nice and hot. Shower rod curved out giving lots of room to move in the shower. Shower head was high on the wall. Good water pressure. Bathroom was clean. All the bed linens and towels looked, felt and smelled fresh and clean. Pillows were fluffy and plentiful. Breakfast was pretty good... all the usual -cereal, yogurt, toast, biscuits, sausage, waffle maker, etc. Coffee was good too. It was quiet and dark. We both slept good. Staff was very nice, especially the lady making and setting out breakfast in the morning. Now for the not so good: I think the hotel has problems with humidity and moisture. They had multiple dehumidifiers in the hallways and our room felt very damp. You can tell someone had smoked in our room even though it was a non-smoking room. There were cigarette burn marks in the carpet and on the toilet seat. Our room smelled like urine and stale cigarettes. The wall had drippy, sticky looking gunk spilled on it by the trash can that got missed during a cleaning, carpet had stains in lots of places and felt sticky. The walls had been patched and repainted a slightly off color so you can see where all the patches were made. Ceiling had water damage that had been repaired. The maintenance guy must have a problem matching paint colors because there was a patch spot in the hallway too that was a completely different orange color painted on a light colored wall. The furniture had been broken and then someone tried to repair it but it looks pretty bad... bottom drawer of dresser won't even close. The chair in the corner of the room had two big stains in the seat (gross) and a cigarette burn or a tear/rip on the armrest. The room was painted very dark colors and felt dingy and dated. And the lights weren't strong enough to fully illuminate the room at night.Which may be done on purpose because we saw even more stains and dirt the next morning when the sunlight was brightening the room for us. It would have felt more open, clean and inviting if it was painted brighter in there and had better lighting. The whole room just needed a good carpet shampooing and better paint job and would have been so much better. For $119 I thought it would have been slightly better. Maybe we were just unlucky and got a not...
