A hidden gem. This was our first visit to Faver-Dykes and we spent 3 glorious days camping here. It's right off I95 (literally), so when we first saw the road immediately after exiting the highway, all we could think was "we're going to hear highway noise/ambient light all night!" We couldnt have been more wrong! The long dirt road winding to Faver-Dykes is like going back in time, nestled in a canopy of Oaks and magnolias. There is no cell reception, so you feel cut off from the real world--a beautiful disconnect from technology! The camping is at the very end of the dirt road, right after the boat launch. It's a small park, less than 30 sites, but each is perfectly leveled, raked clean with a fire ring, water and electric hookups. The bathhouse is exceptionally nice: looks to be brand new, with showers and toilets. The building itself is well lit with motion sensor lights (so at night the park is pitch black!) and centrally located for all campsites. Near the bathhouse, exiting the campground is the dump station.

The roads are all a sugary sand so expect to sweep your camper out frequently--there is NO escaping the sand. But I will warn you--with the sand comes TICKS,and I mean LOTS OF TICKS!!! Within the first hour of setting up our campsite, we had killed at least 30 crawling on us. I understand its Florida, but nothing prepared me for that! So first thing Saturday morning warrantied a trip to Walmart to load up on extra bug spray and even that didnt deter the little buggers, they were everywhere--even worse than mosquitos! So prepare yourselves and your pets. Wear lots of DEET, do tick checks religiously and be a responsible pet owner and make sure your pet is on an excellent flea/tick/heartworm preventative. It was so cathartic to just sit and watch the wind move thru the top of the trees during the day, just enjoying the sounds of nature. As I mentioned before, cell service is absolutely nil, unless you have a wifi booster. Do not expect to get or receive any signal if you have TMobile.

The wildlife we experienced around our campfire nightly was a treat: squirrels, deer, armadillos, raccoons and possums. Like with any animals, be sure to secure coolers, grills and expect visitors if you accidentally leave out any food items. We also heard coyotes. The boat launch is within walking distance and kayaks and canoes can be rented however be warned, the man camping next to us had an encounter with a friendly 10' gator and that was enough of a deterrent for him not to venture out in his kayak alone again!

The rangers make regular visits thru the park and it's a very quiet campground. We thoroughly enjoyed this Florida gem and we look forward to returning again and again for a battery recharge. Love...

This is a park we will never come back to. The road into the park is in terrible condition potholes narrow and a single lane bridge in a two lane area. If you're coming in with a tow vehicle and someone's coming out with a tow vehicle, one of you is going to have to unhook and back up. Making it worse the approach to the bridge is blind around the corner from both sides. Once you're able to see the full bridge, if there's a vehicle coming the other way, you would have to back up.

The shower facilities were very clean but the standard shower stalls were very very small and dangerous because of a trench in the floor. This drain trench is not covered and very close to where you have to stand. The tile edge is unfinished (sharp) in the trenches deep enough to twist your ankle.

We stayed at other Florida State Parks during our visit and found Lake Louisa and Suwannee River State Park to be very nice. Faver-Dykes state park is...

Very peaceful and quiet. Sites are large and clean. The campground is at the end of a long dirt road. They say 2 miles but it seems much longer. Passed a very nice picnic area and boat ramp. The bathrooms are well maintained and very clean. There are 4 ADA / Handicapped campsites that are large concrete pads with concrete walkways to the bathrooms and showers. Park Ranger was very polite and helpful. Gave this park only 4 stars because they only have water and electricity at the sites. No sewer so there is an extra step of using the dump station. Also the very long dirt/sand roadway to access the park. I fully understand leaving everything as natural as possible but if not blacktop they could still put gravel or some other hard surface to make a smoother ride. On another positive note, the entire facility has a very private feel. Lots of nature. It's well worth the travel to experience the...

Pleasantly surprised. All the sites have tons of privacy and electric + water hookups. Since it's primarily an RV site, the showers and bathrooms are all yours! Tent camping is easy here and while you could fit 3 cars, their rules states 2 cars, 2 tents and 8 people max (better bring big tents!). There are 2 trails and a large picnic plus boat ramp sites. Going for a run from campsite to entrance and back is just over 4 miles. Every site has a fire ring and grill cover but we noticed some sites have a standing grill instead. The electric also has 15A standard plug so you can charge your electronics if you're camping. Unusually high tick activity in July so spray yourself, wear protective clothing and a hat. Everyone was friendly and its just off the highway but you feel very secluded. You're also just 15m away from St. Augustine Beach.
