For our 20th anniversary my wife and I headed west! Spontaneous adventure to the Grand Canyon and stopped in Amarillo. Found this place online so we booked it. I think there were only one other car on the grounds.
18 minutes from Palo Duro Canyon (and Sad Monkey which is a must visit), and about 12 minutes from The Big Texan. It’s conveniently nestled in a quiet area secluded from the city which was nice. So the location was perfect!
Rooms. I can only answer for one we stayed in. So please only evaluate this for the “Pinion”. Warning- Don’t book the Pinion.
Really dated, very dusty inside, super dark decor with very little amenities. No soap or shampoo. Limited towels. Small fridge… oh, and NO SHOWER! So we had to get cleaned up in a bathtub that took 20 minutes to fill once because the warm water trickled in. If you wanted a cold bath, it was the perfect tub for you! That was super annoying. And there wasn’t any previous notice of, “hey, this only has a bathtub, will that accommodate your physical needs”? Because I would have tried a different room or found a different place to stay.
Bed and Breakfasts should really focus on accommodations and needs. This had neither. It said they gave a breakfast, but was it to be a surprise? No idea what it was so we left early.
Other disappointments. We couldn’t see stars because the property is canopied by trees. The “private” hot tub is surrounded by a 3 or 4 ft fence, so when you go to get into it, it’s no longer private. On top of that, when I took the cover off I couldn’t see the bottom because it was cloudy (no bubbles rolling at this point) so I was like nope. I put the lid back on.
$250+ a night should feel a lot more different than that. I was given more attention at the Staybridge Hotel and it was $100 cheaper.
Then we stayed at a B&B in Williams AZ that knocked my socks off.
Look. Spend a little more time informing guests during the initial phone call, give a little more pampering, and communicate better with respect to amenities and food options. Or just basic expectations.
This place has potential. It needs a shower in the Pinion for sure! I wish you luck in your future. Needs to be cleaner, brighter, not so dark IMO. Some people...
Read moreStarlight Canyon is like a breath of fresh air with beautiful giant trees covered in light sucluded in it's on little tucked away piece of land located next door to the Palisades. But when you are there it feels like you are hundreds of miles away. The owners Liz & Nate are amazing people. With three beautiful daughter of their own and starting Amarillo's first true locally brewed beer and it is called Amarillo's beer, they take care of you when you have your stay and they do everything they can to make sure you are spoiled and that your stay is special. This is the perfect place to escape with your partner for a romantic evening, when you would love to take them out of town but it never fits the schedule or is to expensive, then this is your answer and blessing. With private cabins, whirlpool tubs, hot tubs on the patio, candle light and jazz playing as you enter your room, fireplaces, beautiful grounds and Lone star Bar and grill is just a short drive away if you want take out. You can add packages like massage, romance package, outdoor candle light dinner for two under the moonlight and more! You are treated in the morning with a gourmet hit cooked meal by the chef Nate and it I'd amazing. Now for weddings this venue is every girls dream and at a fraction of the cost of most other places in Amarillo. You can also have family reunion, baby shower, or just rent for the night. So if you are looking for an amazing place to get away. or treat your loced one to a romantic night, or just stay some where that feels like home but with way more amenities and cost about as much as your higher end hotel the look no further this is the hidden gem of Amarillo and I refer Starlight Canyon any...
Read moreThis is a hidden gem just south of Amarillo. The place feels like a secret summer camp for adults. The cabins are small and cozy. Kind of like efficiency apartments with different themes in each one. They offer various packages like massages, dinners, etc. Nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life with your special someone. Each cabin has it's own private hot tub. The location is in a canyon and it has a gated entrance so it's very secluded. They have a beautiful area where weddings are hosted. The whole area is very green and lush like an oasis in the middle of the west Texas plains. The units have a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee pots some have fireplaces. The units have DVD players and DirecTV. The beds are queen size which is a little disappointing but it works for the cabins. If you want you can order in a dinner from the host. If you feel up for it you can drive into town and have dinner too. It's about 15 miles away from most restaurants. So you can have a night on the town and return to a romantic evening in the hot tub. The units are usually clean and smell good lots of romantic lighting too. The idea is romantic getaway but would be perfect for a weary Traveller who wants to rest and recharge. So far I have been here twice and enjoyed each stay. The only complaint I have so far is the floor on my second stay was not vacuumed there was some popcorn left from previous guests near the couch. Definitely recommend this place highly. I only fear if it becomes too popular I will not be able to...
