This property is amazing and cabins are awesome and front desk staff very friendly but the owners, WOW!
I went with my man there for what was to be four nights with his extended family. We had four cabins total and three dogs. My dog (the problem) had just been rescued at 10 years old and lame, had to be carried into and out of cabin because of his bad leg. He's a boxer btw.
So we are there less than an hour, get car unloaded and walk about the property a bit while waiting on the family to arrive. Dog with us whole time. We go back to cabin and sit on futon and it's wet. So my man goes to office and tells them. They say owner has to take care of it and she will be back later. No problem. She comes back and down to the cabin and that's when the nightmare starts. Keep in mind I'm a college educated 50 year old professional lady.
The first thing this lady says is "it's pee and it was either your dog or one of you." "I vacuumed in here earlier and know it was good." "I don't want this vacation to cost you thousands." And then asks about the dog. At this point I tell her I've had him two weeks and he's a rescue etc. she then tells us that we will have to kennel him or board him while we are there. She loans us a kennel. We spend the night.
We wake pack and go to pay the damages for the futon ($250) and she inspects the cabin to make sure that he didn't have anymore accidents and charge us for replacing the carpet. We check out fine.
Now since cabin was prepaid we gave keys to family and leave. We go to other cabin and have a wonderful experience (check out that review). Upon our return home we talk with family and find out that "the wicked witch of the north" continued to hassle them about dogs and never replaced futon.
Now I'm not angry that the dog was blamed or that we paid for damages. What it is is the way the lady handled herself and how she treated me. I felt like I was in trouble from my mother. Her accusations of one of us urinating on the futon was just utterly ridiculous and uncalled for. Her angry and condescending manor is appalling and I'll be surprised if she lasts long in this line of work. It's my understanding she's a recent new owner.
I would go anywhere else but here just because of her lack of...
Read moreEDIT: I had to go ahead and put the fifth star on there. No business has ever replied so well, and I'll also concede that the extra cost is worth the river front aspect, AMAZING mattresses, and being on the side of town closer to Wolf Creek Ski area. So the difference in cost really balances out. One more note to make, as far as cabin style lodging like this, Fireside is the best in Pagosa overall.
Nice place, good quality amenities, and they provide quite a bit to lodgers for it being cabins. Staff is personable, informative, knowledgeable, and efficient (it's one thing to be fast, it's another to be fast while completing things fully and correctly, and I wholly appreciated the staffs' ability to operate with top marks in friendliness and efficiency in their service).
The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is: They seem to be a major stickler about making sure customers/lodgers keep the cabins in a state of immaculate cleanliness, more than a couple rules about which towels can be used for what, and if you have your dog with you, make sure it's super well behaved, trained, and house broken. There are a lot of potential "incidentals" and fees that you can accrue according to the rule sheets they have.
Personally, I did NOT get charged anything additional and no major issues or clashes with the staff with regards to the "cons" I mentioned. However, since places like Club Wyndham there in Pagosa Springs offers at least 1 & 2 bdrm condos and apartments for ~$40-$100 LESS per night, includes things like a washer/dryer in the unit, and doesn't dictate any rules about towel usage, the best I can award this place is 4 stars. That being said, I did enjoy my stay, and will keep it as a solid fall-back option in the future if I can't find other lodging that I would marginally prefer over Fireside.
Thanks to all the staff that was there during my stay (1/21-1/23), you were all wonderful and it was really hard to not give 5 stars because of the quality of your service along with the kindness and expedient efficiency which you...
Read moreThe staff here are super friendly and accommodating. They were so patient and helpful even when I called multiple times to adjust our number of cabins and reservation dates.
The cabins were clean, comfortable, and well equipped with plenty of linens and pillows. Every day the staff left a fresh bag of towels on our porch. The grounds are beautiful and well kept, ideally situated on the San Juan River. The fire pit has plenty of chairs and it is kept full of fresh wood which is a nice touch. There is plenty of space for kids to run and play and the shelter next to the fire pit has outdoor game supplies like a football, soccer ball, horse shoes, and ladder ball. The hot tub is centrally located and kept sheltered under a charming open air cabin.
I especially love their welcoming attitude toward pets. Our party had 2 dogs and they each received a generous doggie bag filled with treats, blankets, and other supplies. They even have a couple of pet areas supplied with waste bags and trash cans. We appreciated the ability to purchase discounted tickets to the Hot Springs, and Fireside Inn provided us with special towels for our excursion. The only to downfalls to speak of were lack of a dishwasher and single bowl sink made it challenging to wash dishes for a big crew, and the wifi gets spotty in the evening.
Overall we had an outstanding time here and will make this our choice destination when visiting...
