Growing up going to Edgewood, and having been to other resorts in the northern MN area, the cabins here are definitely more a place to rent versus the entire property being a resort like it used to be. Many of the cabins are privately owned now, which is fine, but it's difficult to distinguish what is for use by renters and what is not. For instance, some owners have kayaks, and when we first arrived, we had to determine if that was for our use. It wasn't. The very limited resort ones were no where near the beach and were first come first serve.||||Also, resorts typically provide activities throughout the week for guests to enjoy if they choose. This may include minnow races or sand castle contests for kids, for instance. Edgewood does not do this anymore. Also, resorts typically have an area where you can check out games and rec equipment, such as board games and horse shoes. Edgewood does not.||||Finally, resorts typically have owners who are readily available and responsive should you need something, such as gas for your boat or an item for your cabin. Edgewood does not. The owner is nice, but not easy to locate, and the voicemail box was full when a few in our party called to ask a question. Texting seems the best way to communicate, such a when we needed gas or questions on our cabin.||||Also, we had reserved a fishing boat/motor when booking our cabin, and re-confirmed this a few weeks prior to arrival. We had no boat when we arrived, and didn't until the afternoon of our second day. ||||Lastly, the website for Edgewood is out of date at this time, not appearing to be updated since 2014. On there, it says they have a Waver Rave trampoline. They do not anymore. The only Hyrdro bike we saw was broken. Wood is not included with fire pits anymore (but available for purchase).||||With all this said, the cabin we stayed in was fine and comfortable, and what most expect at any cabin at a "resort" in northern MN--equipped with what you need. Long Lake continues to be stunning and good for fishing. Having stayed several places, I would say this is a place to rent a cabin, not a resort with...
Read moreFamily of 30 rented 3 of the lakefront houses for a week. (Note... there is a lakefront house that sleeps 35, but it was booked our week. Shout out to those Dakota folks who fished soooo much better than us!) ||||Homes were clean, well appointed, and decorated in a "north woods" style. The largest house in our group had a deck big enough to accommodate all of us for eating each night. Property gave us plenty of room to spread out and play the myriad of games (spike ball, boccie, kubb) that our family is into. Resort provided kayaks, hydro bikes, and paddle boards. Sandy beach and floaty-mat completed the picture. ||||Gorgeous lake. Very clean, deep, and clear water. Super quiet. Hardly any traffic. Practically had the lake to ourselves most days and we were there last week of July! This is my 3rd reunion trip to a MN lake and this was by far my favorite lake. Great fishing. Perfect for swimming or water skiing. Resort provided us a dock for our boat. ||||Property is super close to town and that was nice. 2 major grocery stores, a big liquor store, + a Walmart. (At the last family reunion we had to drive 40 minutes to get food or beer... no bueno!) Park Rapids is a cute town with a movie theater, restaurants, clothing stores, summer stock theater, and candy shops. Also close to Itasca State Park and Heartland State Trail for biking. Pretty much the perfect location. ||||Finally, the hosts could not have been more accommodating. Family members rotated in and out and the hosts were very gracious about providing us with new bed linens each time. Also, the matriarch and patriarch of our family, both well into their 90's, struggled a bit to navigate the property and reach the beach and pontoon boat. The hosts provided us with a golf cart to get my in laws around. ||||Thank you Ann and family. It was an amazing family reunion. We hope to be back. Oh... BTW... we heard that we will be 31 next time. Our family is increasing with the birth of a baby due January 2020. Beautiful place to get such...
Read moreWe rented cabin 3, which has 2 queens and a bunk room with two single over doubles. The kitchen, dining, living room and 1 queen and a bath are on the first floor. The second floor has another living room (no TV) and the other queen, a bunk room and a bath. I found the upstairs living room a quiet place to read when everyone was chatting downstairs. The furniture was craftsman style in very good shape. This is a housekeeping cabin, so you have to bring whatever you need. Since we rented for a week, we did come mostly prepared. A dock was provided for the boat we brought. Long Lake is a great fishing lake. The beach is nice, without vegetation and there is a small playground for kids. This is a place to just be as much as to do. If we were looking for a place for a reunion or company offsite, we would certainly consider one of the larger cabins. One of the nice thing about this resort is how close it is to town, less than 10 minutes to grocery stores and the charming downtown of Park Rapids, with restaurants and fun shops. The resort is under new management and we found them responsive when we...
