EV owners, do NOT stay at Mantrap Lodge!
If I were driving an ICE vehicle, this would receive 3.5 stars instead of one star from me. The place is ok. It has a nice pool and play area for kids. There's some sand on the beach for small kids to play in, but the lake part of the beach is very mucky and not suitable for swimming. There was a giant hornets' in one of the eves of the cabin that the owners refused to deal with. Our cabin was nice enough, expect that the mattresses on all the beds I tried were downright terrible and lead to poor sleep. This definitely had an adverse effect on our stay.
However, the real deal-breaker for me was the resort's stance on EV charging. When I arrived, I plugged my car into a typical NEMA 5-15 outlet on the exterior of the cabin to trickle charge. Those with EVs know that the wattage draw while charging like this is identical to a typical hair dryer or vacuum, and the wattage draw is significantly less than any one of the 3-4 window AC units that were running continuously in the cabin to keep the humidity down. However, one of the owners noticed my car plugged in and told me the resort isn't set up for that, so I should stop charging immediately. I explained the hair dryer / vacuum wattage draw thing, and, even though our rental agreement allowed us full use of the cabin's utilities, he only agreed to let me charge if I paid an additional $11/day "boat slip" fee. I paid the fee while there, since I was in no mood to argue contract law on my vacation. But considering that I used $2-3 of electricity at most and that we already paid for that electricity by renting the cabin, my family definitely will not be back.
I do not recommend this resort to anyone, since there are many better resorts/cabins to stay at in Minnesota. But definitely do NOT stay with Mantrap Lodge if you...
Read moreOur family does a week on a lake each summer. We chose Mantrap Lodge for summer 2015. It was great. The cabins are awesome with lots of nice touches and equipment to make your stay enjoyable. On rainy days we really enjoyed the main lodge with its cozy feel, old school arcade and games as well as a selection of movies to watch. ||The best part of this place is the family that runs it and the great activities they put on from bingo to hayride to a breakfast to pizza night. It was great to have these events schedules and the family had a great time. ||I would also like to mention the beach area with stand up paddle boards, paddleboats, and a trampoline raft all...
Read moreFamily resort on beautiful lake. Stopped in to tour the resort while fishing nearby. The resort is at the top of the hill from the waterfront and had tons of amenities for the kids. A few of the cabins nearest to the lake have a partial view of the lake through the trees while other cabins would not. Lodge was really nicely kept up and owners were very pleasant. There is a beach front area with sand for kids to play and water toys. Swimming is accessible in the on-site pool or boating to a nice off shore spot. Lake is refreshingly wild with little development and great fishing. Boat traffic was minimal...
