Upper Pacifico camp is in need of some maintenance this year. The road is closed due to a number of washouts, however, the campground remains open for walk-ins. the garbage hasn’t been removed and there are a number of trees down in the area. Additionally, it looks like a meteor fell through the roof of the outhouse though the road is closed, I’m quite surprised that the forest service hasn’t done anything g to maintain this site especially as it’s directly behind mill creek summit station. If you’re riding your bike up, there’s a ton of sand on the road. Totally passable but a bit treacherous if you’re on skinny tires. The views are epic, temps are lower than the valley below and when we went there was no one else up there. Bring plenty of water- more than you think you’ll need. There’s water at mill creek station in the parking area if you need to fill up before heading up.

Our first off road experience. This review is from October 10. It was full of hunters. You have to go up a one way road for about 40-45 minutes. It's very steep and you have to give right of way for people coming down. I highly recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle but it's doable without (we did it on a Nissan Pathfinder 2 wheel drive). It does get very cold. Unlike the reviews have said it was very populated at the top (many people in cameo). We met police along the way and they asked if we were hunters, so maybe hunting season ? We mostly went there to your the beautiful roads and see the top of the camp grounds. There is a trash, a potty and some benches/seats. First come first serve.

This is a small campground with fire pits, picnic tables, and a vault toilet. High clearance vehicles are a must to drive into this area. There’s no fee for camping but every vehicle will need an adventure pass. There are excellent views but do not expect blackout conditions at night as Palmdale is easily visible. It does get pretty windy. It was very quiet during our stay, but the camp caretaker said there can be groups that like to party through the night. No water so bring your own!

Climb your way up to the pines and to this prominent peak, and you won’t be disappointed. I did the hike from the less popular route, which involves driving up Angeles Crest and turning off to drive past campgrounds and start the hike at Alder Saddle. It was a 9-mile hike round trip, and unfortunately I hadn’t prepared to camp. With seeing how nice the camp spots are as well as the variety of them, and the beauty of the area near the peak...there’s no doubt I’m coming back soon...
