Camped here during a visit to the French Lick Resort. Unique opportunity to sleep in a teepee. An oversized outdoor chess board was cool. The owner's dogs were friendly and would come visit everyday. Friendly until I started my motorcycle and came close to getting bit. Also the gravel drive with washed out areas was tricky for motorcycles. Proximity to town is close. Coming back to the campground after the concert is less than ideal with narrow, unmarked and dark roads. Those traveling on two wheels will need to make a practice run during the daylight. You will need to pack in food and drinks as the availability on site is non-existent, we were able to find one pizza place that delivered. The chance to stay in a teepee alone is worth the trip. Bathroom / Shower facilities are antiquated but adequate and clean. Don't forget the bug spray.

I love this campground! I visited on a hot weekend in July with my boyfriend. We opted for the camp site with electricity. It was the perfect amount of space for us, had a plug at the edge of the space, a picnic table, and fire pit. It was quiet the weekend we visited and we were one of the few campers there. The campground itself was well maintained and had several tipis and other structures on site. The place had a lot of charm and soul that made me enjoy my stay even more. It's close by to various hiking options as well as amenities of French Lick bars, restaurants, and casino. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

We’ve been coming here for a couple years now- and I will never ever camp anywhere else- It’s small- quaint- and peaceful- whether you “camp” or get one of the cool lodges- ( Tipi- wagon- or Crockett shack( Sunset lodge) it’s an experience you’ll love - I went down for the sole purpose of star watching - and I was not at all disappointed- and in Oct they have the Halloween scare - and just to listen to it all from lodge - was sooooo awesome-cast a line in the pond- lay back and relax- the “bath house” has always been impressive to me- just a great place to relax- trail walk- explore -

Where to start to help people in the future ......

We had 1 night in the "sealed" wagon with our grandkids. After a 4 hour drive, we arrived at 4pm.

When you turn into the entrance (right side), be careful - because it has high weeds that hide a huge dip and large rocks. I now have bumper damaged.

We started to unpack, but we had to clean the inside of the wagon first. Previous people had to leave at 12, and we arrived at 4, but the tabletop and floors were filthy.

We know you're outside, and ticks and other creatures are expected (we camp often), but as we started a fire, the ticks were literally dropping out of the trees onto us. There is no way it's being treated enough, if it's that bad.

We went to figure out how to block the windows so people could not see right inside at night and to our surprise.... a huge spider was on the outside canvas by the window. (See pic)

Yes, we get it..... you're outside, and we can live with it, but as I look underneath, there are 6 more ......just as BIG.

As I looked closer, I noticed the homemade wagon was "not" sealed as stated.

There is a 4 inch gap all the way down BOTH sides that go right INSIDE the sleeping area. There is no way we can stay after that.

My son and I went to the house where the owner lives and talked to him. He said that he sprays some good stuff that kills ticks and spiders for 3 months. (If that is the case and it's the beginning of June, how are they so prevalent)

We asked for a refund, and we will load back up again and drive all the way home.

I told him that we will NOT leave a review (because we are not a Karen and we don't do reviews) he said he will refund our money or we can pack up and move to a different room

We packed up and started the long drive home.

We had only 4 hours there, not included unloading/loading.

A few days later, we asked about our refund, and he said that only $50 would be returned (see attached), and that is why we decided to leave a review

The place has some great potential but needs some TLC, as other posts clearly have...

My sister and I had been wanting to get away for a few days and she had mentioned previously that she would love to camp in a teepee. I did some internet searching and found Sleeping Bear Retreat in French Lick, Indiana. The grounds are very nice and it is peaceful and quiet. The teepees are on wooden platforms and come supplied with heavy duty cots. There is a fire pit outside each teepee and, in the winter, there are wood burning stoves available. The restrooms and the best! I was worried about using the usual camping restroom facilities -- that is, sitting on a wooden board with a hole in it, dangling precariously over, well, you know. There were 3 private restrooms available and each had a flushing toilet and a shower with hot water. The owners live on the property, but are at the end of the gravel road, so not right on top of you. The first night we were there (which was a Sunday), we were the only people in the campground. Other campers arrived the next day and they also hosted a paintball tournament.||||All in all, we very much enjoyed our time at Sleeping Bear Retreat and hope to...
